Good choice for a sub job for a Warrior these days? (was forFollow

Hi all,

I've been leveling a Warrior for the first time (always played BLM/WHM combo) and wondered what might be a wise choice for a sub job for the Warrior? I've read the wiki and that states a Monk (another job I've never played) would make a good choice as a sub job? Is this still the case? My Warrior is currently level 27.

Thank you

MNK, NIN, DNC, and SAM are probably the best set of subs for WAR.

At lv99, in most party settings, you'll go /SAM. It offers defensive and offensive abilities/traits.

DNC is just a good sub in general for all DD as it allows for survivability using TP instead of MP. Better for soloing.

MNK and NIN are less used (if ever), but MNK is the only good DD sub before lv50 or so and after that, it's useless. The only other option in the past was /THF, but it's pointless now as a DD sub. Using /NIN is overkill on defense, but I find it good to have regardless.

/SAM for damage and /DNC for when you need to be able to heal yourself.

Why? Smiley: confused Boost?

/SAM makes sense, so does /DNC, and if you're going to get hit in the face with large single-target magic.. /NIN. /MNK just seems odd to me.

I don't think you get access to Medidate on /SAM til 60, which is the point at which WAR/SAM overtakes WAR/MNK. Third eye and Dodge are equally as useful/useless in their subjob form.

There are a few good reasons to /mnk < 60. Boost is one, if you need more hate that voke, which you don't really. The primary reason is +30 hp due to job trait and counter @ level 20.

That being said, sam really should start being subjob no later than 50. Hasso's 10% delay reduction is better than 10% counter imo.

Boost is like a free piece of food right before a weaponskill. I guess you could also go with /DRK for Last Resort, but if you want to increase damage output, /MNK is probably the best option in a party setting until lv50 or 60.* (/WAR is clearly the best option for a DD, but WAR/WAR is just too broken).

Sure, /DNC allows you to heal yourself, but if that is already covered, you become a subless lumberjack. If you are using waltzes/sambas, then your damage output drops.

Before lv50, what does /SAM even offer you? Nothing really.

*Of course, there's also the whole idea that you never really need to deal damage now, so your subjob is meaningless until lv50+ anyway...

Note- I had forgotten hasso, fixed in previous post.

Is /DRG no longer useful pre 50? I recall it being fairly good with the sub job latent earring and cape back in the day

One point that might be getting lost here is that the difference between these subjobs is basically irrelevant because of the speed at which you can level. If we agree that post 50 it's SAM or DNC, then we should agree that those are the answers to the question because approximately 0.000000045 % of your time in current FFXI is spent playing a job below level 50.

This ^^

/Sam is the most logical sub. Thou with the reives in high popularity right now and the lack of people actually knowing whats going on /Dnc seems logical.

LOL to the guy that said using waltzes/sambas makes War useless as DD. You realize that Warrior is already extremely OP right?
