So I read the Twitter, because I had nothing better to do at the moment.
Twitter wrote:
WAR: May get an ability allowing them to tank for a short period of time enhancing their versatility in parties.
First note the underlined word. Generally that word is used by Square to mean "Ha, we really don't have anything planned, but want to make you think we do so you don't get **** that we ignored your job of choice." All I could think was "Hey, after eight years Square still doesn't seem to know a thing about Warrior." I mean, seriously. I don't know about any of you, but I was always perfectly capable of tanking for short periods of time. Hell, I could tank long periods of time with sub par gear, but it had more to do with support and cure nuking than anything.

It does make me interested on exactly what they'd add, though I doubt it'll be anything spectacular. Something silly like Provoke II, I'm betting. Just hoping its something 50+.

I think a Defender type ability is what will make us better Tanks.
We have no problem building and keeping hate.
It has to be a dmg - ability.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a native CE hate tool or native damage mitigation (defender does not count).

Well, I'm excited... which probably means I'm only setting myself up to be let down but let's put that aside for a moment.

I wonder if WAR/MNK will make a come back. I really miss the days of counter-tanking mandies in the jungles with a heaving GA.

I really don't see innin being enough for a reason for me ever to choose being /NIN over situations where I don't already need to be /NIN... I'm hoping some magic happens and we have situational uses for other SJ... /MNK I'm looking at you.

A really powerful % damage cut ability that runs like Defender or something similar combined with Retaliation would be the perfect tanking tool.

I just realized lolgaxe made this thread 2 mins before my own got posted. Touche batman. Touche.

I think the key phrase to look out here for is "Tank for a short period of time". Also, given the pattern of how Warrior job abilities are I think it's safe to assume some sort of trade-off will be involved. Defender should be this but loldefense.

If I had to guess it'd be something similar to the way Seigan+Third Eye works; in that it lasts a short period of time, but it's still useful nevertheless.

It probably won't happen but I'd try it out anyway just so I could pop Counterstance+Retaliation and watch my character twitch like he's having a seizure.

For WAR to be a more effective end game tank well need to see some adjustments to shield and parry defensive abilities as well. WAR should be able to tank better than they can. I'd like to see more agro building abilities and enhancements to -DMG taken and increases to Parry and Shield ability.

anyone wonder just how big of a gap its going to be from an A+ skill to an A- skill? its only 7 skill points right now but with another 24 levels that gap may grow to 20-25 skill difference >.>

just imagine how big it will be for B- weapons compared to A+. bye bye polearm sam.

60 points between A+ and B, assuming the current leveling trends continue from 76 to 99.

LEt us not forget that base atributes will be higher too. The 2 handed bonus to DEX and STR might also **** dual wielding. Even if DW gets NINs DW3

It pretty much guarantees upcoming changes to the combat system.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read that announcement:

New TANKING ability: VIT and AGI are increased while STR and DEX are decreased."

10 bucks it will be the ares set, re-skinned to look like the hauby set. I'm not wearing it unless it has the blood of my foes on the shoulder spikes. And a never-ending beer in one of my hands (preferably both hands). I guess a beer helmet could work too, but that might be too much to ask for.

Also, instead of when mobs get within range and play the battle music. They need to make it so my theme song plays whenever I get near someone.

My Galka looks hot in every colour but best naked... if WAR AF3 is anything like AF1/AF2 then I'm also just as effective naked /sigh
