I have a quick question on behalf of a friend. He said he had issues landing Elegy on Chariots in salvage. Do you guys have an issues and/or advice on gear to land it? I'm sorry I don't have his gearsets to show what he's got but any help would be much appreciated.

The problem tends not to be with what gear you have, but rather, what cells your team has deemed fit to provide the bard with. Unless you're doing Bhaflau Remnants and trying to kill Mad Bomber, as a bard, you're going to spend the majority of Salvage half-naked. Sure, your head/neck slot gives you a good skill buff and means you'll be able to land Elegy better, but that head/neck slot would do the team a lot more good on one of the melee.

A bard can do just fine in salvage with nothing more than magic, weapon, abilities, subjob, HP, MP, and ranged weapon. Team leaders know this, which is why BRD tends to be the last on every single piece of gear besides ranged.

If this is the case, and he's getting shafted on gear, the best thing I can suggest would be:

- Bring in a 68 gil chai to pop for CHR+2
and
- Sing the CHR song to yourself before attempting to land Elegy

And try to coerce your salvage team leader into farming you a body piece and legs/feet, at the very minimum.

I've gone BRD to almost every Salvage I've attended (except the weird times I've been asked to go BLM in ZR). Any time I've had issues landing Elegy it was because we had sh*tty cell drops and I had very little unlocked. IMO aside from instruments, getting weapon unlocked will make the biggest difference. Weapon + most gear I can land it np. With Terra Staff but little to nothng else unlocked I can land Elegy within a few casts. Without it I sometimes struggle a la Fiat Lux.

This has been consistent throughout my BRD's career from basic AH gear to fairly top notch stuff (sans Gjallar). So what gear your friend has isn't nearly as important as what he unlocks.

Sometimes, and I say only sometimes... group leaders are not aware of how much gear affects mage jobs. Especially if they are of melee bent. Ensure you let them know the key pieces you need. Weapon/Ranged and some skill gear goes a long way.

Your friend could try to land earth threnody; chariots rarely resist that even without gear, and it will help your rdm land slow 2 if they're having trouble for some reason. I probably don't need to say this, but make sure to get some elegy on asap; battlefield elegy tends to stick easier for me if the chariot is being resisty, and its much better than nothing.

Arrapago and zhayolm are the ones where the bard is most likely to have a lot of locked gear; bhaflau and silver seas should be fairly well geared by the time you get to the boss, so those are going to resist a bit more. Level 80 will also help after the update, obviously.
