My PLD is 71 atm and I'm starting to look into making an endgame tanking build I've taken a look through the stickies but I was hoping to get some opinions on the gear I already have / am working on getting and some recommendations.

basically working on
homam (3rd on the list)
valour
swift belt
boxer mantle
ethereal earring
Loquacious earring
Iron Ram gear
buckler earring
shield torque
koenig earring

it seems like a bit of a long list so I was hoping to get some advice on trimming it down from some more seasoned endgame PLDs I don't really have much gear from other jobs since my main is WHM maybe wal turban and suppa I also have a joytoy already if that is of any use

homam (3rd on the list) - The gear I'm striving for right now myself
valour - I personally view this as a luxury set. And, if I were to get it, I'd put most of it in storage. IR has slightly better returns on most stats and is far easier to achieve
swift belt - had it since 50 and love it
boxer mantle - good piece to get when you're either blood tanking or shadows are down
ethereal earring - As soon as I finish DM, I'm finishing ZM and getting AN done. Yes, I know I can do ZM without finishing DM, but I'm a stickler
Loquacious earring - A slight upgrade - I'd do this last
Iron Ram gear - Easily worth working towards. I had more than enough AN and to spare before I hit 75 PLD for this set
buckler earring - You should have this available by 75, anyway
shield torque - As above - good for blood tanking. I'd use PCC over it, but it's a great piece otherwise. Might also consider Fortitude Torque here, though
koenig earring - No opinion

You mentioned you already have a joyeuse and a Walahra Turbin. Those are great to use. I use my Joyeuse now, even though I still don't have Atonement, and I'm tanking successfully.

Legs and hands(though you can get Askar Manopolas instead) are priority for you, boots are nice too, but you can ignore the rest, don't be scared by Omega it could be kill with 8-10 people if your group know what they are doing, in the same sense, 4-5 ppl can farm every apollyon area
valour
The main thing here is the body, and even that is at risk to be deprecated by the iron ram still unreleased body piece, other stuff is more for /ja macros (valor looks awesome but that's a different history)
swift belt
This could be your priority now, is very good not just for paladin and bring some friends for a run isn't that hard.
boxer mantle
Good but it require other pieces to work well together(like cerberus or resentment) to swap for enmity, if you don't have either of those is better just to stick with high breath mantle.
ethereal earring
One of those pieces with PLD graved on them, the additional effect is pretty significant during long battles(even more if you are blood tanking) and can't be replaced by any other piece
Loquacious earring
I feel next to cassie is just a side grade, it isn't bad but the real gear for this ear is hades(+1), however it's very nice to macro for spell casting.
Iron Ram gear
Very very good, no just the enmity but the elemental resists and the magic defense bonus, make of this set a great investment for paladin.
buckler earring
very good on the way to 75, with situational uses in endgame.
shield torque
Blood tanking and shadows down moments are good times to wear shield torque, however you should consider also parade(refresh) and harmonia/ritter(enmity)
koenig earring
I haven't heard of this item, either is registered in any ffxi site, could let me know where did you hear about it, and what are the stats on it.

At last but not least, the stickies have some nice guides for equipment and pld/nin, pld/rdm strategies, take a look at them I'm pretty sure that you will find useful information.

I hope it helps.

Ken.

list by closest to obtaining
koenig shield
Iron Ram gear
swift belt
ethereal earring
homam (3rd on the list)
boxer mantle
Loquacious earring
buckler earring/shield torque(basically when ever I get the gil)

alright so mainly work on getting the IR set over valour the torque buckler and boxer I was thinking for a shadows down or /war build not full time I have a parade gorgot already and basically full time it since I don't have a PCC and my acc isn't hurting that badly anyway getting 6+mp a tick is just too sexy. Loq earring I'm working on for my whm as well so its probably going to be the first things I spend coins on followed by boxer and brutal(for DDing). Sorry for the typo I'm farming for a Koenig shield not earring late at night + bad at typing anyway = bad combo. Ethereal will probably get done after the third CoP static in my social finishes which should be soon. thanks for the input rate ups ^^

edit for typos

First off, any size 3 shield will work. The main thing we want a shield for is the shield blocks, and any size 3 will do you justice there.

The stats on the Koenig aren't worth it to me, personally. I'm saving for a Wivre shield at the moment and, once I have that, I'll try to find someone to make me a Wivre +1. I use an IR shield right now, as I prefer the DD stats on it, but I'd like the option of an enmity shield and I prefer the larger amount on the Wivre to the Koenig with it's more... wasted stats.

I prefer my Terror Shield.

Its got 20 hp, more enmity than koenig, and it gives me that fun -10% damage when I do campaign.

Its also wwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy easier to get than a wivre +1.

The amount of damage that you take when your Shield blocks is also affected by the Defense of the Shield, meaning you take more damage with a Wivre than a Terror or Koenig.

I have a Wivre+1, but I use a Koenig for straight-tanking and kite with the Wivre+1. (I'd like a Kaiser but just finished getting ingots for my Are's Body so I'll have to get the desire to go earn another 4-5m before that happens)
