In my opinion, It depends on what im looking for, If im looking for EXP, then id say i like partying, but if i was looking for items, id say solo, just depends on the situation in my opinion.

i like soloing better, sure when u find a good party exp can just build up like crazy but finding a good party can be impossible sometimes. In the time it takes u to find a good party u could have soloed half way to ur next lvl. Plus I like that I'm force to explore to find the best mobs to solo, it lets u enjoy the game more.

If you die, you screwed up. There's really no human error to worry about than your own.

You can get 200 exp a kill for VT mobs soloing (if your pet doesn't die) or 60-70 exp a kill for VT mobs in a party. You can probably chain the VT mobs to get up to 105 exp each, but the majority of parties are mediocre at best and run out of steam at the first chain. Plus, the WHMs and BLMs take longer to heal than a BST/WHM ever has to, and the BST has less downtime whether he catfights equal cons while he rests or not.

You can't really trust my numbers here, because they didn't totally add up when I checked the exp division charts. I'm going by what I saw, though.

Either way, soloing is just more favorable to me because I never have to deal with stupidity. (Would you believe one of my parties was slaughtered because a RDM/WHM didn't know Diaga was an AOE spell?)

If you wanna have the solo option though, you don't HAVE to be BST. I've seen successful WAR/WHM, PLD/WHM, and SMN/WHM solo past level 25, which is nothing to laugh at.

In my opinion, You should solo always if you can. Its the best way to learn how to play BST correctly. If you party with other BST's fine. But being in a normal party kind of spoils you and makes you rusty. Its the same as power leveling, you stop doing what your job is meant for and just hit things. Then one day when you decide its time to solo, you're lost.

I also agree solo is prob better exp then getting in random party. Also like mentioned above soloin is the place to learn how to play your class properly.

A good party though will always be better exp even if you are taking the 30% penalty with a familiar.

What suck tho is bad parties, people leavin, finding whm and other bs downtime stuff like that.

I usually solo unless I get into a planned friend party or someone I know calls me into a party, which happens often cause BST who will use Familiar is by far the strongest party member. WhM is still the most essesential but BST+Familiar is the strongest.

It does suck to be getting 130-150 exp while rest of party is getting 180-200+ but steady 130-150 chains up to #5 is better then solo. Actually it is almost like a ghetto powerlevelin for party.

Got to fence ride here. I'd say both.

Solo has it's obvious advantages especially when things are slow or your Linkshell members are off doing their own thing. When I go farming it rocks as a Bst/Thf as I can run around, charm a mob have it attack something while I slaughter everything easy to dc on the map. Great way to make gil and a great way to get guild items. But it gets old.

I think FFXI is very team oriented which I enjoy. Does it suck when you get into a crappy group? Hellz yeah. It's just like working with a bunch of ******** in real life. You always have a choice though. You can try to train the team or you can run off and find another group or go solo. I usually try to help people figure out the best way to work a group. Some of the most fun I've had playing have been in what originally was considered a "crappy" group. I leveled with a group in Battalia that consisted of 4 thieves and 2 black mages. Hard? Yep, but it was also a ton of fun and I learned a lot about how to use a thief to it's full potential.

Bst have so much to offer a team that it's a shame to have them run lonely in the wilderness. You can do more damage than a War or Pld and you have much better defense than any Drk, Thf, or anyone else. Best of all is when things don't go right. If you don't have something charmed and your fighting a beast that ends up being too much for the group, charm it and run. Or charm another beast and have them engage the enemy. You go from being the "loner" to the hero real quick.

You know what will never happen but I would LOVE to see? A whole team of Beastmasters/Whm... That would be 12 fighters! Could anything stop this group?? You could go into an area like Quifm and wipe it clean. The Unyielding Power!! Muwhahahahahaha!

i solo'd straight up to 30..not one party as bst...went about 3x faster then lvling my war ^^

for me solo is I have a very limited time to play..and often have to leave abruptly..this is why I love bst...the ability to just jump in and start lvling..and jump out and in again is amazing
