Is it me? Or is beserk not all that great? I finally hit level 30 last night with my ranger/warrior and couldn't wait to give beserk a spin. Beserk only added a couple points to my bow damage. It seemed liked only a 5-8% damage increase.
I would like to ask some of the higher level rangers for their advice. Does beserk get better at the higher levels? If not, I don't see any reason to stick with the warrior sub. I don't see a few extra points of damage plus lowering my already mediocre defense as a ranger worth keeping a warrior sub. It would seem ninja with blink and being able to dual wield archer's knives would be a much bigger benefit as a sub. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not a high level RNG, but if you aren't satisfied with WAR sub, definately go NIN. I would think it makes more a difference if you're using barrage and such combined with it, but if you don't think it's worth it, go NIN.

My first try of Barrage was dissapointing too...I was like "WTF?"
Only remember that it's essentially the damage equivalent of anywhere between 1-5 arrows in one shot. And worse yet...it sometimes misses, which is the biggest letdown in all RNG-hood.
So to counter that I never use Barrage without Sharpshot. Use the best arrows, buff up with Berserk + Mithkabobs. You'll see one of the big hits and then you'll never look back.
I'm sure NIN will improve your dps rate, but I'm not entirely sure you'd see a marketable improvement in actual Barrage numbers. You'd definitely reduce the chances of it missing though...

Okay, here is the load down on war sub for rng:
War sub is the best sub for lvling when you got a bard with hunter's prelude on you. Once you got prelude, you don't have to worry about missing (not that /war got poor hit rate post 30). Berserk adds a significant amount to your damage (more like 20% stackable with meat mitha but don't compound) so when you layoff a barrage, you should hit for really big.
Next, you have to worry about aggro. It's usually recommended you lay off a barrage when the mob is at little less than half health (so you can take full advantage of multiple hits of barrage) and you can end the fight quickly with a ws if needed. If you have an excellent pally who constanly vokes and does timely flashes, he should have enough hate that he can just do another voke and flash to pull hate off you after berserk + meat + barrage + good arrows.
But it really depends because on your party because brds are rare and good ones are even rarer and so are good pally who understand that vokes stacks and hate accumulates. Sometimes, you might want to relegate back to crap arrows and melee a bit if the tank is having trouble keeping hate.
But if you have a great coordinated party, you can do high xp chains. What you do is take full advantage of xp timer so you rest for a min or two before you pull when you are chain 0 or 1 to get your mages near full mp. When you are end of the xp chain, zerk + sharpshot + barrage should end your xp chain 5 or 6 quickly enough for the maximum xp bonus. When you do that, ppl will like you or say something like, "woo, I'm not going to party anymore unless it got a rng!"..."nah, you just need a good one!"
You might want to give zerk another spin. If I remebered correctly, you will still be at khazam killing low D mand. Your zerk barrage should deal a lot more than what you said. Zerk doesn't grow as you lvl, but I suspect that you are doing something wrong. You deal significantly more damage with regular zerk shots.
In general, you can't go wrong with nin sub; nin sub is the best in your typical tp like the one you were in probably.

I felt the same exact way with both berserk and barrage, but I started to understand Barrage later on (sharpshot is a must) and I'm pretty satisfied with it, and I just recently learned how much berserk helps after partying with another ranger.
We both had the same equiptment (ex- Great Bow +1, Silver Arrows, etc...) and both used mithkabobs, but she was a rng/nin and I was a rng/war. When I used berserk I had a good 10 damage or more over her hits, and when I compaired the highest damage my barrage did with the highest hers had did, mine won over by about 70 damage, and by about 30-ish for weapon skills. All barrages and weapon skills I used were with berserk and sharpshot. I was also surprised when Eagle Eye Shot did 635 damage on an IT high evasion and defense mob with berserk, lol. I didn't see her use her two-hour though, so I can't compair.
So berserk definately does make a pretty good difference. As for if it helps in much higher levels, no idea, I'm sure it could help you crack out an extra bit of damage on a skill like sidewinder.

Thanks for the help guys. I always use the best equipmemt and ammo for my level and was disappointed when I tried out beserk and got so little a damage increase. I'll give beserk a few more tests and see if there is a difference before I jump the gun and switch subs.
