You might have just had bad luck on the pet, I don't know since I faced a rabbit and had no problems at all. It also sounds like you engaged too soon.
Send in your pet, allow it to establish hate both on Maat and on his pet. Bring pet food and dawn mulsum. I'd use familiar from the start if you are going to use it for the extra HP. I'm not aware of any advantage to holding familiar till later.
-enter battlefield
-call pet
-use any buff items you have/want
-send pet in, siccing it on Maat's pet
-wait bit for pet to get hate on both targets, use pet food if pet's HP down low enough for it
-come in cautiously, and begin to engage Maat
-if you get any hate at all snarl, and if necessary switch targets or pull back - I know above you said you did, but did you do it from a macro that maybe didn't go off? Because snarl gives your enemity to your pet. The only way snarl wouldn't work is if you didn't actually hit it, or if you didn't have active hate on one of the targets.
What I mean by active hate is snarl will not work on anything you've aggroed without actually using an offensive action on. So you need to actually hit a target or debuff it etc in order for snarl to work.
You don't need a blink band or opo-opo necklace. Pet food and mulsum are way more important. I wouldn't bother with heal pots either. I used a TP wing, sent my pet in to attack other pet, ran in, rampaged Maat, snarled, then just kept wailing on Maat. Maybe healed my pet once.
Sorry for the late reply, been away on a business trip and just got back.
Well I got the inspiration of the fight from various youtube videos I've been watching and half of them had the same tactics as I were intending to use but they didn't take as much dmg as I did when they engaged their pets.
The tactics were Call pet and buff up -> send pet on maat -> engage maat's pet and kill it (use familiar before maat's pet dies) -> heal up with hi-potions -> engage maat and if you have tp do rampage -> use icarus wing + rampage again -> snarl -> then build up tp til you can finish him with a third rampage if you need. Heal the pet with reward.
But your tactic seems much more reliable. But I think I'll at least get an icarus wing to use for rampage.
My snarl did work because it made the pet turn and started hitting my pet but as soon as I started to heal the pet turned and killed me. Really embarrassing fight because it ended really quick. >_<
I just need to get a new testimony now. I've read that the outpost in Cape Teriggan is the best spot. I got mine on the third giga in upper delfkut but it's a high risk due to the link and aggro.
Thanks for the tips!
