No instrument / songs on enemiesFollow

Everyone knows by now that if you are not using an instrument, you cannot cast two spells on a given party member at a time. What I want to know is this: is this also true for spells vs. enemies? If I am not using an instrument, will a Threnody overwrite a Requiem, so that there can only be one song on the enemy at a time?

I ask this because I'm planning to sub bard, and won't be able to use an instrument. For a discussion on why bards don't suck as subs, see the thread entitled "BRD as a Sub??"
