This is my version of the RNG AF Guide ^^

I originally put this post in another thread... But I figured it deserved it's own to reference to since there have been a lot of threads asking about the AF quests. I'll put a link in the FAQ to it also. It took me a while, little over 6 hours ><.
______________________________________

Ok, as you may know, the RNG AF quests can all be found at:

[link=www.killingifrit.com]http://www.killingifrit.com/[/link]

Or

http://ffxi.killvoid.com/

Although, some of them are not described too well (having been translated directly from Japanese). So, I'll try to describe how I did the AF quests in my own words, which is hopefully a little better :D. I'll also try to give a little more information than the other guide.. The names may be off, but other than that it should be pretty accurate.

The only thing that I ask is if you wish to post this on another website or forum or something, please credit the guide properly (which would be to me) and ask first, I don't want to waste hours of my time for others to copy it and claim credit for it :\. As long as you do that I'm fine with this going around to other websites or such. Thanks :)

The RNG AF Quests

Overall, they aren't really too hard. All of the AF quests are difficult to some degree, but compared to the other ones I've read about and seen and have helped others complete, the RNG AF quests really seem like one of the easier ones. So we are pretty lucky :D. Of course, in order to complete these you still need a lot of patience, because it does take time.

Each section I will describe the conditions that have to be met to do the quest, the quest itself, and you can see a quick description of the armor piece you receive for that completing that quest. The name of the armor is also a hyperlink to a picture of it on this website. ^^
______________________________________

AF1- Crime Hunting Quest

  • The Armor
  • Sniping Bow
    Lv. 41
    DMG 27
    Delay 360
    +4 AGI

  • The Conditions
  • Ok, in order to do this you need to be at least level 40 (any lower and you won't be offered the quest), but, even at this level it will still be a little bit of a hassle to do. IMO, the best thing to do is to wait until you are level 50 so you can complete it with less trouble. Not only that, but honestly, this bow is a piece of crap ^^. It is known by many as the "bow of suck." There is no reason to want it any sooner than you have to. The Great Bow +1 blows it away.

  • The Quest
  • Once you meet the conditions and are ready to start off with your AF quests, you must head to Windurst. Once there go to the Windurst Woods section and talk to the Mithra Tribal Chief, Perih Vashal (I think that's her name), the same Mithra that you had to talk to to get the RNG job. She will tell you a little story that will probably end up confusing you more than anything, but it's still pretty interesting. Eventually, she'll give you a quest, and you'll have to head all the way to the opposite side of the world; Ranguemont Pass. If you don't know where this is, just go to the top right corner of East Ronfaure (near San D'Oria), and you'll see a cave, that's it. You could get a map of it in San D'Oria to make it a little easier on yourself, the area can be a little complicated, so I would recommend it. I'm not sure what quest you need to complete for it though. :(

But once you're in, it is pretty much a straight path up to a room with two NPCs in it. The one you need to talk to is Perchond, the other operates the door you'll need to go through later on. Talk to Perchond and he'll tell you a little story about a Ghost and how courageous he was and bla bla bla, (I was laughing), I think it kicked his **** and he was exaggerating :D, lol... But you'll have to go through the door and go to the north-west area of this map. There, you'll see Evil Weapons that you will have to kill for a drop. I never really saw a lake like the one in the cut-scene; I just killed whatever weapon I saw. First one I killed I got the drop, which was some sort of dust (Perchond tells you what it is).

Then, bring the dust back to Perchond and he'll tell you to bring and Envelope to Alexius, an NPC at the lake in Jugner Forest. It is the lake that is closest to the entrance into Batallia Downs, and the NPC is pretty easy to spot. Once you talk to the NPC, if you go down the side of the lake about 30 feet (I believe south), you'll see a river that meets the lake, and it'll have a fallen tree over it for you to cross it on. Cross that river and you should be able to find a tree that has a ??? on it. In order for you to find this ??? it has to be on the night of a full moon. To see what type of moon it is type /clock, 90% and higher is a full moon when the phase is going up, 95% and higher is a full moon when it's going down. The moon phases change really slowly, so if it's at 10% when you check it, you have a long time.... As in maybe a real-life day or more... Just keep checking it, the moon changes a small % daily.

Once you check it you get a cut-scene, and you get to see a Mithran RNG who holds the bow on her back, unlike how we other RNG's get to keep it under our shirts... Or wherever we pull it from (I'm jealous ><). Note, you do not fight a ghost. I was waiting around there for almost half an hour expecting to fight a ghost, but you don't. Once the cut-scene is over, you head back to Windurst Woods and speak to the Tribal Chief for one final cut-scene. When that's done, you have officially completed your AF1, and get the bow of suck. Congrats! :D

    AF2- Tribe of Fire Quest

  • The Armor
  • Hunter's Beret
    Lv. 54
    Def 21
    +13 HP, +3 INT
    Ranged Attack +5
    Increases "Rapid Shot" activation rate

  • The Conditions
  • For this quest you have to be level 50, and you have to have completed the RNG AF1. This quest is a lot harder than the last, takes a lot more time, and is much more deadly. Probably the most time consuming of all the AF quests, so this section is pretty long.

But, it is possible to do this solo. I did half of it solo, but, the other half I had help from a few friends. If you can, sub a WHM to cast Sneak and Invis, because you'll need it (at worst, NIN sub is good for tonko). Otherwise you'll have to buy a lot of Prism Powder and Silent Oil... Of course, if you can manage to get a party together then that works too. I would recommend having ether a full party of level 50+'s, or having help from two others that are in there high-mid 50's (I did it easily with a 53 RNG (me), 55 RNG, and a 56 WHM).

  • The Quest
  • To start this quest you will need to talk to the Mithra Tribal Chief again, the same one that you spoke to in the last quest. Although, you can't go straight from ending AF1 to beginning AF2, she won't give it to you until you return back to Windurst. So just zone and re-zone somewhere. Once you talk to her she'll ask you to go to Mhaura, where you speak to another Mithra who is located at the Smithing Guild (or some guild there). Once you're done speaking to her you head to The Eldieme Necropolis (I hate this place).

Before entering there I recommend running to Lower Jeuno and buying a map of it for 3k. You can purchase it in the building across from the AH. Once that is done, if you're doing this solo bring a bunch of Silence Oil, and one or to Prism Powders. Or, if you're lucky, sub WHM. Ether way you'll need one friend to help you. I wouldn't recommend making a party for this, it would take way too long to fight everything that agros and/or keep them sneaked.

Once you're ready, head out to the Necropolis. If you enter from the South entrance in Batallia Downs, just keep taking left turns until you see a door in a room with the Lichs and Fallen Knights in it, called 'Titan's Door'. This is where you'll need the help of your friend; he'll have to flip a switch located near the main room in the center of the map to open the door. I'm not sure exactly where it is, but it is easy to find. So at worst it'll take you a few minutes of wandering to find it. There are a few different switches, I'm not sure if they all open that door, but it shouldn't take long to find out.

Once the switch is flipped and you pass through Titan's Door you'll enter a rather large room with graves in it, and if you take a right you'll see another smaller room with a Tombstone in the middle. That is what you need to examine. BUT, beware... There is a bomb mob called Azer in the room that agros to sight, and it is pretty much the only mob in the whole Necropolis that will. It surprised me when I did this AF, and thanks to it, I died ><. It attacked me and checked as an Even Match at lvl 53. I figured I might be able to solo it with some luck, or at least examine the stone and run for my life. But when something attacks you, sneak wears off... Before I knew it I was being chased down by half the mobs in the area ><, and was dead. I vowed to get revenge one day... But yea, so watch out for it. And if you kill one, make sure to curse at it a few times for me :D.

When you examine the tombstone you get another cut-scene, and then you can leave. The easiest way out is to drop down through one of the graves, and no matter what you'll end up on a short one-way path that will eventually lead to Batallia Downs. This is the fastest way out, but you also go by a lot of higher level mobs. So make sure you still have Sneak up. If you want you could just have your friend flip the switch again and head out the way you came, but I think it's easiest to just drop down. Once you're out, head AAALLLL the way back to Windurst for a little 10 second cut-scene, and then go to Castle Oztroja. This is located in the top-middle of the Meriphuted Mountains (sp?), also known as the head of the "spine".

This part of the quest is much more difficult, and can also be done solo (with a stack or two of Silent Oil and Prism Powder, or just a WHM sub), but it would be best with a party. I'd also recommend trying to get a map (unless you have someone in your party that knows this place), because it's pretty big. When youre ready, you'll need to go up to the third floor. There are a few different doors with switches that you'll have to go through, and the combination of switches needed to open them is completely random and changes each day. For the first door picking the wrong switch will activate a trap door, but it's pretty easy to get back to where you were if you fall through (it's mostly one-way). My strategy is to run back right after you hit the switch, and you can usually get far enough away to escape the trap. That is the door on the first floor. Towards the end of the 2nd floor you'll start meeting tougher Yagudo's that will agro (usually easy at worst), so put Invis up to be safe.

After that, you keep moving on up (to the east side!.. lol, ignore that :D, it's a song ^^) until you reach another door that requires a combination of switches to open. At the door there are two Yagudo that you may have to take on, since your Invis and stuff wears off from playing with the switches. They are pretty tough to solo, which is another reason to bring a party (or at least a friend), but you should be able to solo them, or if youre lucky get buy without fighting :D. Once the door is open, follow the stairs up for a little while until you come into a room with a small lake in the middle with Parasites in it. Note, the Yagudo in this area are much more difficult, and usually check as a Tough or Even Match, and some Decent Challenges (depending on level). So make sure Invis is up.

In the middle of this lake is where you'll have to use Scavenge. The Parasites, however, agro to Sound. So ether you'll have to have your party clear away some of the mobs in the room, or you'll need Sneak and Invis. Keep in mind that when you Scavenge, your Invis will wear off. What I did is I ran to the middle and waited until the Yagudo were at a safe distance, used Scavenge, and ran back to the others who where camping at the hallway to the room. Then, while waiting for Scavenge to come back up, we cleared out some of the mobs (just the Yagudo). We just repeated the process until I got the piece, which was an Old Earring. It took me 4 tries, but I've heard it can take anywhere from 2-9. This part would be easy to solo, since you could just re-Invis yourself in the center and take cover in the down time. When you're done and have the item, just head back to Windurst one last time. Take note though: This is not a key item, it'll be in your inventory.

In Windurst, you talk to the all mighty Tribal Chief once more, and she'll give you the coolest hat in the game B). Congrats! AF2 is now done, and you have a cool hat to show for it :D

AF3- Cut off the Chain Quest and NM Fight

  • The Armor
  • Hunter's Socks
    Lv. 60
    Def 12
    +10 HP, +4 AGI, +5 Evasion
    Enhances "Scavenge" effect

Ok, after putting it off for like 2 months, I'm finally going to get this part done. XD

  • The Conditions
  • Have to be at least level 50, and you need to have completed RNG AF2.

  • The Quest
  • To start this quest off, you have to go to Perih Vashal in Windurst Woods (same NPC you talk to for other AF pieces and to get the RNG quest), and you'll end up being directed to Mhuara. There you will go into what I think was either the Goldsmithing or Smithing Guild and talk to the Mithra NPC in the shop. You will have to trade her a Gold Earring, which ranges from 50-80k on the AH for most servers. Once that is done, you will be told to go to Xarcabard where you will fight the NM Tiger Koenigstiger.

This NM uses Paralyzga, Dispelga, Graviga, along with a few other really nasty spells. He has 21000 HP along with rather low evasion and moderate defense. It is recommened to have an alliance of 12-18 level 60's to safely beat this NM, and I agree. I've fought it 6 times now, and each time we had a full alliance of people ranging from level 55 to 70, and there were still a few occasions we ran into trouble.

The place you spawn him is close to the entrance of Castle Zvahl, in a cave on the right side of the path going up to the castle if you're facing towards the castle. There will be a ???, and you will get a small cut-scene followed by the NM running out of the cave after you examine it. Once it is defeated, head to the opposite side of the pathway leading to the castle and you'll see another cave with a ??? in it. Examine it, and you'll get a cut-scene. Once it is done you can examine it again and obtain 99x Ice Arrows (I'd rather have 99 PPA's ; ;).

Then, you just go back to Perih Vashal in Windurst for one final cut-scene, and you're finsihed. "(Insert name here) obtains the Hunter's Socks." :D

AF4- Garlaige Citadel Coffer Hunt and NM Fight

  • The Armor
  • Hunter's Bracers
    Lv. 52
    Def 10
    +10 HP, +3 DEX, +10 DRK
    Enhances "Shadowbind" effect

  • The Conditions
  • You have to have completed the AF1 and AF2 quest, and of course, be lvl 50. The only difficult part of this quest would be assembling a party/alliance to do it. I was pretty lucky and I joined an AF alliance, where we went around to all the different areas and fought for the key drops people needed for their AF armor. Most of them were 55+, some where a little lower or higher (I was lvl 55 at the time). It was a full alliance so we had no problem owning everything and doing it quickly.

Anyway, you'll need a good party of level 55's if you want to risk a close fight with the NM. I would recommend making an alliance around that level with about 10 people, just to be safe :D. But for getting the key in Garlaige Citadel you'll just need a party of lvl 55's, more the merrier though. Just as a reminder, the more people you have, the less risky it is, and the less time it takes.

  • The Quest
  • Ok, first of all you can ether talk to Guslam in the Armor Shop in Upper Jeuno. He just tells you little story and such, nothing big.... Once he's done just head out to Garlaige Citadel and you can begin. If you fall through the first hole on your left, you can head north and camp in a hall that is relatively safe. From there you can take on Weapons that drop the key, and there are also some Fallen Mage/War/Officer/whatevers near there too that drop it.

Once you have the key, which is pretty easy, you have to find the coffer. This, is hard, and you'll need at least 3 others to help you. You'll have to go through the 2nd and 3rd Banishing Gates to look for Coffers (they only spawn behind those gates), you're best bet is to buy a map of the place (also in Lower Jeuno) and print up a map of the coffers. You can search for Coffer Maps online and you'll pick up a few sites, or go to this website which has some good ones.

    http://www.koolaid-ffxi.org/linkshell/space/start

    /cheer for them :)

I was lucky here, the alliance split up into 3 groups of 4 and spread out in all the areas coffers spawned. Each group was it's own party, and not allianced with another, to keep the confusion down. And, they each had at least one person who could Sneak and Invis. The groupd divided up and one went to each Banishing Gate and camped the spawns there. Doing it this way made it really easy, found 3 coffers in about 25 minutes.

This can still be tough though, because of having to always Sneak and occasionally Invis also. Then, some THF's also camp these coffers :'(. If a THF opens a Coffer for treasure, from what I've read, it won't re-spawn until another 30 minutes. But, if it is opened for an AF piece, the re-spawn is instant. Could be false, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

But, when you find your Coffer and receive the Old Arm Guard, head back and talk to Guslam in Upper Jeuno, and then go to Lower Jeuno. Here you'll need to become a member of the Tenshodo (if you're not already), and in order to do, so you must purchase a Tenshodo Invite from the AH (around 1-2k usually). Then, coming from the Residential Area, take your first left past the Guide Stone into a door. Trade the invite to the person behind the desk, then go straight ahead and you can enter the door. If you're not a member, you can't enter. Then continue into a room with the Mithra Yin Pocanakhu in it, and buy the item she offers you. Then go to Port Jeuno and examine the ??? at the box that is right next to the AH. You'll get a cut-scene with a dead bald guy, and you make a contract with him.

Once that's done, head out to the Castle Zvhal. When you're there I'd recommend having your party Invis/ Sneaked, because there are a lot of mobs between the entrance and where you're going. They're mostly easy and decent, but it's still a pain. It's mostly one-way, and once you get to the end you'll see 4 torches. Make sure one person from your party examines only one, and have your party know which one. Once you defeat the NM, you all have to examine the same torch that summoned the NM to get the item. If you do the wrong one it'll come back again.

Finally, go back to the ??? in Port Jeuno, examine it to summon the dead bald guy, and poof! Hunter's Bracers! Congrats, another AF bites the dust! :)

    AF5- Crawler's Nest Coffer Hunt

  • The Armor
  • Hunter's Braccae
    Lv. 56
    Def 27
    +15 HP, +5 MND
    Enhances "Sharpshot" effect

  • The Conditions
  • You have to have received the offer from Guslam in the Armor Shop to go get the Armguard to do AF5. I'd say it's best to complete it that Armguard quest first, since I'm not 100% sure if you could do it without it complete since I haven't done it myself (but people I know say you don't need to, so it probably is true). But, all you have to do is find a key and open a chest. Much easier than the previous ones.

This is also probably one of the easiest keys to get, another reason I think we are lucky with our AF. Just try going to the Eldieme Necropolis (took 7 hours, 2 keys) or Castle Oztroja (5 hours, 1 key) to get a key drop ><.... Did that helping a few friends out, lol. Not only that, but the mobs are pretty easy to take out, so you'll be flying through them. I'd say bring a party of level 50's (and you could gain good exp off the mobs), or just wait until you are level 55 and grab two to four others around the same level or higher to help. The AF piece is lvl 56 anyway. I did it with a lvl 55 RNG (me), lvl 55 PLD, lvl 55 WHM, and near the end a lvl 60 BRD and lvl 55 THF.

  • The Quest
  • There really is no quest, just get a key and open a Coffer and you get your AF piece. The key you'll need is in the Crawlers Nest. To get it, your best bet is to go to the Rumble Crawlers spot, or the hall that links the two small rooms where the Rumble Crawlers and the Helm Beetles spawn (this area is branched off from the main room with Mushussu (or whatever, big scorpion) and flies and Blazer Beetles and Exorays... Where you level from 40-45-ish). Once you're there, just kill Helm Beetles until you get the drop :D. I've done this for a total of 4 keys, and it never takes more than 20 minutes (about 5-15 kills) between the key drops.

The guide says that Rumble Crawlers also drop them, but I never once get one :\... I'd just stick with the Helm Beetles.

As for the coffer, this can be difficult to find. It took me exactly 12 bottles of Silent Oil before I found it, so I was stuck at the chest on my last bottle. Then I got lost, agroed, and died, >< lol. I would recommend ether buying one or two stacks of Silent Oil, and half a stack of Prism Powder (Wespe and Soul Stingers agro to sight, Lab. Lizards sound also). Or, have a WHM friend/ sub WHM :P or NIN. Go to the website shown earlier to see a map of the coffer spawns. Most of the coffer spawns are on a far side of the map, if you take your second right coming from the entrance entering the big room where people fight Worker Crawlers, it'll lead you there. You know you're in the right place when you see a bunch of Labyrinth Lizards and Wespes and such... You could even probably get away with widescanning these mobs and tracking them to find this area. Having a map of this place would help a bunch (even though the quest for it is a pain), but I did it without, so its optional.

Once in, search the area, get the coffer, and you're done. Congrats :D... Next...

    AF6- Davoi Coffer Hunt

  • The Armor
  • Hunter's Jerkin
    Lv. 58
    Def 41
    +20 HP, +3 VIT
    Ranged Accuracy +10
    Enhances "Camoflauge" effect

  • The Conditions
  • This time you'll have to open the Davoi Coffer, this is a little harder than the Crawler's Nest one, but not as bad. To do this I would recommend ether a really good party of lvl 55's (you'll get good exp too), or an alliance of 10 to do this with less trouble. Other than that, you have to meet the same conditions as the AF5 at Crawler's Nest. The mobs are a lot tougher to fight here though, most of them if not all were IT to me at lvl 55, and every so often there would be an IT++.

  • The Quest
  • Like the other, there is no real quest. You just get the key, open the Coffer, and you receive your AF peice. To get the key you'll need to face the Orcs on the island-type area. You can get there by going through a cave AKA as the Monastac Cavern (sp? there are a few different ways to get into the cave not marked on the map), and you'll come out near the island. There, face to Orcs until you get the drop. Prettymuch all of them drop the key.

The Coffer is located in Monastac Cavern (sp?); the cave you went through earlier. The Coffer here is really easy to find, but it's dangerous, there are a lot of Orcs in the area ranging from Decent to IT++. But, the cave overall really small, so there aren't many places for the coffer to hide. :D

You prettymuch just need Invis, and maybe a Warp Scroll too, or a friend who can get you out quickly. It took me about 5 minutes to get find it, pretty easy ^^. Once you're done, you get your **** body piece! Congrats! :D

Thats it! (phew) I hope that helps and was a little clearer... Wow, took a lot of time ><. Blah... Good luck though :)

I'll try to keep it updated so that the information is accurate. I've read over it a few times now (a week later, lol), and I think I worked out all the typos and such. ^^

AF2... some minor details from my experience tonight. This guide helped.

    a) Azer bomb...it basically goes around & around the tomb. So you can pretty much play ring-around-the-rosies with it without invis or sneak to inspect the tomb. I still wouldn't go do this solo though unless you're hardcore. ^^

    b) Ostraja lake.... took me 4 attempts too.

In the Necropolis, do you have to hit a particular switch to open Titan's Gate? I was scouting it out last night, and there were more than one, depending on which way you aproached the center from.

    Thanks

I did the Eldieme part of AF2 last night and was also confused about the switches. You can use any one. I just planted a whm buddy there and had him keep hitting it when I needed. It seems like when you hit one switch, any door that's open closes and vice versa. Not 100% sure, but I AM sure that if you keep hitting any switch, it will open.

I'm sad to say though, I was waiting right outside the Titan's gate for my friend to hit the switch, and there was an anon in fishing gear whacking away on liches with a Kraken club. Well, one of them did that AEO attack, and busted my sneak. The other undead don't link with the liches it seems. They were unconcerned with the other player, but they certainly came after me. I lost 1100 exp and trucked it back to Eldieme for the finish.

In short, watch out for AOE -_-

Yeah, and the Azer I found didn't detect me when I deinvised. But beware, the lower tunnels that connect to Batallia that Kenshin talks about--they were filled with IT+ (at Lv53) undead. So your switch buddy needs to come with and sneak you, or you need to bring silent oils. Fortunately I had the latter.

Yes, my friend who was familiar with Necropolis hit the switch for me while I was standing at the Gate. I recall him mentioning the N-S switches control the E-W gates or something to that effect. Unfortunately I don't know more sorry.

Hmmm.... I'll try to figure that out and/or add it into my post. I'm not sure what switches effect what, I had a friend that knew where the switches were help me. I'll try to ask him if I see him online :D

And ouch... Sorry to here about the AOE thing, lol. The undead agro like crazy to low HP, so when that AOE hit you it must've been enough to make you noticeable to them.

    WOO!!!

    All done ^^

I revised it a few times and made a few minor changes and fixes, and I got rid of all the typo's (I think) and added more information... It should be a 100% AF guide now :D

All I need to do is add in AF3, and it's done :)

Hey nice post on the Ranger AF guide. I feel the ranger AF's are not as difficult as most of the jobs. But it does help to have alot of high lvl help. Also I would like to point out that when you go for the Hunter's Beret, when you do your "Scavenge" ability in the pond, it might take more than a few times. Also have a party with you to fight the leeches that are there. Took me a few tries, but eventually got the "old pierce" So if you don't get it on the first try, keep at it. I just need 2 more to go and I will be a full fledged ranger ::D cant wait either hehe.

Just took care of the Garlaige coffer tonight, and would like to pass some advice along if you're not lucky enough to have 18 people Sneak/Invis'ing everyone around Garlaige...

After obtaining your key, you really only need three other people to finish up. Have those three people get you inside of Banishing Gate #2 (south one). You can then use Tonko/Invis/Prism Powders to camp four coffers locations behind the gate. There is a section of hallway in front of the Incinerator where no mobs spawn, so you can wait there perfectly fine. Every 20-30 minutes, put up Invis (one of the spawn locations is guarded by a Doomed, so you might want Silent Oils as well), and make a run around the spawn locations. It took me approx 30 minutes to get a coffer to spawn behind Gate #2, then an Instant Warp took me home.

    The maps that I used were the coffer maps linked from MysteryTour and the full color maps from KillingIfrit. I'm not sure if the site managers would approve of me posting URLs...sorry ; ;

Good luck in your AF endeavors^^

(edited to add comment about maps)

One quick question about the coffers: I've already done the the bracers, so I'm good there. I don't need to talk to someone to "initiate" the quest? I can just walz into CN and pop a coffer? I'd just hate to throw my key away for gil or something.

Started AF1 today, and have killed 15 evil weapons with no drop yet. Am I in the right room? I talked to Perchond, and ran to what I believe is the nw room (no map). There's a lake at the end of the room with a point "Waters of Oblivion", and 3 evil weapons spawn every 5 minutes or so. Killed 18 of em so far and no glittersand yet. It looks like the room in the cut-scene, but this is really getting annoying. Not to mention that it's a 24% waning crescent, so I'll have to wait a while to be able to finish this.

Oh well, level 55 now so at least I have sidewinder, but can't level anymore until I get some of my af gear.

*edit* Got it! Took 23 kills, but finally got it. Now... gotta wait a while for full moon.

Just did AF2 completely solo thanks to your guide, and just wanted to throw in a few tips.

The Eldieme Necropolis is very easy to do solo. I subbed whm and brought prism powders since my whm is only level 20. There is more than one Titan's Door, so make sure you are at the right one, it's the south room located around G-9 I believe. Once I reached the door I did a search of the area and politely asked all the high levels if they could open the door for me. A level 65 Japenese Ranger was kind enough to hit the switch and I went through. I used a prism powder before entering the grave room, waited until the bomb was facing away from me to view the cut-scene, and then quickly exited the room without aggroing it. Have a warp scroll ready in case you do aggro it, or if you're subbed ninja you could probably solo it very easily with sleep arrows without getting into yellow HP and aggroing the skeles in the area.

For Castle Oztroja I subbed ninja and brought a stack of sleep arrows. If you're doing this solo, chances are you will have to fight some Yagudo at the 2nd door with the multiple levers. Some of them conned as decent challenge to me, but with ninja subbed and sleep arrows, I rarely took any damage from them as long as I was careful not to get an add. There are 2 Yagudo in front of the door, and one that aggroed when I ran through on the other side. Dispatched these easily, and the rest was cake. Just use a sneak potion, stand in the middle of the pool until the Yagudo aren't facing you and are a safe distance away, and scavenge. I got it on my first try, and now have my af2 hat.

    Good luck!

That's why I subbed ninja in Castle Oztroja, for tonko. For Eldieme Necropolis you'll need to sub whm for sneak, or use a few sneak potions and sub ninja for tonko in the room with the grave.

Has anyone done AF5 (crawlers nest, Hunters Braccae) without doing AF4 (the bracers). I'm not really that interested in ever wearing my bracers, as enhancing shadowbind isn't useful at all to me. I'll get em someday, but I'd rather have the extra str from my rse personally. Is there anyone you have to talk to to do AF5, or do you just need to get a coffer key and use it on a coffer? I've talked to Guslam and received the AF4 quest, and gotten the Citadel key, but don't want to waste my time for something I'll never use.

I can't reach the Crawler's Nest coffer spawn area. All the paths are either dead ends (even map says differently) or have to go up a level and I can't do that.

UPDATE: Well, died a few times, but finally found it. Haven't seen a coffer yet tho. I had a group down at the other coffer spot on the lookout for me. but they had a group member who needed. He got a coffer ;_; but neglected to do the quest first, so just got gil. Only coffer I've even heard of sapwning all day. Still waiting to see one mysewlf.

Currently on the ledge just before drop down to Rumble Crawlers. Figure I can see a coffer if one does spawn down there.

UPDATE #2: 5 Deaths and negative 5.2k XP later, I have my pants ><

    Ranger AF3
Ok I just did Ranger AF3 last night and here's how to do it:

    -Flag AF3 at windurst
-Get a set of Gold Earrings and go to Mhuara
-Look for the mithran in Blacksmithing Guild in Mhuara for 1st cutscene. She'd tell you to bring her a set of Gold Earrings
-Well trade her that and get 2nd cutscene. You'd be told to head to the northlands and you'd receive a "Koh's Letter" key item
-Gather an alliance and take TeleVahzl. The suggested group size is 10 lvl 60(I did with an alliance of 18) Go outside Castle Zvahl(Dont Zone in) Go to E-9 and look for a ??? it's in front of a cave which you cant enter, with a few torches in front. Once you check the ???, the NM Tiger will spawn.
-Massacre the tiger and go to E-8, directly opposite to a similar cave and check the ???. You get a very long cutscene.
-Check the ??? a second time and you'd get 99 ice arrows
-Go back to Windurst to Perih and you'd get your Hunter's Socks

I started AF2 tonight and to the point where I got a cutscene where I entered the necropolis from the south entrance. I went in and got lost but I remembered from the instructions that gravestone is next to azer. My smn/whm friend that was hitting switches for me got poped on by Azer so I came running back to him since the tombstone is supposed to be next to azer. I inspected and it stated that the name of the sinner's daughter is not on this tombstone. the guide said i was supposed to get a cutscene here but I never did so i was optomistic and went back to windy to find her telling me to go back to mhaura again. Where did I mess up once I went into necropolis? can somebody help?

P.S. I fought Azer at H8 next to that tombstone not G9's tombstone. So I am guessing all 4 of them could have azer at them at any time.

There is an Azer next a few of the different switches/tombstones in the Necropolis. In the guide, you'll see it said that first you have to go through Titan's Door, which is the door that had to be opened by another switch with the help of a friend. Once the door is flipped open, you go through, and then you'll see a small room with a tombstone and Azer in it branched off from the main room. That's the one you need to examine.

I also recommended getting a map, and I still kinda do now, it can help out a bunch... Otherwise, like I said, just keep taking every left you can from the entrance, and you'll end up at Titan's Door. Then from there, take more lefts, and you'll be at the tombstone.

All of the information I just gave you was also written in the guide. :p

But good luck on try #2.

Oh, lol ><... oops, I should clarify that a little more... It's not all lefts on the map, it's just all lefts on the paths. If you go by the map and try to go left you probably won't be able to. Looking at the map, you'll see I think 4 big rooms, one in the middle, and the other three on the top, left, and right of the middle room. The room you're trying to get to is the left one :D

Hope that clears it up a little... Congrats on finishing it though :D

RNG/THF is definately a workable combo, despite what others may think, so you could be one.

And yes, if you have a level 75 DRK and a level 60+ WHM, you will be able to do most of the quests with just them, with the exeption of the AF3 quest. That may take more people, the NM is much tougher than the regular mobs you face for the other quests.

AF2 can be solo without any problem if you dont have a friend handy and willing to come w/ u to open the gate for you.

All you have to do is stand next to the titan door (bring at least 1 stack of sneak oil).. Sooner or later someone will bound to activate one of the switch to open the titan door for ya :) Took me around 5 mins standing there for gate to open :)

BTW, what u should do is change to ur lowest lvl char (preferred lvl 5 or less) and dont wear anything on ur char, nothing. That make the sneak oil last so much longer.

Also, to open the coffer chest you just need to have the AF4 quest activated, you dont need to complete the quest if you dont want to.

Ok I went into castle oztroja today to finish up the berret and was plesantly dissapointed. I used scavenge 14 times in the pond and got nothing. I gave up due to the fact that I didnt bring anymore silent oil, so what Im wondering now is if I was at the wrong pond? Are there more than one ponds on the upper floor and if so can someone post the <pos> of the correct one? Or did I just have some bad luck perhaps? Maybe a certain spot in the pond? It was irrating but I'm not giving up yet, so hopefully someone can clarify before I spend another two hours counting down scavenges again...

I don't remember ever seeing any other ponds, but it is possible to mistake for one...

It's a small pond in the middle of a rather big room that has a bunch of Yagudo around it, and in the pond there are Parasites. I'm pretty sure there is only only pond in the entire castle that matches that description.

there are 2 ponds...one has jellies in it and the other has leeches. You want to scavenge the one with leeches. U have to pass to doors that have the siwthces. The one on the first floor and the one on the second floor that has 4 switches. Then make your way in as deep as u go to find the pond with the leeches. Fairly easy if u buy the map and have tonko ichi.

He yaps about how great the gloves are but does not give me the CN or Davoi quest, can I just go open the coffers anyway or what do I need to do to get the quest from him? not a bad FAQ at all, i didn't read many of the replies, but some quick information to fill in:

Darkspark is a huge pud, i was in a pt of 4 that killed it. Lv55 rng, lv55 blm, lv58 pld, and lv60 rdm. at 65+, it should only take ~2 people to kill it.

AF3 (the hunter's socks) tiger NM is hard for one reason: Area of Effect paralyzga. It spams that thing like no tomorrow, and whm frequently DO NOT cast paralyna for some reason (First time i went through, had 3 whm and 2 rdm/whm, 8 paralyna's were cast the entire battle, and the alliance of 15 lv60+ nearly got wiped. everyone DID end up living, but we had MASSIVE damage output of a lv72 mnk, lv63 rng, and 2 lv60 rng , with 5 lv58+ blm.) For each ranger that needs the AF3, you have to fight the NM...either that, or you only have ~15 seconds to check the ??? again after. Our second fight went muuuch much smoother, as the tanks got paralyna immediately. The other attack to watch out for is its whirl-claws, which is ~300 damage to everyone near the mob.

Also, for AF2, buying the 750 cp scrolls of instant warp will help you a lot^^

I noticed your post about the AF 6 coffer in Monastic Cavern i was kinda cofused, do you need the Monastic Cavern coffer key or the Davoi Coffer key .. ive been out there numerous times and have never seen a Monastic coffer key only Davoi.. and also if it is a Monastic coffer key can you get it outside in Davoi by killing the same mobs as inside (Dragoon , Chamopion , ..ect)??
Can somone help a fellow rng out..?

stagz, there is no monastic cavern coffer key, just a davoi coffer key. This can be obtained by killing Dragoons, Champions, Farkillers, and other higher lvl orcs inside the cave or out in davoi. The coffer, however, is only located inside the cave that's why some ppl will get confused. :) i hope that helps.
