Scythe and Great Sword Magian Trials helpFollow

Hello!

At the moment, I have Moliones Scythe and ring and Balmung for Great Sword. A linkshell friend suggested that I need to work on upgrading my weapons (among other things), so I was wondering if Magian trials are the way to go.

I am a 81 DRK, and am a casual player, so I don't believe I'll be able to camp NMs successfully. I haven't been playing in Abyssea much, but can start doing that more if that will help. My gear isn't too good yet, I know that I have work to do there as well.

By looking at web sites, my LS friend and I have identified some weapons for scythe: Pentience + 2 and Reckoning + 2. Redemption looks really good, but it looks like I'd have to camp NMs to get it.

Can anyone comment on these scythes and suggest others that I could work towards?

I am in the process of looking into Great Sword upgrades as well -- I've been working on keeping both skills up. If anyone can suggest good Great Swords I can work towards, I'd appreciate that as well.

Regards,

Janaka.

if you dont have time no magian will be good for you, Penitence +2 requires an annoying amount of low lvl NM camping and then VNMs, none of which is hard but definitely time consuming

if you dont have the time look at Kriegsmesser for Gsword and Twilight Scythe, Kriegs is very easy to get, and twilight scythe is easy if you start doing abyssea though it would take you a while no single part of getting to it is rather time consuming

krieg's is excellent base damage and easy to get at least. picked one up myself last weekend. if you're casual enough where magians are too time consuming for you, probably not going to be able to easily get twilight scythe either. try darklinn scythe, http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Darklinn_Scythe. same base damage/delay, just without the big +str and endeath.

I have a penitence til I finish redemption >.> doing the same trials with the same weapon over again was kinda depressing, especially when I want to do a dagger as well, which is also the same NM path until empyrean stages

I'm working on a Gun which is the same path except for the first 3 NMs. I can tell you there's still a lot of people running this path, and we had eight people standing around for a 9 hour Bugbear Strongman pop I fell asleep on.

Also, Wiki has the Mob IDs of the placeholders for most of these listed now, so if you have something that can read Mob IDs *coughradarcough* you don't need Wide Scan to camp them.

But really, while I was thinking of building another Emp path Scythe in case I decided to do Redemption for real in the future (lol DRK/COR solo VNM gogo!), I'm really waiting to see what the level 95 upgrade requirement will be. I see far too many Empyreans stuck at level 85 version, and the hitbuild hassle doesn't help to change my mind.

Theres a Dev post on the official forums that WoE is going to be locked instances for 18 people in the future, so go solo coins while you can!

Im already at Chloris on my second scythe, there was a decent amount of people still running this path, especially daggers. Its just kind of annoying doing it again, if only I knew when the cap was 80 that Empys would end up really easy to do I wouldve never built the penitence

The WoE thing was blown out of proportion by @#%^ing retards. It was going to be set up like a KSNM99, then people came out of nowhere claiming it was going to require 18 people to do. The retards on that site are like **** roaches. You can crush as many as you want, they'll just keep coming until they're everywhere.

As for magians, they aren't too bad if you don't have much time. Knowing how to camp your nm is a big plus, and as long as you aren't doing a path with Hoving Ho Pot you shouldn't have a problem. You can just chip away at some 2-4 hit scythe/GS trials.

as long as u warp back there via Garlaige S quest, Hovering Hotpot is rather easy now since his spawn radius is one tiny hallway

Need two things actually, which can be done in one trip. Bring some carnations from Upper Jeuno and some invisible. Warp or walk to Garliage (S), head for the 'side path' of Gate 2 (you'll have to take all the originally 'one-way' paths backwards to get there) and you'll find a Lycopodium. Talk to it, and then exit out to Roc's area. Hit the maw that's there to jump to the present and go back inside so you're on the back side of Gate 3, so you've now bypassed Gate 1. Head for the 'side path' (now one-way) of Gate 2 and you'll see that sparkle thing the Lycopodium was standing next to. Trade a Carnation to it and you're now behind Gate 2.
