I'm not one but Iplan on being one :) Still a thief for now, ut I can't wait till I can be a bard. 19more levels to go ~sigh~

and tarutaru warriors aren't effective but that doesn't take anything away from gameplay. Just makes it more challenging. Play whatever you like honestly your most effective isn't always that much more effective. your going to help regardless. =)

Elvaan make insanely great white mages.

Often the hume and Elvaan are better than a tarutaru

Becuase of the fact that white mages cause hate and they do take damage a certain amount of hit points are necessary. So in turn you want hitpoints which elvaan and hume have. You can simply place MP bonus items on to enhance your mp .. Magna items are great +15 - 30 average .. i am lvl 34 Hume with around 360 mana
Elvaan have higher mind than a tarutaru does so they get better curative and enhancment times. Granted a tarutaru can also place HP + items on to contradict this, but you don't get the natural versatility of a Hume and Elvaan's ability to change class and be slightly more successful

In the last post, someone says that bards pull alot of hate. I don't exactly see how this is true, considering that most bards just kind of sit back, if your sub is whm, you gain a little hate, but this is mostly when there is an emergency, in which case someone will have more hate than you. I can see some debuff songs causing hate, but most of the time you should wait a little into combat for a warrior to provoke them, which isnt a problem. most warriors use provoke simply to lure the monster to them. I also agree that race should not decide your class, in the long run, with bard as your main class, it won't really matter too much at all. There are always items out there to help you, and parties will still want you just based on the fact that your a bard. Just do your thing as long as you are happy.

Bards job is also to do crowd control by using Sleep and AE Sleep to stop monsters. Black Mage & Red Mage sleep are resisted quite often.

Doing this kind of job often gets a monster on you if it resists the Sleep or just wakes up.

Some people even say Galka is the best bard for some HNM fights because the Bard takes so much punishment from trying to Sleep all the mosnters.

Those 7 points in CHR might make a difference though, since with the same equipment a Hume, Elvaan, or Taru bard will still have 7 more points in CHR. Certain BCNM require mass AE Lullaby, and without the high CHR the song can get resisted quite easily. A very well balance PT from my linkshell was laid to waste by a BCNM because their Bard's lullaby simply was not working due to his lack of equipment. A Mithran would quite possibly not be able to make up that difference, even with the best equipment.

That being said, I think any race can do any job well for most regular-play situations. I've even seen a Galka WHM do just fine in levelling parties in Qufim. And Bards are in such short supply, you'll probably be able to find a group no matter what your race is :)

Finding a party as a bard will be a piece of cake no matter what race you are. You may not be as perfect as a Taru, but you will still have people knocking down your door.

I L-O-V-E playing a Mithra! And I cannot wait to get bard status :D woooot

I'm now leveling my Mithra as a WHM so I can sub both thief and WHM with the bard. And while my mp is lower than a Taru's would be. At level 6, I'm already getting messages to join parties. Barding will be no different.

id just like to add in, the survivablity of a bard to your group is a huge factor also. what good is a bard if hes dead...

I just became a mithra bard and I think it's great! The dilemna I've been facing now is what will my subjob be! With a warrior I get higher strength so I can actually engage enemies. As a monk I'd get higher HP/Vit but lower str. I am shying away from a whm because obviously a taru2 would be better at that with all that mana.. I'm trying to play to the strengths of a mithra. In addition.. If I subbed pld, then by the ending a whm will have double the MP, but, I'll be able to survive much easier. So, that is my question; what does everyone think about a mithra bard/pld? Because I don't think whm is that viable since I'll have so much lower MP..
