Apparently this shield has a hidden effect of absorbing more damage than usual from a blocked attack, can anyone confirm this?

How does this stack against Koenig? I got this in Abyssea - La Theine last night.

The hidden effect is only a hidden effect in the English version - all the other versions show HP +20 just fine.

PLD also gets a new job trait at level 77: Shield Defense Bonus. The defense on the shield grants about a 1% bonus over Kaiser shield. These two facts coupled together are probably what you're seeing. My Iron Ram Shield was also blocking more than normal when I hit 77. Now that I use a Gleaming Shield, I hardly take damage on blocked attacks at all.

It's a Synergy craft. Can't remember the specifics, but a friend in the LS crafted it for me for 50% of AH price. The market on it is coming down quite a bit now, though.

I believe that you get the Rusty Shield (Base component) from fishing in Abyssea (possibly LTP only?). The fished item is used in a quest, or you can synergize it into the Gleaming Shield.
