Seriously considering coming back.

I've run the series of MMOs out there and none compare to FFXI...or at least BST.

I quit playing BST soon after the 12-5-05 nerf and I've seen/heard that the xp has changed for grouping/jugs. Has BST become watered down? Is it still worth playing?

It has changed. I don't know about it being "watered down".

Is the 12-5-05 patch the MPK nerf? If that was enough to make you quite the game, I don't know what to tell you. I'm guessing that you will probably be utterly horrified at the current state of BST. After the initial shock of how much things has changed wears off, who knows, you might like the way the game is now. But I wouldn't bet on it.
Lyonheart, like Eorzia, will be reborn in FFXIV!

BST and DRG were a big reason for my return (the other being RIFT's look reminded me of FFXI, so after a month of playing RIFT my FFXI itch was major).
I don't remember what Nerf was on that date, was that the Pet one everyone freaked out about and then most found out it wasn't that bad and you just had to rethink/go to different camps? AKA the MPK Nerf?

BST still seems like a very strong job if played right. It also seems to be the new popular job for some reason? IE: Everyone seems to have it leveled. I'm part of a LS that is made up of mostly returned players and I good portion of them has leveled or is level BST.

Changes that I don't know if you knew about (because I'm pretty sure they came after I quit back in 07):
-Pets no longer give you and EXP cut as long as they check EM or lower.
-When using a jug pet, you can now select the TP Move it does.
-There has been a change to EXP. Mobs across the board give about double of what they use to (an Easy mob can give around 100 or more EXP).
-There is a new system to level with. It is pretty much a Kill X, Y Times quest. Most people seem to do this. It can get you to end game in Days if you have the free time to waste.

BST is going to be my next 90. I still have fun with it. You also quickly learn who use to play BST back in the day and who are people who jumped on some band wagon I still don't get. So your knowledge of the job can help you out if you were to return.

The changes to BST are not why I left the game. After fully meriting BST, I capped SAM, RDM, PLD, WHM and BRD. Followed my gf and other LS members to WoW zzzzzz and many other p2p and f2p games. Nothing has the community that ffxi has/d. I had high hopes for XIV, but...

Sandinmygum, thank you for your response.

Don't get me wrong no one hates not having charm in abyessa more then me but bst is not weak at all the lvl 76+ jugs are a 100 times stronger then the old jugs and we can heal our pets great now.

Major Changes to BST-
Besides everything stated above, which covers mainly the EXP portion
-BST do not use charm anymore upon reaching level 76, and probably not any any level tbh
-Instead of the multiple pet swapping throughout an entire fight, its much more static pet wise. It is not uncommon for a single pet to survive an entire solo NM fight
-Jug have had a massive massive power boost. Conservatively speaking, the new jugs strength would be about a T-VT strength charm mob. Jugs also have increased HP, with most averaging about 3k+
-Gear wise, it's possible now to gear for your pet. The new Trial of the Magians allows you to obtain axes which greatly greatly modify your pet (pet physical damage taken -20%, pet magic defense bonus +40, pet evasion +40 *when dual wielding). Also, the rewards for "A Crystaline Prophecy" "A Moogle Kupo de'tat" and "A Shantotto Ascension" are actually pretty stilted towards pet enhancements.
-Jug pets can now have "unique" attributes or quirks. For example, the Rabbit jug LuckyLulush can Curaga2 the entire party and Ladybug has Treasure Hunter

With these enhacements, the things usually left out to BST are now much more possible. Sea + Sky + Limbus + Dynamis are all more accessible, as well as Battlefields and Missions.

BST can easily duo/trio Vrtra now, if that tells you anything
