I was peeking at the PUP forums. Someone was testing versus 1000 needles and their Stormwaker puppet took 476 damage. So, it sounds like our pets get a ~4.8% damage mitigation boost. Any 78+ Beastmasters care to go play with cactuars to confirm we have the same benefit? I'm still 34k exp away.

It's not a lot, but I'll take it. We are starting to rack up a good number of defensive pet gears. I am wondering how far SE is going to let us take the -% p:pdt axes; they're great.

edit: spelling

First I was Smiley: jawdrop

...then I realized the PUP took 500DMG meaning the puppet only mitigated 24 DMG not 524.

So now I am Smiley: frown

Me too. If it was a BST testing, we'd just let the pet eat the whole thing.

Pet only is a good idea, less chance of rounding. I'll try it w/-pdt gear and without when I hit 78. If someone else beats me to it, please post!

Well it wasn't a suggestion, but cool.

Here's hoping for another every 10 levels.

lvl 80bst/40dnc w/ capped BA and monster gloves, pet: NurseryNazuna, taking 953 from 1000 needles every time. and on a side note also 953=20~21% of her HP so this just must be about 5k hp jug pet at lvl 80

Wearing -22% damage reduction: 742 damage. Stout Servant reduces about 3.8% in this instance.

Based on this and Endoq's test, I am going to assume that Pet: -%DmgTkn gear is applied separate from Stout Servant.

IE:

ActualDMG = ( ( IncomingDMG * ( 1 - PDTGear ) ) * ( 1 - Stout Servant ) )

or

ActualDMG = ( ( IncomingDMG * ( 1 - Stout Servant ) ) * ( 1 - PDTGear ) )

Just a rough guess. The bottom line is, the more you buff your pet in regards to damage reduction, the less Stout Servant performs. Still, I'll take any buff SE wants to give us. =/

Please be more tiers. Making just one level makes no sense, since they simply could have raised the stats of the pets by 5% if that was their aim. Surely SE means to add at least one more tier?

Well PUP gets this trait too and I think we just got it as "wtf might as well" token gesture.

That would be the case if Stout Servant only affects jug pets. But doesn't it also affect charmed pets? You wouldn't want the mob you're fighting to also have that -PDT boost.

Does it affect charmed pets? That sounds like a lot of work from a coding perspective. And since PUP gets it, and everything we've gotten in years is jug only, sounds like it's BST's jug pets.

If I get a chance this afternoon - anyone got an idea of how to test this... I have a 76 BST mule and my main is 78 BST so I can get a fairly easy comparison of with/without the job trait. If someone tells me what exactly they want doing and it's not gonna cost me a fortune in jugs I can go pick on some cactuars or something.

Just do some charmed pets vs cactuars. Quicksand or Altepa should work. When 1k needles triggers, note the damage your pet takes.

At the moment I've got a non-trait carrie and a trait carrie parked letting a cactuar TP up off them.... unfortunately our prickly friends are being somewhat reticent with the needlework this afternoon.

Ok from a quick screwing around in Altepa...
When muppet hume was in range as well (I was trying to heel/stay Carrie in the right place) 333(me)/333(Lusien's Carrie - 76 BST)/317(Cesaria's Carrie - 78 BST)
Straight split 1k needles - Cesaria's Carrie (has job trait at lvl 78) 476/Lusien's Carrie (no job trait as he's 76) 500 damage

Husband who's mathematically minded says that's just a smidgen under 5% damage reduction. Will muck around more with it later but neither character had any pet damage down gear equipped, I called Carrie without AF2 hands on both chars, the only difference merit wise is I have BST affinity merited a couple of levels on Ces.

Basically I set Carrie on a cactuar, let it knock it to under 20%, heel/stay/snarled it and heeled both Carries to be the only ones in range and then fed TP via dia spam/snarling hate off.

Hope that helps someone.

Now I am in a Stout Mood... Rogue Shakesphere sounds good right about now or maybe a nice Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing.

Any 78 BSTs care to run the test with a charmed pet, instead of a jug pet? I have no reason to believe Stout Servant doesn't affect charmed pets. But I can see how others would assume the opposite and would want confirmation before they believe otherwise.

if you haven't picked up any already, don't miss the 1st sierra nevada 30th anniversary beer fritz and ken's stout. it's silky and roasty. not to be confused with the similarly labeled maibock that was just released (not bad), or the barleywine that's coming soon (i'm interested).
