Hey all, I'd like your input on this. I've been seriously thinking of retaking up RNG. Firstly however, I'll give a time span of when I last played RNG. My RNG is lvl 57, I played slightly after they gimped RNGs from being the best DD years ago but before Aht Uhrgan. I stopped at 57 because was trying to get an E bow and in total through the years i went like 0/14 and never got the damn thing.
My idea for what I'd like rng for is for lowman, for example. A nin/dnc tanking a mob that likes to spam aoes and me sitting back away from aoe range just doing dps on it through ranged attacks. I read on the other threads that rng may not be able to keep up competitively with other DDs but its still fun for those who play it. I'd like you guys to address RNG's utility in the current metagame, particularly low man situations (2-6 ppl). Thanks :)

Problem with low man in Abyssea at least is that RNG can't proc red or yellow weaknesses natively. It's better to have a NIN/DNC and BLM than a NIN/DNC and RNG. Both can damage from outside AoE but the BLM can proc Yellow. Throw a War in there and you have a ton of red proc's as well.
With Aby, its not just about killing the NM, its about getting the drops (arguably that's what all of FFXI is about). And RNG is limited to being able to proc some blue weaknesses, which are rarely the goal of most groups. People want AF3 +1 and +2 items and that's largely yellow weakness.
I've not played RNG in my LS in months. And its not that I even have great Aby jobs (COR, RDM, BLU, RNG). My group will ask for any of the other three as they are felt to be more helpful.

RNG is still great at what RNG does, the problem is what RNG does doesn't matter in abyssea (lowman at least).
