Eurytos' Bow has reached the 5-6Mil range on my server now, and I am disgusted. EBow is a great item but there's no reason it should be this high. 2Mil or make VBow 100% drop or closer to 50% drop. People are going 0/12 on the NM. With endgame events and IRL, farming Vbow has become almost impossible to do considering the uneven and unstable pop time window.

People are stupid paying that much for a weapon that's not always our best choice and has less versatility.

We've all been there, suck it up.

Seems to me like the smart thing to do would be to go BCNM for it...

If you've got spare assault tags I recommend farming floor 40 boss in Nyzul Isle repeatedly with a focus on finding Eastern Shadow. I got my bow from floor 40 runs and he seemed to pop up at least once (sometimes twice) every 3 runs we did. My group is probably around 1/15 on appraising the item properly, but I know two other nyzul statics who have appraised it and none of us have spammed 40 a whole lot over the course of my 2 years doing it. Consider the drop rate on the actual NM appears to be about 10% and going 1/25+ in Nyzul doesn't even seem that bad.

Things like this have a tendency to **** you over when you actually want something out of it. For example we've gotten 8 askar korazins (switching some members in and out) 4 denali jackets and have yet to see a goliard saio out of floor 80... and we've done floor 80 around 100 times now. Of course to complete the original wish lists for my static members we need this one Goliard body to drop. All bad luck aside, at least with focusing on something in nyzul you have potential to get other nice stuff. Western Shadow and Valkurm Emperor can also pop in the floors you'd need to do as well as any potential floor 40 boss drops and weapons. If you waste your time camping the NM and get nothing you just lost all of that time for nothing.

The BCNM seems like a decent option, but the drop rate is horrifically low and most people don't have the seals in reserve to spam it enough to boost their chances. There are some other decent money making drops in the Brothers BCNM though so it could be worth your time as well anyway.

You could augment a Fay Gendawa from the Succor to the Sidhe quest and make a bow better than ebow. Thats what I did.

Because its 540 delay, I got a 5-hit build with less gear than needed for ebow and my gendawa has +5% ws dmg. So far, every ranger I've played with that has ebow does less dmg than me. Its very very noticable on sidewinder. Consitantly doing 100-200 more dmg on sidewinder against equally geared rngs. More than that against rngs with sub-par gear.

I don't really have any sympathy either for people who insist on camping the drop when they could have farmed and made enough to buy the drop 5-10 times over, so... guess it works both ways!

In the month before I left the game again, I was on a NM hunting frenzy.
I'd gotten the Rare/Ex versions of OKote and Fumas in Castle Oz before and then went into Fei'Yin to camp just to pass the time (Though my MNK is already 75, I have no interest in SAM [yet] and NIN is too rich for my blood).

The NM spawned after about 3 hours and I got it 1/1.

My RNG was only Lv.21 at the time, but I figured that since I had the Vali Bow, I may as well level up to use it.

I had such amazing Barrages and Sidewinders.
I know it's silly, but it's quite satisfying to destroy hate in a party and have everyone go "omfgwtfbbq" when I die after taking a fresh mob down to 5% health.
I parked my RNG at 60. I kinda like the AF. It's cute :]

At the time I had about 50 million gil, but that wasn't the point. I wanted the Rare/ex.

Bummer about wasting time that could've been better spent farming and buying an ebow, then augmenting/socketing it to get a ex version anyways :P

I would be pretty surprised if people were trying to spam ebow for augments since it essentially gives the 4 main stats you would want anyways (agi/str/ratk/racc) and it seems like you have significantly lower odds getting duplicate stats on a weapon. Though if it can be socketed it could definitely get even better.

Nyzul is definitely a good way to aim for the NMs, have run into 3 arguses in a single run before (no drop, obvi). If you have friends available you can just do a floor 40 rq, killing NMs, getting tokens, and then grab any of the legs you might need. There's plenty of NMs that you can have better luck going after their nyzul isle versions since drop rates fail anways.

Selene's bow and fay gendawa at least provide decent alternatives til you do get a new weapon.

I was 2/2 over a 3 day period on Vali's. I got there, was there for an hour and it popped and a Nin got it, I helped him with my TH4 Thf, and it dropped. The next day I missed, but the only other person that was there was a Drg and he told me when he killed it, and then I went out there the next day and it popped within an hour and I killed it and it dropped. I feel bad for the people that went 0/60+ or whatever on it.

The same can be said about anyone who plays a MMO, I think.
That observation doesn't matter.

We care about being the kings and queens of our own little community.

I was happy when I got my Peacock Amulet, Vali Bow, and other assorted Rare/Ex items.

You wish you had 'em.
So there. :D

I really dont see anything wrong with camping Eastern shadow and get its drop , being 1/1 or 1/100 doesnt matter really as its my time and I'm free to use it however I want , sure I could just farm for it but If I dont like farming or love camping NMs then I'll just do so :).

to OP: any Item's price are base on supply and demand and all part of the whole economy system that FFXI has. Instead of wishing for the price to go down , look at the business chance of getting said drop from , use it then sell if you no longer need it.

beside you have other options at 75 already and really dont need E/V-bow

I understand your argument, but when NMs are as ridiculous (both in pop conditions and drop rates) as Argus or the Shadows, especially when someone like Lobi can go 1/60 on Eastern, it still makes so much more sense to just fork over the gil or, even better, do the Brothers d'Aurphe BCNM60.

It's one thing to achieve something, but really, should it really take two months to do it the hard way?

I only camp NMs when I'm bored or am doing something else.
I think I was playing Fallout 3 when I was camping Eastern Shadow.
Didn't get much playing in, it only took me about ~3 hours to get the bow.

Maybe some of us are just used to camping NMs.
I remember a day loooooong ago when I used to make a killing selling Emperor Pins like everyday.

I'm upgrading Mandau and planning to upgrade Yoichinoyumi after that so Eastern Shadow was nothing to me. If I couldn't handle that I'd certainly never be able to finish a relic.
