Some quick thoughts, as of 1:30 PM PST on Monday:

-Kinesis Mantle +1 -- finally, a +enmity back piece that's not very expensive (Cerberus) or a pain to camp (Resentment, hopefully not this) or advanced Dynamis only (Valor)

-Styrne Byrnie +1 -- Inscribable... Please god, let us have a sidegrade to Haubergeon. It's kind of sad that PLDs have to stare at the same model from Level 59 forward... and how about a new shield that's better than Koenig/Terror but worse than Aegis?

-Accura Cape +1 -- a 4acc cape that's inscribable... is something better than Forager's, but worse than Cuchulainn's, coming up?

(Yes, I'm tired of staring at Haubergeon + Joyeuse + Koenig/Terror all the time, and will be happy even with minor sidegrades to those~)

The new ammo should be macro'd in for Cures and JAs, not used at any other time. For TP, use a Smart Grenade or Tiphia Sting; for Magic Defense, use Kaman; for max HP, use Egg or Iwatsubute. FR, Cerb Bow. Etc...

It's a size 1 shield with no defense. I wouldn't trust it farther than I could toss a Moogle-laden Taru.

I agree. RDM/NIN with Shield Mastery on a shield that can block a lot has potential, but for PLD... the Shield Mastery +1 isn't worth what we're giving up.

Since you brought it up, I'm wondering at what point (of mob strength) will 227 Shield Skill no longer be enough with a Size 1 shield to proc decently?* RDM has 189 base Shield skill, Buckler Earring/Boxer Mantle/AF Boots/Shield Torque/4 merits = +38 skill, so 227 is the maximum with Shield Mastery as /NIN; I'm guessing it will be useless over Terra's Staff and -PDT% gear for HNM, and I'm pretty sure it will proc decently for VT-IT mobs, but do you know at what point the proc-rate will floor (so adding skill will do nothing)? I'm interested in the -Spell Interruption properties this could have on RDM, but I'm not much of a PLD expert, so I'm not sure I'm even approaching this in the right way (since RDM tanks with Shadows, and not so much with shields other than Genbu's).

*I would just ask the RDM forum, but you guys are pretty much the Shield experts.

Edit: Obviously I would only macro in the Adoubeur's Pavise when Shadows and Stoneskin are down; since 0 damage is clearly the best way to guarantee an uninterrupted cast.

Edit x2: Ok, technically the 227 number is wrong; it's 232 if you spend your MKd'E reward on a Shield +5 Selenian Cap, but I think most RDMs will stick with Fast Cast +10% on Warlock's Chapeau.

A size one shield blocks often enough that adding Shield Mastery to it would negate the interruption. It would not negate nearly as much damage, but the uninterruptable part is the reason to use this shield.

Yes, it wouldn't replace Terra's staff and a good -PDT set. The -PDT set should be used with Stoneskin, too, as it lengthens the amount of time between casts. I think this would primarily be a soloist shield to help get Stoneskin up more easily.

RDM gets Shield Mastery without having to sub /PLD. That's the only real use I see for this - benefits of Shield Mastery AND shadows in one little package.

As far as the exacts, we still haven't worked out all the kinks on Shield Mastery. We know they cap at 60% block rate and that the bigger shields block more per hit but are harder to cap. I think that there are very few jobs that can cap the 60% block rate on Size 3 shields and have access to the good Size 3 shields.

I have an addition to the OP list of new items which could have some use. The Krousis Ring and its respective HQ the Krousis Ring +1 are upgrades of the phalanx ring with a defense of 15 and 20 respectively. They're crafted from goldsmithing and use a platinum ring and an imperial topaz dropped off of the new golem NM Huwasi in the sanctuary of zi'tah. You can even try to augment it in FoV to add some nice elemental resistance to it. All in all, it's a nice ring if you're looking for some extra defense, and it adds quite a bit for the slot it takes up. The HQ adds double the defense of the phalanx, and no other ring comes close.

IF THEY ADD A BETTER PIECE IT WILL BECOME THE NEW PIECE YOU SEE NON STOP AND GET TIRED OF.

I don't understand people who are irritated with char models on their gear. Yeah its great to get something new and better but want it for the stats not because your tired of looking at it. If they make a new shield then your going to have everyone fighting to get one then in 1 year everyone will be bitching again about the damn models. If you hate it that much start changing your .dats.

I know this outburst is kinda extreme but its finally gotten to me. So many jobs complain about looking at the same gear and wanting something new. I'm one of those people that gets more excited when gear/ja/traits/meritable things gets updated and it changes the way we play. Or when people think of new strats to kill stuff we already have been killing.

I should clarify then. It's not just the model that bothers me. What bothers me is that the top TP piece for my job is an AH piece that can be worn at Level 59. Ares's Cuirass is a Sidegrade+Refresh for 14m gil, which I think is a bit of a large gap given the performance difference/ Similarly, it bothers me that there is a major dearth of shields that make an appreciable difference over Koenig (insert "Aegis" for "Ares's Cuirass" above, except 200m). It's not just the model, it's the lack of options. When SE is adding a boat load of gear with stats like "+3 Magic Evasion vs. Demons" and "+2 Attack vs. Amorphs," doesn't seem like much to ask.

on the subject of redmages, shield mastery, and so on~

the shield mastery buckler could be preferable if the proc rate was sane so that a RDM could continue casting shadows in their haste set instead of a spell interuption set.
