Atma Melee CombinationFollow

So many people say that the VV + RR is the "best" combination. (Most of us still only at 2 Atma) I have never been the best at FFXI "math" so help me out.

While I think we can all agree the RR is definatly going to be one of the your top choices, is VV really better then Stout Arm? i.e.

50 Str 5 DA 2 Regain vrs 40 Str 50 Attack 50 RA (we will ignore RA)

So basically we have

10 Str (which is equal to 5 attack) 5 DA 2 Regain vrs 45 Attack

Assuming no buffs (no Brd or Cor) but haste.

It would seem pretty close but 45 attack is pretty signifcant and 10 Str (especially sice most War's are going to be talking about 160 vs 170) just does not seem that impresive.

Now the 2 Regain is intersting for thos of us using Atlas+2 because of the tweaked delay.

It seems like a close call, but wanted to see what people thought.

I am guning for 7 zone wins so I can have my third atma, then I will just use both!

Well you have to take count of the WS frequency. Also there's time when you "don't hit" and those time favour Regain. Further more, when you Crit (a lot thx to RR) you're probably in caped pDIF situation by now and so more atk don't do anything. STR will, even in caped fSTR situation it will still be taken for WS MOD calculation.

I used to try and convinced me with heavy math and I still do but with the current game in constant evolving I pulled back a bit. And there's a 3rd lunar abyssite not so far and new atma like the Alpha and Omega that's is maybe far from being insane but still offer some nice stats (especially for me that still haven't RR >.<)

I typically use RR + VV (and will likely use Stronghold, Cloak & Dagger, or Alpha & Omega as my 3rd when I do get it.)

This is even a discussion?

50STR > 40STR

5DA > 50Atk

2Regain > nothing(since RA is worthless)

Pretty obvious on every job, even on Monk I'd take this over SA.


Now the new discussion will be A&O vs others because +Triple Attack is insane.

atma of the sea daughter, 5tp/tic, 5%slow, enhance snapshot.

obviously, 5%slow is bleh. snapshot has no point. but 5tp/tic could let you drop a hit. you could go from a 6 hit to a 5 or possibly lower depending on haste. i played with it a little and if you arent constantly fighting, its nice to build tp between mobs. how does this stack up with other atmas?

Slow is horrible, only good for proc'ing red/blue. For actually dealing damage it's unfortunately inferior to any decent option.

C&D was reportedly 30 accuracy and evasion and is, unfortunately, also useless, War doesn't evade and accuracy is a non issue with any decently skilled up weapon. Alpha and Omega is looking like a very good option, it's supposedly done wonders for 1 hit Gekko, 2 hit Jinpu and 3 hit Rana, stackign it on top of RR + VV could make for our best melee combination.

In which case the best setup might be RR + VV + Apocalypse (Shinryu fight) for pure damage dealing.
