Black set questionsFollow

Hay guys. I just had a question about this gear... Awhile ago i used to wear all 5 pieces in xp hehe you can flame me later. Not saying im using it now or w/e but back then when i did i prefered to reach att caps on mobs using meat and cramming every type of acc i could find in other slots. That was just my playstyle back in the day. I do understand that a good haste /sam store tp and acc build is the way to go but i just had some questions regarding the gear i used to once wear.

With all 5 pieces it was 19 str and 55 attack power. what i wanted to know was with the scythe i was using which was tredecim.. (95 dmg scythe as you know) how much dmg did that potentially add to the scythe, along with how much att would i have needed to cap out att on greater colibri and also for the matter how much att would i have needed to cap out att on mamools and trolls also.

i understood the acc system and w/e but i just dont understand the str system on weapons and such even the attack formulas. all i was looking to do what hit things the hardest i could hit them back in the day and found the black set did quite indeed raise my dmg quite a bit along with red curry while still effectivly hitting things good with just all acc in other slots.

To narrow it down incase you cant understand my grammer:

how much dmg does the 19 str increase on tredecim being 95 and incase i need to throw this in there: my taru base str was 68 at 75

How much attack would i have needed to cap out on greater colibri, mamools and trolls? even though their jobs may differ whats the attack that you would have needed to be around to make the cap?

Greater Colibri
Level 81: Defense 322, Evasion 334, VIT 67, AGI 67
Level 82: Defense 327, Evasion 339, VIT 67, AGI 67

Tred is 95 damage, WRank 10. fSTR cap is dSTR=[14+(WRANK*2)]*2 for +68 over 67 VIT =

135 STR total to cap fSTR.
Short version: You were nowhere close.

cRatio now caps at ~2.2, so for a lv+7 mob, .05/lv = 2.55 Ratio for capped cRatio. 2.55*327def =

~834 attack to cap cRatio.
tl;dr - Forget it without COR and BRD support.

This and

407 Accuracy to cap
Which comes first, always.

from Giga's thread.

... good luck with that endeavor.

Edit: FFFFFFFFUU- perfect except for one number >.< Someone check my math anyway, I might have something out-of-date kicking around in my head.

really this is the meat of it: you won't be capping anything without proper backline support. an att/acc set is very outdated.

I use the black legs full time, and macro in the gloves for weapon skills. I don't think their is a single set in the game that you would want to wear all pieces all the time. And @#%^ greater colibri. Those things have more agi than a gymnast on PCP. Trying to cap accuracy on those is like trying to cap vit to go stand in front of a train.

Somebody has never been to Mamool camps...

Mamool Ja Lurker (THF)
Level 81: Defense 336, Evasion 424, VIT 77, AGI 96
Level 82: Defense 341, Evasion 429, VIT 77, AGI 96
Level 83: Defense 346, Evasion 434, VIT 77, AGI 96

506 Accuracy to cap.

Are you kidding? After doing two Greater Colibri parties, I only merit on Mamools. I almost never miss on those things.

tl;dr - bullsh*t.

Edit: A Mithra DRK/SAM with +15 DEX, 45 accuracy from gear, 297 Scythe Skill, and double Madrigal still has to eat Sushi to cap on these things. Without sushi, Diabolic Eye shims them up to 79% hitrate.

Ok got a couple more questions... Couple posters above said they use black gadlings on mamools for weapon skills but heres my question.. Since HNM and the liking have much higher defense rating wouldn't the black gadlings shine a little bit in a spinning slash build for that? I was roaming the SAM forums recently and they stated that foragers would be better than smilodon mantle for HNM bc of the large att boost on the mantle..

Or is that just a SAM thing because of Gekko att modifier or w/e they talk about thing just for their weapon skills???.

And also ive been around for quite some time but have never heard someone say tl;dr... wut does this mean hehe.

I do understand however after str boost on alky raises the att power, but would that make gadlings a second option? this is of course if im correct about the att on gadlings being good for a HNM fight.

tl;dr is 'too long; didn't read'. Effectively: 'If you're too self-concerned or confused to read all of that (or anything of particular relevance), heres the jist'.

Spinning Slash has a slightly stranger attack modifier, such that it will apply it's attack boost, then cap your Ratio of attack:defense before applying level correction, unlike afterwards as with Y/G/K. This makes it less awesome for crazy-high-level mobs (Jorm, Faf, etc) than SE's golden child. Spinning Slash has an apparent 50% bonus to attack (the wiki is mis-worded and almost disinformational), so just for an example on the birds above, you only actually need a 2.2 Ratio (because SS will cap it before level correction) to be at the maximum, which would be ~720/1.5 = 480 attack. Naturally anything with higher defense will need more attack, but this gives you the baseline as any more attack added will have an extra 50% 'gain' with Spinning Slash. This is where the 'bonus before level correction' comes in - anything higher level will knock this ratio down by the 0.050/level because SS is weird, giving you a maximum cRatio (corrected Ratio) based on the mob's level instead of the standard cap of 2.2, extra attack won't let you push it higher. So Spinning Slash spits you out a 1.8-1.9 cRatio cap (higher or lower based on level of mob) that is so much easier to hit than Y/G/K's cap that, indeed, STR/INT mods become your source of additional damage.

See, now I'll use one:

tl;dr - Spinning Slash doesn't work quite like Y/G/K, and actually does get weaker on higher level mobs (while still easily pushing the attack to cap over defense). In it's case, however, you don't have to worry about level correction and just need to know the mob's defense, multiply by 2.2, and divide by 1.50.

as a 2h weapon user, with diabolic eye, if you can't cap on birds, you're doing something wrong. get a parser or check the thread in the sticky and stop guessing.

black galdings aren't really good at all for guillotine unless you're at cap already with other gear and even then there are probably better gear combinations to use. shoot for af+1 hands.

mam's (thf and nin aside) aren't much of a problem anymore with marinara pizza. the HQ's are even cheap. it's hard to get an accurate parse at mmjsp because of different mob types/level and obfuscate/warm up, but i finally got to give maintiming ares body a spin there. fulltimed my low-evasion set and only popped diabolic eye when thf or nin mams were pulled. seriously, this food is awesome.

Mob job makes a big difference, BLM/WHM/DRG should have lower evasion than Colibri (w/o warm up). I try not to hunt NIN/THFs (N camp) if there is anywhere else available, but I have an acc macro just in case.

North Camp is actually the better camp though...

As for Black gear, aside from legs and situationally head, it's all useless for Guillotine. It's all pretty nice for Catastrophe though, but that's about it.

I've had good and bad camps in N and S. Why do you think N is better though? There are fewer mobs before you have to start killing Wyvern, THF and NIN mobs, and no +chain trash (DRG/BST pets).
