you shouldn't be in the linkshell to begin with. LS where leaders decide without notice who lots an item (rather than letting you know well in advance, or having the rules spell it out exactly)
absolutely require that everyone trusts the leaders (and probably each other) to be worthwhile. otherwise you're wasting your time and are headed for big drama.
edit: maybe my point here seems like an obvious one, but i don't think it really is... sometimes you might think "i'll wait and see, the leaders could be good guys," in such a shell. you shouldn't do that. i'd only join a shell with leader discretion lotting if i a) knew the leaders extremely well (haven't done, always preferred rules), or b) had so much **** already, i didn't care who lotted what (this i did, and while the leaders turned out to be reputable anyway, it wouldn't have mattered b/c i didn't need any **** from them).
rules/formats determine the fate of a linkshell. the safest linkshell has absolute rules and minimal leader discretion. the most effective ls has either large leader discretion supported by 100% trust, or converting every single bit of loot to gil, regular payouts, and gil prices for privileges.
