Melee? :: World of Warcraft

I'm an EQ player and planning to switch over to FFXI, I've been waiting a few years for it to finally come out. When looking for a good job I came across a bard, and was wondering if they serve as melee as well. Like fight and twist and stuff or are they not really that active offensive wise? Thanks for any replies.

Bards are as good in melee as any Red Mage is really. You can solo your first 10 levels with a bard alot easier than a WM or a BM but the role of a bard is support. If you know how to use your songs correctly and when you will be loved by groups and level up really fast. Its a fun class to play thats for sure but not much damage output period.

Bards are definately not as good in melee as Red Mages. Bards really don't have the armor or Hit Points to stand up to much aggression, and a grouping should be done at as early a level as possible.
