summoning pet worthwhile???Follow

I am a level 23 beastmaster, and made 72 jugs of carrot broth so i can summon rabbits. my stratagy up to this point has been to charm a "descent" or "even" beast to use as my pet, and go after "even" or "tough" enemies accordingly. usually the enemy will be left with less than 15% hp at the end of the fight, so it is easy to finish off and chain. BUT, when i hit level 23 i figured "awsome now i can summon pets and chain even more", but the pet i summond got Completely and utterly annialated by an even enemy. this leads me to believe they are useless. is this true?

Um...maybe it deals with the circle of life craps. my friend sesshoumaru says those types of broths are lv23 since the summon is at lv23. I duno if thats good at chaining. you'd have to wait 5 mins for another one to summon ;)
