I'm thinking the current discussion this forum is having on Sushi Vs. Meat would cozy up awfully nicely next to the two topics already in the Foods section of your sticky.

I'm also trying to hunt up some threads on moneymaking, as our job, like most (well-played) melee jobs, is one heavy gil sink. About the only thing I've got at the moment without forum searching ability is my own experience: farm your **** off in Pashhow Marshlands at 30+ for silk threads, beastman blood, beehive chips, and the rare bag of tree cuttings.

Hi! Good job! But what about the Luisant armors? (Luisant Salade, Luisant Sollerets, Luisant Brayettes, Luisant moufles --- all level45) ? They're expensive, yeah, but aren't they good enough to last till level75 ? As for a Brigandine+1...

Heh, I've actually started lvling my smithing and related subcrafts specifically so I can have a full set of the Luisant armor when I hit 45.

As for lasting until lvl 75, I know I would much rather have a Haubergeon than a Luisant Cuisses at 59 and a Hauberk when the time comes. I imagine there are better pieces to pick up along the way, but that has to be THE best armor at 45, hands down.

I wrote up a chart/checklist of all the spells a DRK/BLM (best DRK combination for magic) obtains, when they get them, and the MP cost of each spell. I thought it'd be pretty useful, but as for now it's in it's own thread. I'd appreciate it if you would add it to this list ^^. Heres the link to it.

Thank ye ^^.

Hi guys,

Thanks to Scholar for putting this up. Been my guide for my DRK til now at lvl 41 ^^.

Just a question: My ls member told me that as a DRK, it's unsuitable for me to join in any bcnm or promyvion battles. Now this is depressing. Is that true? I really wanna get some stuff from those bcnm battles (leaping boots / peacock charm / gils ^^), and my drk is my highest lvl char so far. It'd be a disappointment if i can't get into those battles (or contribute immensely). Anyway, what do you advice, everyone?
Thanks in advance! :)

i did every single zilart/CoP mission as drk, and it turned out fine. those ppl who says drk cant contribute to anything are just haters and doesnt like to think outside the box.

DRK in peacock charm BC works, the rdm just have to kite 2 eyes while the NIN and DRK team up on one.

Hey Scholar,

Thanks for the reply post there. Well, at least there's some hope for my DRK to do all those quests/mission battles ^^;
The only problem is that a lot of people would prefer mages, ninja and ranger as opposed to DRK. I have yet to find anyone willing to do bcnm with DRK/WAR. But well, I guess I just have to wait til one party who's willing to do so lol.
Thanks again for your tips, mate!

Edit: Ok, just today a Japanese pt of Nin/war and Rdm (cant remember subjob) invited me to do 40 bcnm for peacock charm. They initially wanted nin/war, but let me in anyway. Fought twice, overall win 1/2, but in the process i died twice. Firaga by the sobbing eye owned me completely. >_< We wanted to do it again, but rdm has to leave. And another rdm initially wanted to join, but withdrew after mentioning that drk stands no chance. That's my experience lol. I guess drk still isn't that popular in bcnm.

stupid question, but did you try stunning the firagas? they dont use it constantly, so there shouldnt be any problem. plus you can run out of range assuming the target is on the ninja.

i tried weird combos like NIN, RDM, and 3rd spot either MNK/NIN or COR/NIN. DRK could definately do the same as those jobs, maybe even better.

DRK offers a lot, people just dont like to try anything new and doesnt think outside the box.

Ah I didn't use stun on firagas, silly me lol. Didn't occur to me to use that until you mentioned it. The sobbing mob casted it so quickly and the only option I thought of was Weapon Bash it (the long delay til next use didn't help either >_<). I might try this again (once I find people who're willing to do it lol)
Any recommendation on food etc?

Thx for pointing it out, Spicy! :)

And one more thing, the first time i went to this bcnm, the rule was 'your orb your drop', and when it's my turn to use orb (on 2nd try), we all died cause RDM didn't use Reraise earring like what he did on 1st try. Anyway, surprisingly i still have the star orb in my possession. Is this a glitch or am I the first to know that if you died on a bcnm, you won't lose your orb? XD

nothing special food needed, just use what you've been using for EXP.

and regarding the orb, it stays in your inventory after you trade it in order to enter the BCNM. however, it'll be unusable either win or lose. so just toss it =)

LOL there goes my 40 seals. Such a pity. Anyway, just found a linkshell who's focused on battling bcnms etc. Might stand a chance to fight and win the items. Will let u know how things go. Cheers for all the advice! :D

Edit: My ls member said you can trade the broken Star Orb back to Shami in Jeuno to get a little bit of fame. Thought I'd share this :)

hey you should include this link in the guide incase anybody such as myself still have any lingering thoughts and conserns as to why DRK should use scythe. Im certain that if they watch this video they will finally find out WHY scythe is so much better than GS or <insert weapon here> for drk and WHY guillotine is "all that and a bag of chips" i seriously sueggest you put this link somewhere that speaks about weaponry in your post:

Yes. Truly, this singular video shows that scythe = all that AND a bag of **** chips.

I thought it would be something cool like a DRK using Spiral **** on AV for 1k+ damage, or something. (A Guillotine for 937 dmg...on a mob that's a much lower level than the DRK...it just isn't that impressive.)

**** how am i to know the strength of that dragon thing? i've never seen it. besides it was taking them a long time to kill it, and he took the last 48% of its health out with a single blow.

Heh, okay then. That dragon is the one that you have to face to unlock Dragoon. It's only got 2200ish health. By comparison, my fully buffed SE guillotines do anywhere from 900-1500 damage on exp mobs. That's why I wasn't very impressed. :P

Those interested in checking skillcaps can swing by FFXI Somepage's skill calculator for any relevant info. ^^
