I have been checking out ranger, mostly cause I want to shoot guns at things. I know it's an expensive job, so I want to know if you feel that it's better to buy your ammunition or make it yourself. I was perusing the price of bullets in Jeuno on Midgardsormr and they cost 7k for a stack of 99. I'm not sure how fast a ranger goes through 99 bullets but if it's really fast then that could get expensive.

I don't know how efficient crafting bullets is, but you're right as far as price goes. Most don't use guns until later levels, since it's so expensive. You're better off to use a crossbow to lvl your marksmanship until you reach the level of the high dmg bullets/guns. THEN you can throw hoards of money into buying bullets.

RNGs go through 99 arrows pretty quickly, and if you're using 7k stacks, it's a lot of money. Most use guns (I think) for that single big impact, since the higher level bullets have dmg of 81 and up. I wouldn't use guns from lvl 1 because it's just too costly, I'd wait until the higher levels to start using them exclusively.

Ok. I am not a Ranger yet, so I am certainly not an authority, but I can tell you this. Crafting is too much fun if you have the will for it. Especially alchemy to make all of those cool poison and other effects on weapons. Alchemists can make bullets although it takes a while to get that high. So far, I've done goldsmithing like this, and have been able to make most of the equipment I need, as well as turning quite a profit from selling silver ingots, (Thanks Shecki!). But anyway, do the crafting, it's more fun.
Make love, not war.
