Tanking bosses in Nyzul isle as PLD/NIN and loving it. Don't let anyone tell you that PLD sucks in Nyzul Isle, it makes our runs soooo much smoother!

Plus its super fun to tank some the Toau bosses! Did 3 floors 80's last night getting cerb each time and tanked him flawlessly each time!

Only dropped 1 Denali body but still fun.

Yeah, as long as you have a DD build for normal floors, and a tanking build for the bosses, Nyzul runs very smoothly. I haven't had a problem there as PLD/NIN yet.

Our static has been using PLD since we started and it has worked out pretty well. The leader of the static (Zisa, he's posted here quite a bit) would go PLD, but since he's out to sea or something in the Navy, I've got to take his spot. Being the original disc holder while trying to tank sort of sucks though. You can't spend as many tokens on items (I typically just get a fanatics and hope for some decent items on the way up) but it's not too terribly hard to tank them. I hate tanking 100s though since I have to warp out.

I agree it is a lot of fun tanking those though. I don't have any experience tanking their relatives outside nyzul so this is as close as I'll get for now.

Yar, using 4 items a boss fight makes things much easier during fights. Smiley: grin See ya in December nub.

Big time grats!

You are aware this item becomes obsolete rather quickly in endgame, right? Ethereal + Loquacious is generally better for tanking, and Ethereal + hades(+1) is virtually always superior. For merits brutal/suppa or brutal/ethereal are better as well. In fact, one of the only time I'd recommend this over the other options is if you're super tanking. Most endgame tanking is /nin these days, and anything you're not /nin on, chances are you're capped shield proc rate anyway (with AF boots and or merits or one more piece of +shield gear).

Not trying to rain on your parade, and perhaps you don't have the means to get a better tanking earring... just pointing it's mediocrity out in the event no one has yet.

Yea, for the time being I do not have the means to get loquacious/ethereal/brutal; however, I am working on CoP so I should be in a position to get some better earrings in the near future. One thing that interested me was capping your shield proc rate. For some reason didn't know there was a cap on it. I probably should have known since theres a cap on everything else in the game. Thank you for responding to this. ^^ I got to learn something about shield skill, gonna go look that up right now.

I wouldn't say it's obsolete...I'd say you can get a very good alternative relatively cheap off the AH without wasting the choice on your DM earring.

Also, what's the deal with everyone saying shield skill earrings are useless for /nin? I don't know about you but I swap in as much shield skill as I can during :ichi, and as much as I can in slots where I can't get haste or fast cast on :ni.

I wasn't trying to imply that shield skill is useless /nin tanking. Just saying that you're only going to benefit from + shield when you're getting hit while /nin, whereas ethereal and hades are good all the time (enmity/magic/aoes to MP). The other thing is you can get 17 shield skill from boxers/troque in a macro swap, and you only need 15% haste to cap out with double march/haste, so you can use af boots as well. With 27-29 skill already that extra 5 isn't going to be as critical.

Not a personal accomplishment as much as just being incredibly happy.

A long-time friend and all-around great guy got his Black Belt tonight, the last piece coming from our KS99s we just finished.

Congrats Rowanbael of Cerberus on his Black Belt, and the first for our LS!!!

Had one of the best weeks in-game for my PLD!

On saturday we done Sky, and for the second time in 9-10months, Seiryu dropped M.Head, and I got my Koenig Schaller.

Last night we done Omega again, it was my first attempt at lotting Homam, and I managed to snag myself some new boots! I am now sat at 13% Haste in equip, and still needing a Swift Belt to replace my Quick Belt.

Not a big deal, but I tanked a few Hakutakus today for some friends. Took 7 down there with only a BLU for stun and had no problems.....Reminds me of the run I went on back in the day with like 8927984792 people and we still had trouble.

To Gabbers, congrats man, I'm sitting at 0/8 on the belt with about 25 missed claims.

Siralin, I also did Haku last week with my LS and it's such a joke of a fight, we just bounced hate around, nobody really tanked, and he just kind of died. It's a far cry from doing it with like 25 random people a couple years ago, dying every run, wiping a time or two lol.

Got Sky access over the weekend thanks to the assistance of the Swords of Honor linkshell. I know I've said it once, maybe a hundred times, they're an awesome linkshell. I'm proud to be a part of them.

In all the years I've played, I've never seen sky, had I known it was such a cool zone, I might've pushed for it long ago.

Ding - PLD 75

Many thanks to this forum for helping me understand the job and gear up to do it (reasonably) well.

I have no access to, nor desire for, anything endgame related. I plan on using my PLD/DNC for merits, LS events, goofing around and looking **** good in AF + Koenigs. With Level Sync I also expect to take (almost) any party invite for a few weeks until I get tired of the dunes, or garlaige, or the mire. What a ride.

My last Dynamis run with my shell as I am leaving FFXI, and after only seeing one coat and one set of legs from northlands in almost 2 years, legs dropped tonight. I passed to the new guy who is finally showing a little bit of promise after all the days of yelling at him to stop standing backwards with purple boots. >D: rough times but I am proud to say he's much better and with more work and practice he'll be ok and I can feel a little better about leaving my favorite shell after these few years.

Really sad I didn't get to see all of the gear I wanted, but I think I won ffxi 'cause I really truely enjoyed Dynamis week after week, month after month, which I don't think is normal for most. ^^

Syurp was tougher then I thought he would be, had four of us go after him.

BLM died and then I did, the the WAR went down when the BST swaped out pets and the BST soloed the rest with CC. Got the drop tho so it was worth the deaths.

I would love to do this fight again being more prepared.

I finally finally FINALLY beat ToAU 44.

Even with a group where everyone was on, and everyone was doing their job, that fight was rough. Not so much surviving short term, but because it's such an endurance fight... I used Chivalry twice just in the last round of the fight, in addition to Yag drinks, Sanction refresh and double ballad from the BRD. I dunno how a PLD without Chivalry would manage.

Got my ring, my useless silly hat, my banner, and crushing, crushing debt (***** you, Naja!)

You wouldn't cast Flash or Ni/Ichi in it, but for curing/JAs/getting hit it's a good piece of armor. Macro swaps, they're your friends.
