hey
lvl'ing bard atm, lvl 60 atm and i was looking at some of the options of gear for a high lvl bard.
i dont do Dynamis atm so any BRD AF2 is out of the question.
i also cant get the Yigit body atm either.
the Sha'ir Manteel of course looks a very nice piece but costs too much, same as kirin's Osode.
so i was wondering if there was any other body suggestions that would substitute these.

Errant Body is fine, and generally really cheap with all the people trying to craft HQs. Do some assaults and try to get a Yigit Body when you can.

Go camp a Minstrel's Coat, the NM is pretty much always up and unclaimed.
It's easy to get, free, and adequate for a long time.

I used Gaudy Harness and AF body until I could use Errant body. I finally wound up selling a load of gear I've saved up over the years in order to buy my sha'ir manteel. You'll do fine just using Errant body until you can get something better. Manteel and Osode, or any other high end game piece you'll end up getting over time.

Osode can be a pretty obtainable piece if you join a decent sky LS (Which is hard). Errant works just as well for debuffs, but suffers from less Def and -Stats. Either way it won't make a big difference for you :P
Sha'ir is, for all of it's usefulness, 3.5mil~+ for an extra 2% casting time over Yigit. To each his own, Sha'ir wins in prettiness.
Sha'ir also has Haste+2%, but Goliard body wins over it with Haste +4%.
The best overall for debuffing is I *think* Marduk's (Salvage piece) with +12CHR. On top of that with the whole set you get -15% casting time, beating even HQ Sha'ir. Also Refresh, so it's probably the best set for Bard, the legs are oh so sexy. :)
Anyway, since you aren't there yet, Errant will work best for you. As another option, others use minstrel's coat to use if you feel like camping it. Both Errant and Minstrel's are ugry though :3 Your choice.
Edit: I also totally forgot Rostrum pumps in conjunction with HQ Sha'ir, I think will put cast time down to -15% (The same as marduk set). Either way, have fun getting either Marduk set or HQ Sha'ir :P

My mistake. I'd probably use them then for finale then, I'll probably rebuy them later, I like trying to maximise efficiency with brd gear. But for the mean time I'll keep the inv space+1, I still prefer the skill+ on lullaby and elegy, I haven't found myself waiting on the recast enough to want them.
Like I said, personal prefference though.

Not to question your authority on the subject or which is better, but I always thought Shadow Coat was a pretty cool guy so if it is indeed better I might actually bother Einherjaring again :D

It depends on your existing build. If everyone got all the same gear around the same time and used it in the same order, then there would be some validity in comparing two pieces of gear back-to-back. But since this game doesn't play that way, and your able to find relic BRD's wearing gear from FFXI 2004 -- well...everyone's results are going to be different.
Point being, you should be looking at more than just 12CHR vs 10MACC. Can your BRD build even afford to lose the CHR? Does your BRD build really need the MACC for what you do?
12 CHR is pretty large, and deciding where to make it up (if you need to) can actually make you worse off than before. Should you go back to using CHR rings? What about using Jesters+1 instead of Astute? However, if you happen to be one of those over CHR'ed BRD's that's just been unlucky with getting other gear and you happen to land one of these nifty +10 MACC pieces -- Then it might actually be a good piece to wear for a while.
As far as testing -- Not much testing has been done on MACC for BRD, even less has been done on Shadow Coat. To my knowledge, no tests have been done on Marduk Jubbah vs Shadow Coat.

Thanks for answering. In my own situation Marduks will be better. I have enough strait MagAcc for myself, and Marduks comes with refresh and the rest of the set. I am lacking a few pieces of CHR, really hoping to replace AF legs with Marduk's pretty soon.

For a long time (55-72) I use cobra unit stuff...I never had a problem with it either. Cobra unit set gives you a good amount mp (i think 10mp per piece which is good for /whm). Also It gives you 6 CHR and alittle evasion. THe really only useful pieces of af are hands and legs which I use as soon as I got them. Jester+1 is a very good piece and not too expensive, +10 CHR is very nice. Gleemans belt is inexpensive and gives 6 CHR and 8acc. I used +3 CHR rings since lvl 36 and melody earrings which is nice for chr and evasion. (+1 version if you can). DOn't forget the right staffs (earth, light) and a staff strap for extra chr and mp. I really never had a problem debuffing mobs and sleeping. Right now im trying to get some of the higher lvl pieces.
