...when you politely ask the Bard where they'd prefer you to stand and the Bard stares in shocked disbelief. Then proposes marriage.

...you can remember chainmail and silver mail being the best sets of PLD armor from level 24-40.

You know... when...
You refuse to even unlock the NIN Job because you can't stand them.

You Carry The proper PLD armor for the lvl that you are Xp'n in when lvling another job because you are ashamed of seeing a PLD not Equipped in the proper armor.

you know you have been a pld to long when....

You can't go through any zone without stopping to provoke and flash a mob

-When you see a nin around your lvl seeking, you find the nin and talk to them untill you get a pt befor him/she and show off and walk away all cool like.

-and if the nin gets one you run off to your mog house crying.

LOL I do the same thing. I always sub war for voke. I either main tank or back up tank when we are missing a real tank. Blu/War Mnk/War Drk/War Thf/War lol. And yes I have most of this stuff apply to me, even though I have been Pld only a couple months.

You know you've been a PLD too long when:

* 90% of your friend list consists of nothing but WHM and BLM who who are always sending a /tell asking you to come and tank for their party....cos they know they can spam cures and hardcore black magic and not worry about getting beaten into the ground. I like those /tells! :)

* You have screenshots of yourself taking a beating while the rest of the PT does the 100m dash like a bunch of girls to zone...while you stand there and laugh! And you're proud of it! And you zoned last by miles! Muhahahaha!

* You /tell the spamcasting BLM that he's going to have to do better than that to get hate from you....I've done that before....and I have no shame!

More worryingly, a couple of RL things:

* You're in the middle of an arguement with someone and just for a fraction of a second you have the urge to Flash and Shield Bash them before realising you can't....you must have left your shield at home.

* You ocassionally walk past a mirror and wonder what you'd look like in full AF gear....not necessarily for a fancy dress party.

I'm still here and I still check pld forums, I just don't play it anymore because of several circumstances. Still love the class and what it means, partly why I'm a white mage now also to look after the plds I <3.

-When you level NIN and everytime you cast shadows you cringe while saying to yourself.. "I am a PLD, screw these shadows.. HIT ME DAMNIT!!"

You know you've been a Paladin Too Long When...

-You volunteer to tank the Monk Type Orc "Marauder Dvogzog" for Sandi Mission 7-1. He uses Hundred Fists, you use Invincible and flip the bird at him as he hits you non-stop for 30 seconds for "0 Dmg" WOOTGA!

-You're a 62 Paladin, see the new armor piece "Parade Gorget", damned near die trying to solo the gob in Oldton Movapolis, get the drop, proudly show it off throughout Jeuno, then start crying when you remember you get Shield Torque at 65! DAMN YOU SE!

-You decide to take a break and lvl Red Mage, giggling at the other red mages complaining about having to skill up their sword. Cause yours is capped from Paladin :)

-You hit Lvl 62 and the thought of walking through The Eldieme Necropolis no longer intimidates you. ^^

(This is my current dilema) Leveling red mage with your wife, who is trying to get her white mage to your current paladin level. You /sea all invites your level and see no paladins seeking at 53-55. And for just one second, you honestly consider deleveling paladin back to 54. And thinking it would be FUN to do all over again. =)

-You are a Galka Paladin, make a Taru mule just for fun, then decide to lvl Paladin on HIM because you wanna tank from 1-60 one more time...

-You level red mage in the Dunes from 10-18 as rdm/war and tank 90% of your parties, just because you're a TANK baby!

-You help the "younger" Paladins in your linkshell get their AF armor, and get mad because you can't see the Cut Scene when they get their Body Piece at 60 >.>

-You can vividly recall the proud moment when you got your last piece of AF in Sandi and walked out of the Castle for the 1st time to the cheers of your Linkshell (And it still brings tears to your eyes)

-You plan on getting married in-game in 2 weeks, and you're still lvl 55 pld. You bust your ass every available second to reach 60, just so you can stand at the alter in your AF! **But your Mithra wife, Meowphttphtt, still outshines you in that sexy wedding outfit =)**

You can draw your weapon, voke, flash, and cure III a puller so fast that your character is engaged but never actually goes through the draw animation until after the cure lands.

Taking a Stone V from Kirin and living is no longer a big deal.

Taking an Astral Flow is no longer a big deal.

Taking a Mijin Gaukure is no longer a big deal (so long as you remembered to take off your BQ ring).

You smile every time you intimidate an undead.

You wear Valor Breeches over Crimson Cuisses even though it slows you down.

You still try to stun Bomb Toss with Shield Bash like you did in the Dunes... even in Dynamis Jeuno.

You try to stun spells with Flat Blade when the BLM's stun timer is down.

... you actually know that Flat Blade can stun.

You banish undead to take away their slashing/piercing damage resistence for a short time.

... you actually know that Banish does this. (yeah, I'm a geek).

You burst light skillchains with Holy when you have excess MP... for 30 damage. You laugh when you burst your own light skillchains.

8 pages is a lot to read through, but here are my additions.

...when you tell the thief to SATA/Viper Bite off one of the DD's in the middle of a battle because "I can hold him on me!"
...when you enjoy the challenge of a PL trying to pull hate from you.
...when you have spoiled SATA by forgetting to fight the Voke/Flash instinct as the mob approaches the camp.
...when your shield kicks in and you take 20 damage, you laugh.

--- when you can't help but grin when you take 60dmg from a critical hit when your shield procs.

a couple of new ones:

-You almost cry when you wear your jelly ring for the 1st time at 63. (Yep, big Galka crybaby - guilty)

-You get hit with Incinerate for 800 dmg, and you tell your party that it tickles (Which usually gets you /smacked by the whm)

-You're in a party at 64 with TWO war/nin and a blm, and you NEVER lose hate. (And your party is amazed)

-You ding 65, equip your shield torque and Tower shiled, then head up to Xarcabard to solo Demons for FUN (and get your 1st CS for Dynamis wOOt!)

You watch the Heaven vs Hell vid on youtube everyday just so you can see that shield and a 200+ shield bash

Just a couple to add:

- When you pull 800 dmg + with Vorpal Blade on a Too Weak mob and your fellow DRK who is farming with you and 12 levels higher than you does Gullitine for the same amount of damage, and your whole LS points and laughs at him!! Classic!!

- When you get invited to a party that just had a NIN tank, and after the first chain you get five friend invites. Including the BLM who just did an 800 magic burst and the mob doesnt even flinch at him.

Oh and just a side note, I held hate the other day when the WHM used Bene, without using Invin...it really does bring tears to your eyes!!

Good call.

- When you're exp'ing on RDM, and the PLD is first in your Refresh and Haste cycles.

- when you encourage the whm to use benediction whenever they feel. You then remember the first time you kept hate when they did it and realise its now all part of the norm.

- You refuse to replace yourself in a pt with a nin because they are "fake tanks".

- You have the term {meat} {shield} in your looking for party comments.

- You get loads of {party} {do you need it?} /tell's from other pld's who also refuse to put a nin into their position when they leave.

- In your invincible macro, you have a line that says "/p Ok party members GO NUTS!"

-When you argue to your ls that pld is a decent healer with /whm and a decent DD with /nin.

- When the #1 reason you're glad to get your relic armor from dynamis is not because it's better, but because you dont have to wear purple anymore.

-When you try to grab hate while leveling whm, and you dont see how there's anything wrong with that.

-When any time you beat your warrior or monk friend's damage on a weapon skill, you feel the need to point it out and harrass them.

i dont really have anything to add i just wanted to be the 400th responder/poster/whatever.

ps this thread has mad me laugh so many times its crazy.
