I'd like Zune more if it had more space. I currently have the 160gig model, and I'm happy it lets me take a third of my mp3s with me on long trips. I put it on random and its like Geek Radio.

the zune hardware already lets you connect to a network and use the zune store to find anything you want and stream directly to your player. If they would use 3G (I don't know if they do) WITH the zune pass (they should) AND the auto DJ, then it would be godly.

If you need 480 gigs of music and it's all not in a lossless format or something though, I question that youve actually listened to all of those tracks... :p That aside, there are some devices that can carry that much, but they blurr the line between portable media device and PC lol.

Mney, question

I don't know how often you listen to yndi halda or specifically 'a song for starlit beaches' but it always puts me in a very lovey dovey romantic mood. does it do the same for you?

I'll get back to you on that question in a bit red, haven't listened to it in a while. I've been listening to a lot of modest mouse/ silversun pickups/ mgmt lately though... so it would go along with that mellow-ish feel.

Also... little chubby? That's borderline perfect... I like em soft.

what is that? give me recommendations! LETS BE BFFFF

and I can lay down and just listen to yndi and get so absorbed into it, that's why i asked (and... you seem to be the only person here that enjoyed the songs lol)

i can look at things pretty objectively, so I can point out little things like that lol. i've a strong feeling that below the boobs is pretty chubby, the belly doesn't get thin at all from what I'm looking at. the picture conveniently cuts off where you could say without much doubt its yes/no for chubby. too big for me tbh.

@ redshift... I'm a pretty big fan of silversun pickups. Carnavas is an amazing album. Not just for lazy eye, but for well thought out twinkles, little lovers so polite, melatonin, rusted wheel, common reactor... **** I don't think i dislike one song on the album. They do some good distortion soundscaping. The singer and songs like three seed make them sound kind of like smashing pumpkins. Only recently got really popular with panic switch which you may have heard... new album i've only given a couple spins so far.. it's okay.

Modest mouse is a very good indie group with a lot of material.. MGMT I am just getting into.

silversun pickups sounds familiar... maybe from the radio? I hardly listen to the radio so thats why i ask. i will definitely give that album a listen to.

Modest mouse? the name sounds awesome enough to give it a listen! ironically, thats how I found out the band "this will destroy you" had to hear what they sounded like rofl.

the only issue i have is trying to download stuff... my internet has HORRIBLE packet loss %, sometimes up to around 40-50% packets lost and downloads just cut off and stop.

Been listening to some mogwai lately, songs haunted by a freak and killing all the flies are my favourite so far.

I like it because it is like carrying a cell phone from the early 90's. Honestly I'm just too poor to upgrade, though the great thing about zune is they always upgrade the firmware to do what the new ones can.

A cheapo 1GB one that only cost me about £10. It's the sort of thing I can afford to take around and on the off-chance it gets nicked, well, enjoy a £10 MP3 player with death metal on it, ************.

It's actually really good, and the only reason I don't have several of them is because the manufacturer no longer makes them. Oh well.

nice, i heard good things about zune these days. they've stepped up quite a bit in all departments on newer players

for me, im **** about sound (huge difference for instrumental and classical, which i <3) so i opt for cowon players. i was looking at the cowon i9 as a replacement to my 2 year old cowon D2, but i just need good music rather than fashion tbh. not to mention, the D2 has 50-60hrs of battery life for music while i9 is half that. and D2 has an SDHC slot, which is SO USEFUL. if you're looking to get most sound settings, loudest, highest quality and most formats (ogg, flac <3); its them. unfortunately their UI sucks thought they're getting better at it lol, but it's a sacrifice i dont care about.

and actually, I recently got sennheiser cx500 buds; they're soooo good for the price. one thing i love is noticing the subtleties in music that tend to go unnoticed, and these buds make everything stand out and you'll hear music things you wouldn't notice otherwise

Classic iPod with the 160gb drive. Excessive, certainly, but I like not having to reload new albums onto it every few weeks because I'd heard everything on it.

Nevermind the fact I usually find one song I really really like and listen to that incessantly until I'm sick of it. Currently: Kanpekigu~no ne from Fairy Tail.

Funny you mention buds. I have been using the crappy buds that came with my Zune and they finally broke. I am looking at getting this brand and these buds off of a recommendations because they have a nice case like Shures and have really great reviews. I really want to step up to IEM's because of their quaity, but I don't want to spend money on goodShures. So I think this is a good medium... I don't think i can wait to see if ppl get them for me for christmas though...

I like zune because of their subscription plan, and their social. The social is awesome because I can friend like-minded listeners, and sync them with my zune. Every time I sync my zune, I get their favorites, recently listened-to tracks and top artists updated so I can listed to their stuff. I can also get to marketplace in any hotspot... download any music I want (as long as the marketplace has it (i.e. not-metallica type) and it won't go into my collection unless I tell it to put it in my collection when I sync it again. They have a smart dj (like itune's genius) except that with the subscripion, you can get them to build playlists off of stuff you don't even have so you can find new music a-la pandora/last.fm, etc.

I have any track available to me to keep as long as I pay the subscription... In addition to that, it is only 15 bucks... you get 10 track credits a month to keep whatever you want (the actual mp3), so it's like paying 5 bucks for all that.

Plus I can stream it as a network service to my xbox and have access to all the drm tracks, playlists etc. on my GOOD stereo downstairs to entertain and while playing stuff like 1 vs. 100 and arcade stuff that doesn't need sound (including ffxi) <3

Ok im done lol... right now, listening to Tonic. <3

i wouldn't pay to buy mp3/aac files personally, just isn't good with instrumental and classical where clarity is key. i absolutely cant stand listening to yndi on youtube, it just sounds SO BAD. and sure, i download music and listen like everyone else. but i always buy the cds to my favourites and keep the tracks on ogg in my player.

i had sennheiser cx300 buds and they lasted me a long time and i was pretty happy with them. so i got their cx500 buds as a replacement. i'd look into it since only the really expensive buds are better and they retail for only like 60-80 bucks. just look out for fakes if you decide on them, they look nearly identical in every way except they suck

If you need your music in near lossless, yeah it's not that great... but zune seems to load at the very least in 256 bitrate (I think) so it's not bad by any means, pretty large files. Once I get not crappy headphones I'll have to buy some classical on CD and stream it in the marketplace and compare. I have a really nice stereo in my car b/c i'm an audiophile, but never splurged on other portable audio because I spend most of my listening time in my car.

And any way you look at it, it's still a pretty good deal.

Edit:

Just curious, how did you come to finding those audio players? The custom EQ and sound settings look pretty advanced kind of like my car receiver. I really hope that they continue to improve other players on that front. Zune has some EQ settings but they are preset.

oh man, i love blarring music in the car. the stock speakers on the our 05 accord is awesome. i know the feeling rofl

in HS my friend told me (to be fair, he's pretty loud so he shouted more than talked rofl) about cowon having great sound and all. he was very "passionate" about his music and didn't shut up about it during lunch. so i picked up the iaudio x5 4 or 5 years ago and it still has some of the best sound settings and quality compared to popular players today. but to be fair... their UI isn't very intuitive and gets annoying sometimes

sound setting wise, it's pretty pimp. BBE+, mach3bass, 3d surround, stereo enhance, mp enhance on/off and custom EQ (with presets too). it doesn't get any flashier than that lol. they also have the first AMOLED screen player, i never watch videos on tiny screens so i never bothered with it.

I kind of want one of those players, but I can't keep my zune subscription files and use them on that, or have any of what I mentioned... so I'm a total addict. :p Kind of wish everyone didn't have their own ******* file type.

Well, you consider the "product" to be the player only.If I had an ipod, i'd ditch it in a second for that player. Zune has the incredible services and social that just knock it out of the park. I haven't seen anyone touch that model on a player integration level. That's really what I want.

It really does depend on what you value more from a player. The zune services you mentioned do sound really really good... Would save me a lot of time, but at the same time I like to sometimes dabble out of what I usually listen to. So similar interests help to find other artists that play something I definitely enjoy, but in finding new sounds* is still up to you to explore!

And I haven't seen many HDD players come out either, seems like everyone is moving away from that kind of storage.

*I mean this in the sense of, if you like a lot of rock (example), you might also like some electronica (example) that you would never find using a service (last.fm, even though I use this too lol) because it bases off your current interests. So there is always room for personal exploration

COHEED AND CAMBRIA NEW ALBUM OUT IN APRIL + BOOK!!!!

I am listenting to all of the albums again trying to catch up with the narrative and known story so far... The lyrics are so cryptic (it's hard to tell whose perspective the song or part of a song takes), but with his comics and interviews people have figured out a lot about the whole picture. It's a pretty epic, sad story.

Yeah, I was wondering the same. Carnavas kind of prepped them for popularity, and the new album has higher production values. The video lolgaxe linked is awesome. Here is the song that really set them off... so chill. Unfortunately they always play a 4 minute version live, I can't find the album version which is around 6-7 mins, and keeps the mood a little longer.

They really do a LOT of sound manipulation... youtube doesn't do them justice at all.

By the way Red... what is that site you linked... it has no music on it >.> It has like 6 people I've never heard of that do like ambient and electronic.

i liked that video lolaxe linked and the song was pretty good too. keyboard was a nice touch in the song i think, liked that. and i thought the sound on youtube wasn't even that bad tbh, but if you say it's better than that, ill just have to listen to it again! what other songs do they have that are good?

if you like sound manipulation, drove through ghosts by 65 days of static @#%^s with the tempo of the song just slightly enough that you might not notice and think it sounds trippy, but if you notice then you'll think it goes really well to set the atmosphere at the beginning. and 13 angels by ASMZ is pretty out there with too, it feels "linear" but if you really sit down and listen, it changes and climax's with subtle manipulation of where the sound is coming from. it pans back and forth more violently at climax

you have to click on database. people upload albums to rapidshare, mediafire and all those jazzy sites for sharing. i always used sordo (because of similar interests in music there) and what.cd, buu i cant remember my friends what.cd info >.>

I don't download or upload music anymore. I use my subscription, so I can't link you to a fileshare site.

Other silversun songs I really like:

- Melatonin
- Well thought out twinkles is probably my favorite song off carnavas. So awesome to listen to really loud.
- Little Lovers So Polite

I just listened to the album 3 more times lol... I could list them all. If you like those, try Rusted Wheel. Its a little different but also a favorite of mine.

I mostly download anime and game music, since its next to impossible to legally purchase and I'm seriously not going to pay extra for shipping fees for maybe one or two songs on a fifty~sixty dollar batch of compact discs.

Oh, and Metallica because I ******* hate Lars Ulrich.

I haven't played this game since last summer and **** near forgot about it, recently I've been lurking on the forums though because I suddenly became curious to see what's changed. Is it really true? Did SE finally hire competent people? Most of the new gear they release actually seem awesome and not at all useless! People even seem satisefied for the most part, is this some twilight zone version of FFXI? ****, I think I might start playing again... :)

Anyway, I was listening to this song and it reminded me of this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y96q-Ng3b7U

Also, discovered a brilliant band named Omega Massif a while ago. Not warrior related but their stuff is incredible and deserves to be spread to more people so I'm posting it wherever I can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls2uMKufmP4
