Ok, just a bit of background before I get into this.

I've been leveling pld to more or less complete my job set with a tank, I already have plenty of DD jobs so I'm not really looking to gear pld as a DD in the long run. Once I've hit 75 it will probably only come out of storage for things like bcnm's, enm's, missions etc.

I'm 67 right now and I was looking at the Iron Ram equipment and I was hoping I could get some suggestions on what pieces are absolute must haves. Since they're all ra/ex I don't want to invest hundreds of thousands of AN into the set and later have them end up replaced by other pieces a few levels later.

At the moment I have valor head, feet and gloves sitting in storage that could be used at whatever levels.

I know this question probably gets asked to death but I would appreciate any assistance.

They're all indispensable in a Magic Defense Bonus setup.

Beyond that, @75, Head is nice if you have capped Haste and do not have a BMask or assjammer. Legs are nice if you don't have Homam.

In retrospect I think the big question I should ask is what kind of setup I'd really need if I ever use my pld for endgame stuff.

I've tried following the various equipment guides but there are so many options for what pld's do now.

If I'm only going to be using pld for things that absolutely require a pld, since I could use a dd job if I really need a dd, what setup should I follow?

I have a bunch of dd equipment I could use at 75 including a few askar and homam pieces but I don't know how well they would compliment a pld in a non dd situation.

Again I think I would only end up using pld for bcnm's, enm's, nm's, missions and so on, not merit partys or hnms or anything.

Well it's pretty situational and it depends on what your doing. A lot of things can be tanked pld/nin these days and in those situations your main goal is to get 15% haste in gear so you can cap recast on shadows and flash with the help of double march and haste spell. After that you gear for enm, while macroing in full enm for cures and JA's and maybe a turtle set if you find yourself without shadows. While shadows are up you can get away with a a little DD gear since defense and shield skill is not really doing anything for you.

If your doing things the traditional /war style you might not be as concerned about haste and will want to look into a more traditional tanking gear set.

If your supertanking for DM or something your probably going to be looking at damage reduction and such as you will be doing little else but standing there taking hits like the tank you are.

Personally I plan on getting the entire IR set for magic damage and enm sets, as mentioned above if you have some homam pieces (legs) it is possible to get 15% haste without the turban so you could full time IR head, If that is not an option you probably don't have homam legs so you could probably full time IR there instead.

Correct me where I'm wrong those who are more experienced XD

All these pieces are pretty much macro only pieces especially feet. Not to say they're not good but there's better thing you can put there like the Iron Ram set or you said you had some Askar. Askar hands are a wonderful piece for example right under Homam hands I would say.

Definitely keep gallant feet for whenever you're going to take hits which will be all the time no matter how good you are.

If you're not really looking into gearing for DD and just straight up want a pld for small mission things etc. I would definitely suggest gearing for pld/nin can't think of too much stuff I go to pld/war anymore.

So for this particular gearing strategy refer to Scar's guide he sums it up pretty nicely and straight forward.

Keep in mind however pld is a very versatile job and can be used a number of different ways like for now I mostly use DD gear to keep up when I'm tanking small stuff due to the crazy ass samurais and dd's i roll with.

Find your flow man and you'll find out what works and doesn't work.
