Job Adjustment Manifesto - WarriorFollow

Vision
Damage dealers who use their brawn to continuously pummel foes with a barrage of physical damage, but also use their brains to adapt to the situation at hand.
We will certainly preserve the warrior's physical prowess, which makes it such an imposing damage dealer, but we also want to make it a more flexible attacker. We hope to accomplish through such means as adding abilities that modify weapon properties, making for more enemy-overpowering carnage.
Example Adjustments
  • Adding new ability that would allow warriors to change a weapon's damage type (slashing/blunt/piercing) during combat.
  • Adding a new ability that would ensure the next melee attack lands a critical hit.
Nice. Nothing huge, but nice.

I'm sure we can be persuaded to bring some of the old ways back. I've been toying with playing again for a while. Nothing serious like before, just for lulz.

Any way, here's to old times. Smiley: chug

One good thing about modern times is you can do stuff for the lulz and get the same/more accomplished than when you were srs biznzz.

Something needs to happen. I've got a question I've been meaning to post forever, but I don't think I'll get any real response. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Old guard thief, but converted new blood war. I forgot to respond b/c I was off duoing Ukon with my White Mage friend.

I like these changes. It seems Warrior is one of the few jobs where SE has a clear focus on what should be done and is transparent about how to do it. We deal damage and sometimes take damage in the process through melee weapons. We don't heal ourselves through meditative tantric stances. We don't know martial arts. We're not sneaky. We don't have livestock floating around our heads or following us on the ground. We don't use mp to do mp things. We're not knights in shining armor. We don't have emotional problems causing us to build up large amounts of hatred which we unleash. We are the westernized version of the Samurai, but they are still different because of their mental training. We're pure physical DD. Nothing more than that. Enhancing our ability to dole out physical damage is the right direction, even if it's just by a little bit.

My favorite part of Warrior was the simplicity of the concept. Do damage. That's all there was to it. You do damage to kill things as fast as possible, and you do damage to make sure something pays attention to you to keep it from hitting someone else. Tanking and dealing damage intertwined. If I were still playing, and we didn't get Retaliation and weren't up for this proposed ability I'd still be happy to be main Warrior. Of course, and don't get me wrong, Retaliation is awesome (on paper for me, of course), and the few times you need Piercing or Blunt this new ability will be great as well, but it doesn't change the job. Just makes it sweeter.

Simple job to get into, not super difficult to figure out, and enough finesse to master. The job was right straight out of the box. The additions are just icing.

Oh it's amazing on paper AND in practice, I promise. The following is a quote from someone recently on alla, I forget who, but it stuck in my mind.

Quote:
Oh Chloris, you used Hundred Fists. That's so cute. Trust me, this is gonna hurt you a LOT more than it hurts me.

Speaking on war in general, we've come full circle back to war/mnk being a beast of a tank, and while we do have a few new toys it is in essence the same war/mnk goodness we knew from ye olden days.

**** it feels good to be a gangstawarrior.

Retaliation fits perfectly with WAR philosophy. It's not even close to a defensive move. It just makes you getting thwacked very enjoyable and can be abused to kick the snot out of mobs with multiple, weak attacks that **** off shadow users.

I leveled WAR over other DDs like DRG, MNK, DRK because all the mainjob WARs on the game and on this forum seemed so chill with everything while other DDs always had to prove everything to anyone within earshot. The job makes me wish I had spent less time mucking around with mages and cut straight to the WAR chase a few years earlier so I could have been one of those guys instead of just someone who has WAR as yet another 90.

I leveled WAR because I had SO MUCH FUN smashing things in the head with a great axe while I was leveling it as a sub for PUP. SCH is a versatile mage, PUP is a somewhat complex job that has many uses, from DD to soloing to even nuking. WAR just smashes things, fast. And it's really satisfactory to do so.

Magnifique!!!

My first job wasn't a thief..oh that was such a relief. Nor was it a monk..or even a mage who uses his club to bonk.

Heavens no ..a ranger? I don't like being far away from danger. A ninja... a paladin..or even a wee dark knight. Those certainly don't signify might.

What was it you ask? It twas a warrior.. it is nothing but the best. All the mobs in the zone.. they know they're going to rest. A Great Axe.. does not simply enhance you..oh no..not nothing more in the least. It does that and more..to turn one into a beast!

To the mobs who dare to ruin our day...to you this I shall say..hey hey ho ho ...a here we go.. we shall come to you to SLAY!

Warriors= awesome nuff said lol

Anywho to be on topic... I rather like that they're staying with the simple concept of " Warrior do damage..Warrior do lots of damage".

One of these days I'm going to make myself log in, if only for a little bit. Just to poke around a little and smash things the way I used to.

Of course to do that I'll have to undergo the arduous task of reinstalling the entire game from scratch... does it still take forever and a day to download and install the updates?

I wouldn't call it breaking a sweat per se, but when Restraint was released there was lots of general scoffing about giving up our critical hits for anything. And then the ability got patched very quickly. WAR love continues unabated.

There's nothing emotionally pent up behind going berserk. Warriors go berserk because smashing faces is fun, and going berserk means smashing more faces and smashing them harder. There's no logical reason for a warrior not to go berserk.
