Sorry if this is has been discussed recently, don't have search premium account.

This is a set of gear specifically for oh sh1t moment, where as you /nin and get caught out of shadow. Situation such as terror, stunned, para etc. This is not for putting ichi back on. So the debate is really shield skill vs damage reduction.

Diregarding v.helm and v.body, what would be the top 3 options for all the slots. Thank you. Note that this is aiming at harder mobs.

If you can block, go for Shield Skill.

If you can't (terror), go for PDT.

Mix and match to make your circumstance.

but would +5 shield skill be better than -2% damage taken? I am looking at darksteel cap +1 and harness +1.

I have two, one for typical "shadows down, getting hit" and one for "Terror/Stun can't Shield block".

If I'm not concerned with TP loss, I swap in Terras Staff into the second set.

The first set is Shield Skill, then PDT, then HP.

The second set is PDT, then HP.

Note that a lot of people tend to focus more on HP for the diminished enmity loss via having higher HP. I tend to not worry about that since capping VE and building CE is really easy, and I'm more concerned with pure survivability.

My set 1 is:

Joyeuse/Terror Shield/Lamia Kaman +1
Koenig Head/Shield Torque/Ethereal/Buckler Earring
Darksteel Harness+1/Darksteel Mittens+1 (Heavy Gauntlets are better but the drop rate sucks)/Jelly Ring/Patronus Ring
Boxer's Mantle/RSE Belt/Darksteel Subligar+1/AF+1 Feet

My set 2 is:

Terras Staff (If I'm okay with losing my TP)/Axe Grip/Lamia Kaman+1
Darksteel Cap+1/Ritter Gorget/Ethereal Earring/Bloodbead Earring
Darksteel Harness+1/Darksteel Mittens +1/Jelly Ring/Patronus Ring
Gigant Mantle (Shadow if DL ever puts out)/RSE Belt/Darksteel Subligar+1/Darksteel Feet +1 (Askar if 20 floor ever puts out)

Ideal pieces above my set would be:

PDT:
Burtang or Hauteclaire
VHelm/VBody/Heavy Gauntlets/Defending Ring/Shadow Mantle

Shield Skill:
HQ Koenig Head/Knights Earring

You can not block with a shield when you are stunned/terror so the answer is -2%DT is better than shield skill. That is the only time you would not wear shield skill. And getting in any -damage taken gear + HP/Vit gear in would help.

When shadows are down outside that situation id go with skill+ -damage gear taken, balancing them out as having AF feet over askar is better ,but having odin over koenig would be best. Probably shadow over boxers aswell.

I would get the harness+1, the cap+1 is probably as good as the koenig if not less idk tbh.

If you discount Vbody and Vhelm then you really do need to get darksteel +1 for your osh*t set. Shield skill really doesn't do anything.

Like my osh*t set for my pld is
haute/terror/lamia +1
vhelm/ritter/cassie/hades +1
vbody/valor/patronus/jelly
shadow/rse/darksteel +1/askar

That puts me into -29% physical damage, and I also swap hp into slots where -physical isn't available to reduce hate loss. If its a mob where there's no risk of a quick 1 round kill while you're stunned/terrored then I'm usually wearing a joyeuse so discount the haute for those mobs. Also I know I could use darksteel +1 mittens, but I can't find any and its rough finding a reliable smither to craft them.

A fantastic non-hnm osh*t set is
joy/koenig
darksteel +1/hp neck/cassie/buckler
darksteel +1/darksteel+1/patronus/jelly
gigant/rse/darksteel +1/askar

Thats -20% physical damage while stunned and is all available to the less serious pld with a little work.

thanks alot, just what I wanted to know.

I would suggest heavy gauntlets for hands over mitten +1. That's about it.

For none stun or terror just go all out shield skill right?
