war/nin > war/mnk to 75?Follow
So I was talking to my LS and they told me as a War/Mnk it will be very hard to get parties from 50-75 compared to a war/nin. I don't really see how /nin is better until 74+. After your six shadows seems like /mnk would be less of a paper weight, sure the shadows would be nice for pulling or to save the whm some extra mp if you pull hate and aren't a extra tank for sata. Can someone set me stright so cause I can't seem to see how /nin is better atm..

If indeed you're serious, think of it this way:
You WILL take hate from the main tank.. well, if you're geared properly, that is. In my [admittedly limited] experience not main-tanking, the most you'll generally be tanking for is 3-6 hits. The tank will either regain hate, or the mob will be dead by then.
So a war/nin taking hate for 3-6 hits will take NO DAMAGE. Your war/mnk will take 300-600 dmg, more or less. And that will probably happen every fight, if not every 2-3.
You basically get "room for error" with /nin.
Besides, two war/nin make a @#%^ing awesome tank setup, so that alone is reason enough to bring /nin.

OP: You're also making the flawed assumption that MNK brings a lot to the table. For damage mitigation it only brings Counter and a small amount of HP/VIT, neither of which can rival well-used shadows (which are also much more consistent than Counter). Meh was just wondering why I couldn't take war/mnk to 75 hate to level nin to 37, not cause i'm lazy as i know a lot of jobs need /nin just wanted to reach 75..enjoy it for a while etc. But I guess in the long run leveling /nin right now will be a plus, sorry for the post.
You'll want /nin and /sam and /dnc and maybe even /thf for your bare minimum subs for war. /nin should be a priority for groups so you dont have people hating on you.

You'll need the /NIN for survivability.
MNK isn't really the second best subjob either at later levels. WAR/SAM is superior.

/MNKs good to 40. Won't really matter, though. /NIN is a good sub to have for any front line job, since you're going to eventually fight things where the damage mitigation is going to be a worthwhile perk.

Well part of why I asked this is because I get party invites when there's no PLD around to be main tank and six shadows can only do so much. So, if I stacked a bunch of agi and vit gear...but I see what everyone is saying.
I wish I had taken /mnk to 50 in retrospect. I only took it to 30 (tanked jungles) and then stupidly SA'd Sturmwind for another 20 levels instead of being more awesome and using shield break and /mnk.
I wish I could do it all over again ; ; I made up for some of my grievous error by using GA on drk and doing that to 37... but my mnk is still 15.

Up to lvl 30, just about any DD can tank, or a duo tank. After lvl30, jobs start to specialise more, mob's hit a lot harder, and 'more' is needed.
Up to level 30 tho, its good for pty's to have maybe a little dnc, cor, and brd in the pty's if the main job's are not there.
/DNC can keep the pty Drain Samba'd
/COR can get a little extra exp from Cor's roll, then from 22-32, you can give a nice static acc boost.
/BRD for a minuet.
