Yay! Welcome back.

Umm accomplishment... Oh uh, I finally got around to knocking out some Maat's I need for the cap. WAR was fun, didn't bother sleeping TP. I ran in, missed him once, got kicked in the face TWICE and then was just like you know what, fuck this shit! Mighty Strikes/Icarus Wing/Warrior's Charge and smashed his face in with King's Justice.

Plug-ins? Windows7?

I moved servers today. Back on Phoenix! Where I'm struggling to decide if I should get Zahak's Mail for my drg, or Dusk Boots+1 for my aggressor up set.

Oh, that's a new one to me D:
I have Aurum, but my aggressor up set still has, like, a bajillion more accuracy than I need for most mobs, and I've already swapped my acc ring to blitz. Or I could augment 30-something pairs of dusk gloves and hope to get +2 dex on them for the magical 117 dex number for TP and then create a new dilema by going "ugh do I swap 1% haste for capped crits Q_Q!"

edit - wait, @#%^, do I have 115 dex in tp set anymore? CAN'T REMEMBER.

edit edit - see kids, this is where min-maxing gets you, you start stressing over the most meaningless sh*t when the real answer is "spend your money on cor you'll never use war again that way and have a pirate hat". @#%^ yeah pirate hats. I think I know what I'm doing.

I hardly bought stuff to min/max sets, I horde gil forever because you NEED gil to make gil; no one seems to get this... I didn't buy a cuch until I had 30m on me because I didn't want to be strapped for cash on crafting. And even then I sold it about a month later.

Sure it does. I mean, in the end... everything relates to the probability that the designer has coded. But if say... someone crafts dusk gloves +1 even a couple times in less than 100 synths... they got lucky. I use this example for obvious reasons to show bias and motive for the original statement. :p

Ohai. Got a puppy for xmas! taking up all my free time ; ;

Oh, I also got a Nagelring in game, so i HAVE to level drk now... because I think Nagelring is about the most kickass weapon design in the game.

And everyone has the same probability (day, moon and temperature in your basement don't mean anything) to make dusk gloves +1, but only a few bother to make them. The people that do make them seem to pretty well off, so what is it? Nothing

What do you base that statement on? I know quite a few people who have lost a LOT of gil trying for +1's that they never ended up getting. You have just had better luck at it. Plus, you just didn't start up by being able to synth 30 dusk gloves in a row either. One of the reasons I've been too lazy to worry about it. A) that much gil certainly isn't needed and B) I'd just get frustrated trying to get to the point where I could tip the odds in my favor to craft that much.

You make it seem like I made gil over night. I've been making gil since I started playing years and years ago. I've had my bad days (a lot of them but I always have gil to cushion the fall), breaks, HQs and NQs. You're applying real world attributes to a game, it doesn't care if you're 1/1000 or 1/1 on some synth, you still have the same chance as everyone else.

You act as if luck is a real thing. You choose to believe in luck or not. But if you choose to believe in luck, then it applies for all things in life. If you look at the definition of luck
you will see that it is a trend of circumstances, not a probability.

Im precisely saying you didn't make gil overnight. But you did have a lot of luck in the end making gil. It took you a long time of building up a large amount of gil so that you could throw enough synths at something to improve your odds. Lets look at those by the way...

Mats on Caitsith are ~630k for 1 synth. Average sale is around 20,000,000 across servers. It would take you 32 synths to spend 20,000,000 on synthing dusk gloves. Probability on a tier 0 synth means that you should have to see what, 95? synths before seeing 1 dusk gloves +1? so thats a total of aroud 60,000,000 spent to earn 20,000,000... or a 40 mil loss.

If "people" seem to make a lot of money off of this, it is because they have better luck with probability than people who don't. I could just as easily be poor doing the same thing, which is why I choose to not do it and just not care about having that much gil on me.

(yes I realize you can make around 5 mil back slowly selling gloves back every 32 synths... but you get the point)

It's not 1/95, it's closer to 1/30~40. You don't see many people making Dusk Gloves because they can't afford the risk (they usually risk it anyway, big mistake 34/35 of the time), the market sucks (right now) or they're afraid of taking the risk (you thinking it's 1/95 is exactly this). It has nothing to do with who's lucky or who isn't because in the end it averages out the same for everyone. I don't have some holy grail power over syntheses and no one else does. I went 1/20~ on the T1 for my lolMDB set on WAR. I started making gil from SH+1 (and before then, Shade+1 gear, and before then camping VE), I honestly didn't make much out of it after accounting for breaks and NQs. But did it work better than farming? Yes. Was it more fun than farming? I <3 number games

Which is why, it would be illogical to believe in 'luck' in a game, that was 100% based, designed, coded and programmed on mathematical probabilities.

On the other hand, I agree you can have luck IN probability.

Using Dusk Gloves+1 as an example. Say the probability is 1/100 to Hq.

Redshift Gets HQ on his first synth. 1/1

LordMmementh Get's his HQ on the hundreth synth. 1/100.

They both had the same probability, of 1/100, but wouldn't you say it was lucky that Redshifts HQ came on the first synth?

Now... Having said that, I'll jump back on the other side of the argument. Luck can only be applied, when the playing fields are unequal. Redshift getting an HQ on his first synth, would not be considered lucky, if he proceeded the next 99 synths anyways. Because in the end, they both synthed 100 times, and they both hq'd once. Having the HQ come sooner, rather than later, would only be considered lucky, if you are stopping once you get the HQ.

But I'm just arguing to argue, cuz these Place Holders have 15 min repop...

How do you explain that a tier 0 synth has a 1/30 chance? Even then, it's still breakeven at best. You have to be lucky to truly make gil. The risk is a big factor. Some people (myself included) would like to do something slow and steady and still be well off, than take huge risks that are more likely to fail than succeed. Gambling is a problem :p

Also, he's still lucky. I say that because its true and it appears to piss him off :D

Everyones' chances are EXACTLY the same to HQ/NQ/break.

You can't say that about real life but you most definitely can in this game. Thinking someone else is more lucky than you is stupid because you haven't even tried. It's not luck, it's your willingness to take the chance when the market is favourable, comparable loss is low and potential profit is high. Otherwise you willingly give up your opportunity to make gil.

When your bank >>> potential loss, then risk becomes irrelevant because everyone's chance are the same and you've minimized the impact on your bank if you break or NQ. Now, the only thing that matters at this point is profitability.

And the market right now sucks for dusk gloves, I doubt I'd get into it if I played.

You aren't more lucky than me. You are just lucky. You seem to be missing the point to make another one.

Edit: Also, what my original point was is that it took you a LONG TIME to make the gil you needed. When you have gil, you act like everyone else should have done what you did (i.e. your comment about "refusing gil" lol)

I've looked at that path and decided it isn't a good one to take anymore. It takes a sh*tload of time to build that... Right now, I would retardedly have to level another craft to 100, (total loss if I want to do it in a timely manner) to begin to even BUILD that profit so that I can whittle away at STARTING to get to the point where I can take that chance. All while not actually being able to play the game because I am being some tightwad to amass a fortune to blow it all on chance. When you are able to synth in bulk like that, your potential increases, so if you get LUCKY (synthing 2 very close to eachother... synthing 1 HQ when you haven't done all that many synths) then you are better off than someone else because of your LUCK OF THE DRAW... GET IT?!?!?! :P

Just a little something to support Red's idea of "you need gil to make gil".

This is what's been happening for me in the past week.

I started with an initial gil amount of about 2M.
I bought a Terra's, Vulcan's, and Hedgehog Bomb for 1.6M. I sold them for 2.15M.
I bought a Kirin's Osode for 2M, sold for 2.2M.
Bought a White Tathlum for 2.1M, sold for 2.5M.
Sold Hauberk+1 for 1.9M, bought back for 1.7M.
Just bought another Osode for 2M which I plan to sell at 2.2M.

So as you see, I made about 1.3M from an initial investment of 2M. You just need gil for investment, and patience to sell them.

When you see a good deal (i.e., someone quitting or needs gil asap for a salvage body [don't get into these situations, you always lose]), you need gil then and there to take advantage of the opportunity, like you just have. I'm happy you made a handsome profit. Now the real question is what are you going to do with it? =)

Something to remember to help you keeping up a bank/saving/making the green; in ffxi, but not life, very few things I'd consider actually essential buys, the rest are just wants and they can wait.

ENILANERDA, WHY DO YOU NOT POST MORE? IS IT BECAUSE I'VE GOTTEN FAT?

At the same time, having an exorbitant amouint of gil is not a need, its a want. Goes both ways. I practice restraint irl, i don't need to do that in game to be happy.

Did you plan all that? Those seem like everyday things that happened and made you gil. Also how did you find those deals>? how much time did you spend researching before you made them? All of these are consideration to determine if it was really a good idea.

I can walk in and buy a lottery ticekt and walk out with 10 bucks. Doesn't mean it happens every time, or as quickly.

WITH THE ATTITUDE OF FAILURE, YOU WILL NEVER SUCCEED*

THE END

*if you can think of 2 million reasons why something doesn't work, why it won't happen to you, why it's unlikely to happen to you, convince yourself there's too much work involved and/or convince yourself it's pointless to try before you actually even try, you're worse than a failure because a failure has learned a lesson that will help next time and you have learned nothing and done nothing. coming from an overly analytical pessimistic butthole, TAKE A CHANCE

Pretty sure spending all of my free time (read: most of the day) going between Port Jeuno/Sauromogue Mart and Whitegate to listen to shouts counts as effort to make gil?

Im not thinking of reasons not to take a chance, I just don't want to. I'm explaining my reasons why I think your (seemingly intense) drive to tell people to take chances is silly. (I.E. just because it worked for you and maybe a handfull of other people I know)

There WAS a lot of work involved in what you did to make your CHANCE amounts of gil. There was also a lot of work in what I did to make what I have and maintain a acceptable, workable and consistent level of gil that fits my needs.

Just because I choose not to potentially waste my time for FFXI gil does not make me a failure for not taking a chance. Try again.

Thats my point. It takes you a long time. It isn't as simple or quick as you make it out to be. It takes a good amount of time... time which can be spent doing other things as well.

#13 from House is smoking hot because of 2 reasons:

1: She is smokin hot anyway
2: Her character is a confident open bisexual.

again, more excuses.

are you trying to argue that you have never found yourself sitting in white gate, jeuno or any place where people do nothing... doing nothing? i find that hard to believe.

AND SHE IS NOT OPEN AND CONFIDENT AT ALL

she is the least open of the four in season 4. the fact that she is a bisexual only came up because foreman said she was, but she never fully denied or admitted it and only toyed with the idea while watching that soap with house and foreman.* anytime someone asks a personal question, she dodges them instinctively

last episode of that season she couldn't do anything and almost @#%^ed up because she was not confident in herself. everyone has fronts and hers was shown clear as day.

totally a bombshell regardless

i just finished watching season 4

*ok, i just watched the episode she does the other chick. A++
