They are all T (as far as I have seen so far) With most I had no trouble charming with no charm gear on. The butterflys are charm resistant.

The grasshoppers that are in pretty much every zone are awesome (SAM PETS)

Sic with these pets every 2 minutes is a drag though.

Ok, quick rundown... BST was my first lvl 75 job back in the day. Quit game for 5ish years. Came back in December and was told "Charm is dead, jug pets rule now." Sold all my CHR gear/light staff etc. as a result. I never had BST relic, only BST AF (+Charm gear wasn't overly useful in 2008...). Now the expansion hits and it looks like Charmed pets are viable again. I'm not sure what gear I should be after to make this an option for my BST.

tl;dr: Would anyone be willing to give me a quick rundown on a useful and not-too-hard-to-obtain set that will allow me to function in Adoulin now that Charming is viable again?

Also- Will my -PDT set work for a Charmed pet?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think charming is all that useful now anyway. All the charmable monsters in reives are not charmable, and you can't leave to get more because the boundaries are tiny. And from Familiaring the VT monsters they did about the same damage as our jugs, except you can only have them sic every 2 minutes and it's a random move. And with all the enemies being higher level than you you really need snarl if you want to do anything to the enemy without pulling hate, which the charmed pets don't have.

Unless you want to kill the normal monsters for some reason I don't see much point. And between abyssea and the fact that the pets are cutting your exp from being higher level than you, I don't see a real reason to do that, yet.

Mellowy is awesome, now.

I'm sorry. My hoovercraft is full of Summoners. As soon as I claim a thread, they just flood out and cover the whole place. Slippery suckers, those Summoners.

I could see charmed pets being useful for farming items solo from mobs since the mobs are pretty rough otherwise (save pet food jug costs) but unless there is something I am missing, I am not sure charming is super useful yet otherwise. Snarl is pretty necessary with the enemity changes and the smaller damage our pets are doing. Random Sic is not very great (oops, whirl claws... Hello 3 mobs on us)

As for a set, I only happened to have a couple engel rings and my chatoyant stave, so nothing particularly fancy or intense. It is easy to get the initial charm but it wears pretty quick without charm duration gear.

Thanks for the replies- I ended up digging out my original BST AF from what... 2005? Then I bought an Apollo's staff for 70k. Then I went and charmed a grasshopper- and it was fun as hell. Killed 8 Belaboring Wasps and completed a quest and was quite pleased with myself and the grasshopper. Even if it turns out not to be super powerful, it is extremely fun to just do what we were originally designed to do. However, I agree with the above poster in that the lack of Snarl severely limits its viability. Can't put a price on fun and nostalgia though :)

If you want a shot at some gil while you're **** about on BST (like I'm doing atm) then the black mandies just south of the Yahse Hunting Grounds Waypoint drop humus worth 50k each on my server, and two Umbril pop at night which drop ooze worth 300k.
