Is it still the gold standard of /nin?
I was thinking monk might be good. Counterstance in conjunction with retaliation. Do they even work together?
/sam has some appeal but I already have regain atmas.
/dnc only worthwhile for solo im assuming.

Counterstance prevents Retaliation, typically if I'm on war I'm trying to proc weakness and /sam helps with that (unless you need dagger procs), you shouldn't be using regain atmas aside from VV for most things. Also if I'm not getting completely destroyed from melee hits Hasso increases WS damage (barely) and DPS, and even with VV you'll find your xhit lacking without storetp with the lower delay Great Axes.
/Nin is good for annoying NMs like Dragua and Apademak, screw enstun seriously.

/NIN /SAM /DNC and /ABSOLUTELYNOTTHF seems to still be the way to go.

Situational and depends on build, merits and how much support you have. /SAM for 2Handed weapon users, NIN for Axe, Sword, Gaxe (cause nothing preventing from using two handed weapons on /NIN). /DRG situational ( for fun more than anything else, /DNC (solo at least that's what my experience is with /DNC).

/Sam is what I find myself using most since Abyssea when tanking, DDing or triggering "!!" weaknesses, with the healers having asmuch refresh & enmity down as they currently do, damage mitigation comes in a distant second to killing stuff faster.
You'll still want /nin sub leveled for tanking the odd "pain in the arse" NM (Manananggal, I'm looking at you) that likes nothing more than eating your face, but you'll find yourself subbing it alot less than back in the day.
/Dnc as always is useful for solo stuff.

/NIN if you absolutely need shadows or Cyclone/Energy Drain. /SAM still works out to be best 95% of the time though, at least for me.
Why the hell would you go /drg? Jumps and accuracy bonus?

Being capped without it is kind of a problem for /Drg. The earring just isn't necessary anymore.
I find I'm still usually /nin. I can't get enough Cure's normally to survive without shadows and a nice regen atma...unfortunately. Draw your own conclusions about what that means - you'll be right.

Aside from the above it probably means you're in a PUG and can't trust your healers, as those are the times I don't get enough cures and would consider /Nin (or even haste...)

Er worded that badly. Can't retaliate if you counter and counter gives no TP. I'd prefer to Retaliate especially with Af3 feet (Assuming I can withstand the hits) but that's just me, as for CS tanking I haven't tried it personally; it looks good on paper but without GH/RL I don't think it's worth it.

This, exactly. /NIN for dagger red procs and /SAM for everything else. Never any need to /NIN or anything else these days, even /DRG has lost a lot of it's luster with how easily we can cap haste.

Pretty much everything these guys posted but I will add one little tidbit.
I prefer subbing SAM for the Offense/Defense but I find that I dont use Meditate as much as I used to. When Im in abyssea, Im mostly called out for procs before face eating so I just use RR/VV/Sundering Slash. This combo gives me most of my DD power and 5% Regain (100 TP every 60 Seconds) Which is nice for storing TP without the need of a side mob or hurting that fragile NM even more trying to get TP lol. If your just out xping, go all out w/e your favorite DD set is, but NM hunting? I personally find this to be the most tactical solution.
ON A SIDE NOTE:
These guys said everything any WAR would say basically however.
with SAM sub you get all the Offense but will more than likely have to bring your own sneak tools. Idk about you guys, but running through several stacks of Powders/Oils adds up and some groups arent too happy when we go digging through Gold-Boxes.
With NIN sub, and RR/VV/Sundering Slash giving you constant TP on 2-handed weapons, you get some defense and a much larger supply of Sneak/Invis.
Can also sub DNC and get some healing power and sneak/invis for free with that said combo.
