Sections of NOLA are becoming Hipster breeding nests. The Marigny and the Bywater have become so over-run with double decker bikes and Sony Walkmans that even the criminals want to move to nicer neighborhoods. FEMA needs to come back and finish saving the 9th ward.

I was in Cali about two weeks ago, and the natives made my skin crawl. I always figured the south was home of the most two faced people due to "Southern Hospitality" but those Cali folks crank it up to 11. Ugh.

I thought US retail shops were full of the most two faced people. Because of that "service with a smile" bullshit etc.

All retail, all around the world, is like that. I'm talking people on the street. I asked for directions to a bar and got a twenty minute summary of someone's life ending with them telling me they didn't know where it was. ****, here someone'll just say "what I look like? A map?" And be done with it. Much more honest.

A depressingly large number of students in London unis (and probably unis in other parts of the UK, but I'm talking about London here) seem to gravitate towards hipsterism either because they **** their money up the wall (usually on Smirnoff or WKD, though I've seen them swarm over Jack Daniel's as well), thereby being dirt poor, or because they know someone who does **** their money up the wall (thereby being dirt poor) and think "hey, that guy seems alright"

Their lazy, self-centred attitude just gets so ridiculous to the point where a total twatface I used to know started ******** once about how unfair it was that he had to be in uni for six hours of lectures across the whole week while half-arsing his job hunting. "Oh, but I've got this one ***** little assignment I have to do, I can't come out to this illegal rave in Battersea next ******* week"

At the time he came out with that sh*t, I remember having twice as many contact hours as him, on what I considered to be a light timetable, and I had time for everything else. And I had a @#%^ing two-hour commute each way. Only reason I didn't just lamp the ******* is 'cos I still had to put up with him sitting near me in lectures.

Bottom line: hipsters are @#%^ing retarded lightweights.

You confuse 'Cali' for 'The West Coast'. There's a difference. One, you have to be on the side of the mountains that can be considered 'the coast', and two, you have to be north of San Francisco, else you're actually on the Southwest Coast also known as 'L.A., or close enough you might as well shoot yourself'. Central and inner Cali is full of redneck bleed-over from Arizona, Nevada, and Utah, and is pretty much worthless desert. On the other hand, the North quarter of Cali inherits much from Oregon and actually has ******* trees, so even if you're way up in the mountains you're in the good part. Redding is a sh*thole though.

So yeah, anywhere that can truly declare itself to be 'West of the Cascades'. That's the real West Coast. East of the Cascades in Oregon is full of people who wrestle bears. East of the Cascades in Washington is nothing but scorching hot wind but really cool dams and lakes.

There is a reason we keep two ******* mountain ranges between us and everyone else. Three is a bit much though, that's how you end up with places like Forks.

This isn't exclusive to London Unis. I had 18 contact hours last year, plus another ten for out of class stuff. Wasn't uncommon to see me seething with rage at people flaunting their four hours of seminars a week with their lectures being optional. Smiley: motz

Oh, trust me, this wasn't flaunting having so little, this was the above twatface complaining that he had as many as six because it apparently meant less time in which to be cool.

And yes, I've had as many as eighteen contact hours in a term as well, though that's because whoever did my first-year timetable put a 1 instead of a 2 and gave me a second-year module a year early :P

this is of course excluding afghanland.

So i work for Equity Office Prop MGMT, I think we were the largest commercial Prop Mgmt company in the US at the time but a few years back we were purchased by The Blackstone Group. Blackstone is basically the House of Harkkonen or the Sith. They are this group of anonymous Billionaires who pool their cash together and use a small team of very smart venture capitalists to buy up companies, trim the fat, merge them together, play puppet master for a few years and then either offer up an IPO or split and sell. Apparently someone leaked to the Wall Street Journal that they've heard from two different sources within the organization that BSG is looking to dump all of EOP in a short period of time. They Purchased us for 39 Billion (including a fat assed amount of debt) and now stand to make back their cash + a nice 21 Billion bonus. The nature of this bussiness is that you're always for sale. Companies don't own their buildings anymore, they rent from middle men like us and at any point the name on the front door can change as these groups use property like poker chips. I'm not sure why I'm spitting this sh*t on here but it just sort of woke me up to the fact that I am not really a person; I am a product and service that can and probably will be traded twice in less than a decade. Can't ***** about it on Facebook because I'm friends with co-workers and I would rather not appear as though I'm worried, which I am. The last time we were sold was benificial. But we were sold to some very wealthy people, with massive budgets and great policies. There's literally no where to go but down hill from here. Working in Louisiana isn't a bad thing. Working in Louisiana by a company OWNED by Louisianaians IS a bad thing. We're about to get nickle and dimed into insanity... I need to crack open a bottle and polish up the old resume in case this does not go well.

They actually bought us and elevated the brand. They purchased over 500 properties and trimmed us down to 105. The trimmed fat consisted of failing markets and over valued properties. I think seventeen of the companies who bought the sold locations were crippled fanantialy when they got too excited and bought lemons. I feel like I should be hating the game and not the player but mother **** these guys are so so SO good at what they do and now that I'm about to be on the wrong end of the ******** I see why so many folks downright hate them.

Per topic, to Neil:

And Man would rise on a column of fire.
Through the heavens and further on.
To stand on new ground all his own.
Only then to look back and down.
Through the nothing through which he came.
Back on tenacities, tragedy, and strife.
And know that nothing brought him here.
But Man himself, alone in the cosmos.

To stand on new ground all his own.
Only then to look back and down.
Through the nothing through which he came.
Back on tenacities, tragedy, and strife.
And know that nothing brought him here.
But Man himself, alone in the cosmos.

I quite like that. Who is it?

re: RIP spaceman,

if you're in the "who gives a **** / astronauts are boring," camp, this: http://boingboing.net/2012/08/27/watch-neil-armstrong-narrowly.html

talking down neil armstrong is being the little bird who laughs at the large bird for flying so high.

I posted it to my facebook first... everyone I know ignored it.

Not something I tap into often. I always get funny looks when somebody asks what my favorite form of poetry is and I say 'square'.

Facebook is only good for stalking people.

Islands are more important for timeline time warps.

Love me some undead decks, wish I still had my cards. Now, I'm limited to the Magic games through Steam.
