Approaching 60 need some input...Follow

#1 Mar 07 2010 at 2:58 AM Rating: Good
I am making my way quickly through the 50s and there are a lot of new equip options becoming available to me finally :D I have a few questions, mostly equip related and I would really appreciate any input from you old-school RNG's. Most everything is in reference to TOAU pts, that's all I'm concerned with atm.

1) From what I have read since I started RNG it has always seemed that RACC > ALL, a lot of suggestions were to use Fire/Vulcan staff when it becomes available. The +10RATK looks great, but I'd be losing +21RACC from Hawkers, that seems like a pretty big number.. (this is of course /NIN as I have not used any other sub with RNG yet) So should I go with more RATK and use RACC food? Or is it ok to just stick w/Hawkers until Trailer's/Fransisca?

2) WS gear swaps; from what I've read STR is the main modifier in RNG WS, so I should basically swap in +STR gear until I find something I can live with right? Any other input, or anything I may have overlooked pertaining to please tell^^

3) Food; I know as THF I can gear for ATK and eat sushi or I can gear for ACC and eat meat, is is similar for RNG or should I just stick to the Pot stuff and keep a well balanced RACC/RATK setup? What are my options as more gear becomes available?

I'm sorry if I'm being bothersome, but I have scoured these forums and these are a few things I was unclear of, a lot of the info may be outdated as well with all the new foods/equips >.>

Thanks in advance for your reply.

1. Racc knives and Vulcan's/Fire staff are options. There are situations where one is better than the other. I can pretty much say every time you can use Vulcan's/Fire staff is when you eat sushi. And every time you can eat ratk food is when you can attain good hit-rate with racc equip (that including racc knives). Pot-au-feu and axes are the middle ground between those 2 extremes.

2. Don't bother to do it before you hit 75. There's so few options you can do prior to that. The gear options will start shows up from early Lv70

3. Yes, as explained in 1. You could see some gear options in the sticky by Cyth.

I've never understood this concept for RNG personally. Since, unlike most melee, our go-to WS is less accurate than our normal attacks at 100 TP, there seems to be no rationale for swapping out RACC for RATT/STR on Slug/Sidewinder. If you can do it and hit at acc cap, then you were using too much RACC gear for TP anyways.

My swap outs are pretty simple: keep all the RACC I needed to hit accurately and swap out any store TP for STR. Switching RACC that you already needed for STR makes little sense. If anything one should swap in more RACC for slug/sidewinder over normal ranged attacks.

I'm still waiting on proof of this mythical -40racc on slugwinder.

Admittedly I don't know the figures for the acc down aspect of slugwinder, but I'm very sure its less accurate than a regular shot. If you are just at 90-95% ranged accuracy, there is no way you will hit 90-95% of slugs at 100tp in the same gear. Whether its 40 Racc down or 10 racc down or even 80 racc down, it doesn't really matter. You still need more RACC to hit it unless you are geared well above cap on your regular shots. In that case, take off some of that RACC for TP and put in more STR, RATT or store TP.

Another scenario for subbing in STR for Sidewinder is when unlimited shot is up and you have a PPA. Since you are getting a good load of RACC from that arrow, you can take out some RACC in gear.

I really would like to know though lol, no one seems to know where the # came from or really much about.

Merits/Breeze/AMKD +wsacc/pot + minimal gear acc I don't ever really see a problem.

True. But in that case the only thing you'd need to swap from TP to WS is the sea gorget. Likely your ranged TP is capped for accuracy if you have merits, pot au feu, MKD hat, CFG or S. Kote. So then you can stack RATT/STR/Store TP in all the other slots for TP as well and gain more DoT.

Guys, you're putting the cart before the horse. The OP is approaching 60, not 75 where all that gear comes in to play.

To the OP, VZX and Dart are right on the money with their first replies. Don't go swapping in a lot of STR gear at level 60 for slugwinder, as you likely can't afford to lose all that R Acc yet. Unless, as he pointed out, you are over the R Acc cap in regular gear. Or, if you're using a PPA with Unlimited Shot.

And unfortunately, there's no way to know if you're at the Acc/R Acc cap except to parse. Then you gain skill, lower the level correction factor, move to a different camp then start all over again. At least with level sync, you'll be able to tell your R Acc in different gear set-ups at the same camp for a while...

And no, skipping food for 2 mobs, then determining your R Acc off of that is not an indicator of your R Acc. Unless you like low sample sizes, that is.
