I'm returning to the game after a couple of years of retirement. I was a 75 DRK with a NIN and WAR sub.
I've tried to catch up, but there's too much.
Should I rush to 99 and then worry about gear?
What armor / weapons should I shoot for? Is magian the way to go? Some of the magian scythe's look nice.
Any atma I should shoot for?
Prerequisites I should knock out of the way?
I realize this is a ton to ask, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Is 100% abyssea the best way to level? I guess I need to learn how to play in the post 75 level cap and there doesn't seem to be too many guides available.

Abyssea is by far the best way to level up, you'll see about 100k xp/hr or more. You can easily shoot straight to 99 and worry about gear/skill when you reach that point.
You can pick up the perle gear set at level 77? 78? for very cheap and it will bring you up to par with top lv75 DD sets. Once you reach lv99, you'll want to obtain Empyrian gear from Abyssea. Many of those pieces are the best in the game.
Magian weapons are typically the best weapons, but the trials can be kind of tedious, so there are other options if you find Magian weapons are not for you. I think the best weapon right now is the Occasionally Attacks 2-4x greatsword.
Make sure to find an artisan moogle and unlock your Mog Sack as soon as you return.

How is the Penitence +2 scythe? That greatsword still better than that?
Redemption looks good too...but that looks ridiculously time consuming and would basically require a ton of helpers.

Unless you have a hard on for scythes, Redemption is flawed with a myriad of problems. I have one and wouldn't recommend anyone else to work towards that scythe. The new GS weaponskill Resolution is by far the best WS a DRK can use right now, so GS will have that over any scythe. If you choose to go the scythe route, you won't be considered ridiculously gimp.
