DD PLD rantFollow

So I needed a buffer on PLD today and didnt really feel like going to campaign. Tossed my flag up and got a level sync invite to azouph isle @ 67. OK great equip DD gear grab a stack of echos and go have a good time, Hate was decent MP wasnt an issue for the most part mobs were dying was a faitrly good lvl 67 party.

Now here comes the "good" part. RDM and the blm we had leaves reps themselves with a scholar and another rdm. Midway through 3rd mob the new rdm says "wheres your af body?" I equip it for the rest of that imps short painful life and responded to his tell "right here I have it with me" His respone was "Id prefer you to wear a full defense set up to help with MP management, but I can work with it if you dont want to. If you want to be a DD you should go get a DD job"

I figure ok, Ill play along. put on my normal tanking gear, I had a whole 5 defense more.

Now Im thinking ok, maybe this guy doesnt understand pld DD or the concept of it, or maybe this is his 1st job to 75. I leave party to go to dynamis and check him just to see. Nope hes a 75 pld, iirc his comment is something about "PLD king"

I mean seriously, shouldnt someone that has pld @ 75 know that vs imps a DD pld with even halfway decent DD gear holds hate just as good or better than a turtle? Am I just doing it wrong?

Wearing a DD body at mire is probably the best thing you can do, a majority of the time youll be amnesia'd and therefore your DoT and ability to land your hits will come in handy. Not only for hate but also for for extra damage.

If pld had a higher damage rating for multi hit swords it would do a lot better. 35/34 isnt that high vs 49/42.

On DD potential, Id rank pld a 6/7 out of 10. Sadly being a dual weilder type of job its suffers a bit of acc like most do and therefor need to be geared toward acc which loses out on the att/haste most of the time. Im not sure which would be stronger pld/nin swordchucks or pld/sam.

Most oldschool PLDs don't get DDpld either- It took me a bit to be sold on the concept. Friends tell me about getting kicked from PTs because they wear Hauby, that sh*t is madness. I can recall going at it with a few idiots when leveling about what gear I was wearing. Bottom line would be what's the harm in tanking naked as long as you were doing it well?

Highly incorrect. When determining the damage ability on a weapon you have to take into account its delay value. It looks like your trying to compare Maneater to Joyeuse? I can tell you right now, Joy wins that argument pretty handily.

DPS is (Damage * 60)/Delay. For Joy we can calculate the synthetic delay as 224/1.45. So 154.48. (35*60)/154.48 = 13.5933 (depending on how you truncate the decimals it comes to 13.59 - 13.6).

Lesson to take away from this is, don't judge a weapon by its D value but instead by its DPS rating vs available stats. The fSTR formula favoring low delay weapons (because its irrespective of actual delay, more hits per minute means more D added from fSTR) combined with swords having some of the best DPS in the game, is the reason SE needed to do the 2H fix. 2H weapons still have low DPS, but gain in accuracy and attack, allowing for more haste or higher hit rates to balance this out. Also don't get trapped in the Big Number Syndrome (BNS), just because it had the largest number on the screen doesn't mean your dealing the most damage over a period of time.

I could go on all night about know-it-all PLDs that I've watched tank, that would make your heads explode.

But I want to sleep, so I'll just note the Aegis PLD that uses full Mermans/Coral+1/Resentment Cape so he can take -86% Magic Damage Taken with capped Shellra V that his LS requires. >.>

I don't know if the relic holder without a clue, or the LS that encourages it, is worse.

Oh man, those 2 screenshots just won the internet.

A) Paladin doesn't evade, the -evasion is moot 
B) The -AGI is negligible and won't be noticed for other defensive traits. 
C) Haubergeon is only 2 DEF less than Gallant Surcoat.  
D) +20 HP and 4 VIT is negligibly unnoticeable as well. 
E) Enmity isn't worth full timing.

I've noticed that the cockiest PLD are the ones that full AF it with the exception of Adaman feet.

I've tried explaining MANY times to people about why DD PLD is better. I've managed to convince ONE (yes...ONE!!) person who then sent me a /tell about much better he's holding hate and only missing a few points of defense.

/sigh

Nobody tells me how to tank. They want to tank, they can tank. If they say something useful, I'll think about it. I'm the tank; I'm getting hit; I'll wear what is in my and the party's best interest to wear. I don't care if you're 75 PLD and we're only in the mire; you cast, I get hit, that's the deal we made.

Maybe later over brewskis we'll compare notes, not in the heat of battle.

Agreed, im just pointing out that, this ability just happens to come in the form of damage(very decent damage to boot) and worthwhile on HNMs. And I hope SE will think about this and keep on track with it and something close in mind in the near future.

Couldn't be more freaking common... worst if it comes from a Japanese player, then isn't just true is dogma.

On the other hand we should get use to the idea that pick up groups aren't in any sense perfect, I usually stay as long as it's worth, I leave once it crossed the line between nonsense and sucky xp.
