Are bst able to handle the turtle and wyrm? I know Horn's of War is easily soloable. I've read a while back that they can solo Wyrm too but I can't find that info anywhere. Can anyone give me some insight? Thanks much.

The wyrm kinda presents a problem in its 66-33% health phase, because it goes airborne at that point, rendering it immune to most melee attacks, and I'm pretty sure even pets that "fly" still aren't able to hit it. I'm not sure if BST has an easy way around it, but if you find anything and want to test it out, I recommend using Cuelebre in Abyssea Tahrongi as a test subject rather than your KS99 orbs. Cuelebre is a Ouryu clone that's constantly in the air, and he is only vulnerable to melee attacks when he has Mighty Strikes active. Note that Cuelebre's attacks consist entirely of earth damage, whereas the KS99 wyrm's airborne attacks will be almost entirely fire damage, with the exception of Hurricane Wing.

As for the turtle, I'm not sure if a single BST has enough power to punch through its in-shell regen phases. I would wager that they would not, but I'm not going to say that with 100% certainty. There is likely to be a certain number of BSTs that could pull off this fight without a hitch, but I've no clue as to what that number would be... I'm just betting that the number is probably higher than 1, unfortunately.

I'm certain that some of the Ready abilities (Falcorr's Choke Breath, etc) would be able to do damage in the air, but you'd likely not be able to do enough damage in the allotted time while waiting on the recast time for Sic/Ready.

Recast time wouldn't even be an issue; pet TP gain rate would be. Since, y'know, it wouldn't be landing any melee hits.

I just wanted to say that Bst has an excellent cure for some flying mobs/bugs.
I have managed several times now to suprise the party I was with, when after Kukulkan ki, [Arimaspi] & they were unable to do anything when it took to the air I stepped forwards & proceeded to use Mistral Axe to great effect !
Last time in a party with 2 other Bsts by using Mistral we soon had it down & it popping Lesser Arimaspi.
I've also used it with success against other flying mobs, however I have to be honest never against the Themis Orb nm, still, worth a try eh ?
Good luck & I wish you well, please let us know how you do !
Jon

That's great and all, but please tell us how you're gonna get the TP to do all those Mistral Axes in this KS99 fight, which is outside of Abyssea, meaning no regain atmas or no other mobs to hit for TP.

Only way I could see it happening is with opo necklace, but you're gonna need a whole LOT of sleeping potions to get off enough WS. I don't think there's even enough time allotted in the fight for that tactic to work. Can only sleep up a WS every 2 minutes, so... yeahhhh

OK, so maybe you can get a ws off with 3 sleep potions instead of 4 (every 1.5 minutes, in other words)

Still not sure if enough, though

Pretty sure it won't be enough

I tried several times to solo the wyrm, but was not able to. I ended up going in with a SMN and a PUP. The slug pet tanks him beautifully, while the other two do their thing when its in the air. Just have to watch the draw in, but otherwise easy.

I'd be interested in anyone's turtle experience, as this is the only item I'm missing for my black belt. I was under the impression that I wouldn't be able to do enough damage solo to overcome its regen.

Thanks for the input guys. I tried doing him with BST x2 and 1 BLM. The blms nukes alone were not enough to bring him down. Im pretty sure if we had another nuke it'd be fine.

I would think this strategy is the same for the turtle.

Question though: These guys do some major damage with a massive range. Sometimes I don't even see the animation and just see my HP drop. Does having my pet fight them on the side help? Meaning have the enemy face the side. The biggest problem was having the blm stay alive. I noticed everytime I walked close it would do some crazy damage. I don't even have enough time to figure out what move it's doing. Anyway GG tanked both behemoth and fafnir like a champ, and I'm so grateful "Reward" works from such a long range lol

I know the wyrm has a conal breath attack that can hurt, but the few times I tried turning its mouth away from the entrance I wasn't successful. I died once from being too close to him while trying to get the slug off to the side, as the arena isn't that large. The other time, I got the slug to the side, however the wyrm never turned. He kept hitting the slug, but remained pointed towards the entrance.

The other attacks it does are mostly 30' AOE attacks, which you can't really defend against aside from being far enough away.

Fynlar,
You are quite right & I apologise for sounding like a spoilt brat as I crowed about how utterly marvellous I was at discovering Mistral Axe v Arimaspi like I'm the only player who has ever done it or with any regard to the op . . .
I am usually far more self- effacing so don't know what made me pipe-up but quite rightly this technique won't work in KS99, I really hope you eventually find a way !
Good luck !
Jon

Don't really think there is really much strategy to it other than "don't get killed by Meteor"

Unlike the wyrm and turtle, the behemoth has no real way to prevent it from getting an ***-whupping, so I would think any pet with enough heals can take it down eventually. Maybe the adamantoise pet will resist Meteor?

With some basic pet defense gear, slug tanks him nicely. Send it in, stand outside the arena while he fights, and drop some pet food on him when he gets low. I don't recall needing all that much pet food, but its been a month or two since I've done it.
