Ranged Attack?Follow

Ok so last night im in a party at 54 killing some colibris, standing in my "blah blah pummels the colibri" zone. I look at my dmg per shot and its amazingly consistent.

I start missing some shots and realize i have my rangers necklace on and not my pcc. so i put my pcc on and continue.

hmmm, thats odd. i just took off 5ratt and i still hit for the same amount every time. i'm wearing my AF hat and the lev 50 JSE body so i decide to take that off as well and see what happens.

ok, wtf. i just took off 17ratt and nothing happened to my DoT. i put all my ratt gear back on and continue. so the level sync guy hits 55. low and behold, im now a level higher and have 5 more ratt from skill:

someone help me make sense of this. from my findings a level 55 rng that has +22-23 more ratt than a level 54 rng, will hit for the exact same amount. ????


btw i dont have an e/vbow so i was using war bow+1. so base dmg didnt change from 54 -> 55.

Ranged attack is compared to the mob's defence to determine the pDIF factor, which is then multiplied by the base damage of weapon (and arrow) to determine the damage done to the mob. The way that pDIF works, is that it caps at an upper limit. For RAtt, that value is 3. So, if your Ratt is 3 times higher than the mob's defence, no amount of additional RAtt will add any to the damage.

A clue that you are at the cap is the numbers. pDIF creates a spread of values. If you are hitting for exactly the same amount each time, you are at (or above) the cap.

but that is where it gets confusing. it was level 54-55. i wasnt eating attack food and had no outside buffs. im 99% sure they didn't check as low defense either.

When your corrected attack Ratio (your RATK / mob DEF - level correction) is between 0.9 and 1.1, your pDIF (randomized attack multiplier) is set to an upper and lower bound of 1, meaning that you hit for the same damage every time.

While it is true that you will hit for the same damage every time when your RATK is capped, there's no way that a LV54 RNG with capped RATK is hitting a bird for 121 damage.

I'm definitely sure ranged attack didn't have pew as sound effects. Or it has been changed now ?

I for one would welcome such an effect, and would urge SE to move the Bell chime development team onto the "pew" sound effect project asap.

what food did you eat? i think because you ate sushi thats why the damage is consistant?

Correct. There is a range between 0.9 and 1.1 where pdif is static at 1. You must be at that point. This implies that you could break through the 1.1 range where you'd again start to see a spread of values (add more RAtt).

.9 to 1.1 is a very wide range (20%). If you ate meat, you'd likely break through the top.
