Please record it and post it just to prove how inferior /dnc is to /rdm, ESPECIALLY in this sort of fight where you have a ton of mobs hitting you for medium damage.

You'll be using your main form of damage, which is weaponskills, to attempt to cure yourself, which will be slowing you down. You can't reduce the damage from their hits to managable levels, meaning you'll either be taken down quickly, or you'll run out of mp and tp and end up dying.

It took an Aegis on a pld/rdm to do it. You won't do it /dnc.

Actually, you know what, you may not even die if you're decent...but you sure as hell wont deal enough damage to finish before time expires. You'll be using way too much TP curing yourself to use some for finishing off scorps quickly.

Well thanks for turn in your hasty decision. I think im decent enough to have it end up like that. Its my only concern. Not doing enough DMG. I NEED weaponskills. Which i cant afford to use.

Then use the no-brainer combo that lets you ws AND reduces their damage significantly.

You may as well go /war as /dnc, because both have equal chance of success.

Don't get it wrong pal, it's just common sense.

it's a long battle(25-58 mins) and you will be hammered begging to end by merciless tp moves that get stronger as the enemies become fewer, besides I think as far as an ffxi accomplishments go Pld is already proved enough to solo it.

That said, I wish you best of luck, who knows maybe your char and strategy are powerful enough to do it w/o an optimal sub job.

Ken.

Non-Aegis PLD/RDM has done it.

I've never been enamored with /DNC, it's a great sub for certain things but I've never seen a PLD/DNC solo the harder things that a PLD/RDM can.

I haven't done anything close to this hard myself, but I've done Lord Of Onzozo and Aquarius PLD/RDM solo. (The crab wasn't hard, LoO was pretty intense to solo but I got it on first attempt so it's not THAT hard)

Never underestimate just how powerful /RDM is, you gain Phalanx, Stoneskin, Aquaveil, Enspells, Barspells, Bio or Dia 2, it's an incredible solo subjob.

your only chance maybe is to use ice trousers x2 rotate them and ws Atonement, high shield skill. Even then your chances are slim duo the fact of the AOE, You dont have barststone, phalanx, Stoneskin to help reduce damage from: regular hits x 6, aoe. If it was just 1 or 2 scorpions np for /dnc but your fighting x 6. /DNC is strong Ive tried it but to be honest with you and being realistic, it can't take on heavy stuff that /rdm can. but good luck to you!

Are Ice trousers even worth it anymore since Reprisal came out? Reprisal is just such a great spell to not only reduce dmg taken, but to increase TP, which will either increase your dmg through WSs, or survivability if /dnc.

Regardless, I don't think /DNC can do this, all though I would love to see it happen and wish you the best of luck. Let us know how it ends.

Ice Trousers would be for the paralyze effect, reprisal is a nice tool to help shave off damage, but even the occasional proc on para would give you a little breathing room every once in a while to get back on your feet after an unlucky crit/double attack/tp move.

Not sure which would definately come out better of the two, but ice spikes are nice and potent.

I done a lot of this as mnk/dnc with a healer. The main thing as pld, is dont kill them one by one, the less left the more the AoE WS hurts. With 6 its pretty weak. Also tehy get stuck a lot. If it me pld/rdm with barstone as this help a lot with WS, and take tehm all to about 5-10% tehn try use something like teh AoE WS sword has to finish tehm all at once. Thjat way the damage from TP moves is mitigated a lot, also tehy are crappy weak as still 6.
Basically I would try damage tehm all, then go for a quick kill of teh 6 rather than take 1 a time out.

yeah, i'd have to say no to this one. I regularly farm spiders outside whitegate as /dnc. For anything T or lower, I find /dnc superior, since it is a no hassle sub. Just putting up drain samba is usually enough to keep you going.

However, sometimes I link 3 spiders, and it can be somewhat tough. Nothing remotely scary, just keeps me on my toes. It is even harder without sentinel up. I couldn't imagine having to take on a 5th or 6th spider, much less scorpions that spam AE.

Practice this. When you can successfully do this with all melee groups in campaign, without wiping and in a decent period of time, then you can look at soloing ODS.

I have soloed this a few times without an Aegis. Without Aegis and meds I have about a 50/50 chance of winning. Definately doable, but its much more cost effective to get a mage friend not need to buy meds and have an easy 100% sucess rate on it.

I prefer ice trousers to Reprisal, simply because you can get a near capped block rate without reprisal up, so increased block rate is a non-issue. The para proc is fairly potent and does more for your survivability than a little bit more damage from reprisal.

This fight is about surviving and taking scorps out quickly. This fights get easier as the number of scorps go down, the dangerous part is at the beginning when all the scorps are up. /dnc sacrifices so much offence for curing power you will have a hard time taking them out quickly leaving you dealing with more mobs for longer. Spending more time in this danger zone is what costs you the fight. I have never lost this once I got down to 3 mobs and most of my deaths have happened before I have taken out the first 2.

I really don't see how /dnc has a shot simply because it can't keep up with the damage you will take. /rdm reduces more damage than /dnc will increase your healing capabilities.

Sincerely,
Hankthetank

Now I'm gonna have to try and do it to make sure I deserve to stand by you in the bling tunnel in whitegate.

Soloing 3 Campaign mobs isn't hard as Pld/Dnc, after I finally break atonement I'll go give a 6 mob wave a shot, see how I do.

The trick is to abuse joytoy/drain samba II/use waltzes for status effects/back up cures, and use the infinite TP feed to spam WSes.

If I was only using TP to cure myself with 3 mobs, I'd sit at 300% most of the time, I ws to get rid of Tp.

Having played a lot with both subs since I hit 75 just recently, I think Pld/Dnc ODS is being sold short, honestly.

I'll let ya know when I try it myself.

With 6+ its a bit different. The damage will really add up when they're hitting you for 25-30 a round, 6+ times a round depending on if they double attack. Thats 150-180 damage a round, assuming again no double attacks or crits, or tp attacks.

You'll have plenty of tp yeah, but you'll be getting beat on more than your waltz timer can keep up and you won't be able to get a spell off from interrupts.

I pack on more -physical and shield gear than lots of the paladins have here and they still own me if Phalanx drops if I have 4 or more on me. Thats why I usually try to avoid ninja's if theres another melee I can fight. They lock you with their ranged and magic animations and make it hard as hell to get spells off between paralyze and being locked and sometimes Phalanx will drop and I'll take an ass of damage. Once it killed me cause I had 12 ninja's and they locked me with just throwing star stuff and they killed me from 1300 hp with 0-5 damage throwing stars while I was unable to move or cast anything the entire time.

I don't understand the whole "Lock" thing. My understanding is that ranged/magic does not interrupt casting.

As far as the 6 mobs are concerned. Between slepttp/icaruswing/invincible/1st sentinal. You should be able to kill the 1st and prob 2second mobs without worrying about taking damage. This will leave you with 4.

First mob.

Buff/Sleep tp to 110%+ outside. (ice trousers will be your friend)

1st mob, flash/invincible/vorpal/wing/step/flourish/Atonement. Should be close to dead, about 15 seconds in. swing to kill. Atonement if need.

2nd mob, Sentinal/flash/step/flourish/Atonement/swing to kill.

3-6, waltz spam with drain samba. Keep box step up too since most of your damage will be DOT from joyeuse.

While it doesn't interrupt casting that has already started, the game is programmed in such a way that inputs are ignored while certain attacks are being in place. If you're already moving, your fine. But try moving just as the Goblin pulls his crossbow out on you. In a similar vein, some JA's won't even register until after he's done shooting. I found this much more prevalently when roaming in duos on my PLD than in actual XP settings. I can see how having 4+ NINs spamming shurikens would lock a PLD/DNC right out of business.

This is it exactly. Have you never been locked in place after a mob dies with your weapon out because a mage cured you right as it died? The same thing can happen with stuff like the animation that happens on you when a ranged attack hits. This is how it would go:

1. I claim all 8+ ninja's and run, which with casting and trying to throw stars, they're easy to outpace and get a distance on.

2. I run a long distance, get into a corner, and cast my buffs to wait for them. When they reach 30 range, I start to spam engage to try and get my sword out before they get fully into range, which almost never works because shurikens are so fast. My sword comes out, and the ranged animations now have me locked with my sword out, unable to move, cast, change gear, use JA, nothing. Then i watch while I go from 1300 hp 800 before Phalanx wears off with 1-5 damage shurikens and 5-10 damage Ni nukes, then Phalanx wears and I die in less than a minute. Never able to move. If I've ever attempted to engage later, the shurikens would still lock me.

This becomes a serious risk on every ninja yaguda after the first 3. Of 4 I'll sometimes be locked for a few seconds at a time, but never continuously, and it gets progressively worse the more you add. This is only a problem really with ninja's because they spam so many overlapping animations between spells/nukes/stars. It also is a risk anytime you use a JA or spell.
