When to be pullerFollow

At what level should I be expected to be the prime puller? I'm 34 right now, and when I try to pull, I ... sometimes die xD (I'm a taru).

I'm thinking 38, when I get blink from whm sub. Is blink enough to keep me alive, or do I need to wait until I get stoneskin at 60? I really don't wanna use ninja as my subjob... I don't like giving up the whm support.

I pulled at 34 without much of an issue, but I'm an Elf with more HP so I am sure it was easier for me. You might want to make sure the mob is provoked quickly to get it off of you, and since you are a Taru I would recommend bulking up on Defensive gear and food.

BRD can begin pulling effectively with much less fear of death at 39. Battlefield Elegy is your friend here. The "freeze time" after casting Elegy is virtually non-existent, especially compared to Threnodies. This allows you to get a significantly larger head start on the mob on the way back to camp, which means less hits.

If you pull from the edge of pulling range, you'll often get back to camp completely unscathed (unless the mob has enhanced movement speed). As you pull more, you'll get better at keeping max distance. Practice makes perfect and all that jazz. :P

p.s.
/whm is just fine for pulling all the way up to Greater Colibri camps, even if you don't take the time to blink/stoneskin yourself.

39 is safest as mentioned for Elegy "non-freeze". I pulled from 10-75, using Threnody from max distance, and knowing how to slow down mobs using obstacles. I did have plenty of experience pulling as RNG before I did BRD, however. You can also use Dia to pull, but you need to be careful of links, and that the party understands to engage the Red mob if a link does occur.

I would advise against pulling before you learn Battlefield Elegy.

It's not like the "OMGNEVERENDINGCHAINS" work at low levels, and people need to start realizing that fact.

So, have one of your melees pull it with a bow or something.

However, it's your choice to pull or not to pull.

It's possible to pull with Dia I believe before you get Battlefield.

I started pulling at 37 with a requiem, I believe. I switched over to Elegy at 39. I've been pulling since.

My simple ideology is subject to you having elegy and decent brd gear...

You should pull whenever you are the most skilled puller in the party.

Let's face it, leveling bard is tiedious and situational at best... ie: don't pull if you have pld needing pianissimo, a rng who needs prelude and mages and DD.... too much to handle... but if you in a simple setup and have free time might as well learn the ropes since you will be pulling FOREVER.

I'm a level 41 BRD as we speak, and have been leveling it several times a week over the last month or so. Elegy reeks of WIN for pulling because there is very little casting delay (when compared to pulling with Threnody or Requiem).

I also found pulling as /whm to be annoying and dangerous (i found a direct correlation between pulling as brd/whm at lowbie levels and dead tarutaru brd/whm's); sure the support magic was great, but I was taking a beating and wasting my support magic healing myself.

I know some ppl have no problem pulling as brd/whm from 1-75, but those people are better pullers than I am. :-P Once I hit 24, I started subbing NIN and really haven't looked back unless there was a RNG or COR or THF or some other puller in party.

Although, now with Eulegy, I might be able to go back to /whm...
