This is a great idea, but my War is already 19. Have been using Greataxe since level 5 (and Neckchopper waiting for me in 3.6k xp). Also use Axe/Shield sometimes, but Axe skill has fallen way behind.

I see WAY too many Wars in the Dunes with either Sword/Shield or Greatsword (what's up with the GS?). A few even have 1 handed Sword and no Shield at all).

eh, I dunno.... its so crazy.....

I see lvl 30 WAR/ 11(or 10) NIN, so they basically decide to use their sub as an excuse to skip over Utseumi and just Dual Weild swords. I see G sword, Polearms, swords, anything you can imagine on a WAR... (but a staff and a club so far)

Sign me up, please. I told Quor I'd take his place on Bahamut since he's not going to be there to dish out the gaxes and *** kickings.

I posted this on the other Gaxe thread, but apparently that one's dead. I'm a monk who has loved xping with Wars cause we complement each other well. As such, I'm all for supporting my borthers in arms.

Sing me up for the GAxe challenge.

You can go ahead and toss me on for Midgardsormr. I can't promise I'll always be able to afford one ^^ but I'll at least try. Plus, I think I have a Moth Axe that just refuses to sell.

Now that I'm done standing on South Gustaberg rocks all day long, I'd love to help out. I've been handing out gaxes for a bit now on my own, but I'd be honored to become part of the GAC team.

Thanks,

Hi, Aramina. If you profile is accurate you're unfortunately too high a level to qualifty for the GA challenge. It's aimed at new players who maybe can't afford a GA, or don't want to sacrifice most of their cash to try a different weapon.

If you're really hard up for cash I could send you a moth axe or something for skilling it... I dunno what does the great axe challenge council think?

Pharazon, I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like Aramina was offering to mentor, not request an axe. Smiley: wink

Okay, I've been on this list for a long time now, and I have yet to receive a single GAxe request through it. Are people actually getting requests on on other servers? I see the occasional scattered post here asking, but by and large, it seems we have more mentors than we have requests. ... or is it just that Kujata is slow and all other mentors get regular request messages?

I've handed out a fair number of Great Axes to promising but uneducated warriors in-game, but other than that I'm not seeing any effect from this program. Now don't get me wrong, I think the challenge is great. Anything that helps WAR regain its lost respect is a worthy cause in my eyes. I'm just beginning to wonder if we're actually getting through, as the vast majority of new players have never even heard of Allakhazam, let alone the Great Axe Challenge...

Felt this needed a bump. I was once a sword swinging fool and am very glad for the folks that knocked some sense into me.

Edit: I'm fixing to have a spare Moth Axe laying around I'll be happy to donate to the cause. /t Balagos on Remora

I sent a request to Ranok on Fairy the other day and he offered to help, but would send the money when he had the chance for it. I'm guessing that SOME people use them, but as the other poster said...there are a TON of people who don't even know these boards exist.

BTW...put down Vaala for Fairy as well...I'll help out the cause. I'll be starting her tonight and turning my other char Arri into a mule. But I can help the cause a bit too :)

Updated, and to say how many people ive given out axes on Odin, 2. I'd keep this thread going if it was only 1 ever. As long as thats one less person using the wrong thing.

I'm just saying that maybe we need to extend this program a bit. Toss up that Mentor flag, stock up on axes, and head out in search of promising young warriors. Without actively seeking, I've handed out a grand total of 4 Greataxes now, and one of those was just someone I found because I'd outleveled MY axe.

Just offhand, I can think of two ways for people who want to reach out to do so.

1. For those with lots of time on the game. Schedule a regular (daily, weekly, monthly, whatever) time where you simply load up on various GAxes and start hunting for new warriors. How much and how long you do this doesn't matter. There's always new warriors, and very few will turn you down on a direct offer of a free weapon, especially if you talk about the weapon differences before making the offer.

2. Might work for those a bit shorter on time. Set aside a few slots in you inventory for some various levels of GAxes. One or two each of Butterfly, Hellfire, and possibly Greataxe, or however you want to do it. Then you can go about your business, just keeping your eyes open for new warriors as you go.

So, what do you think? Like I said, that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more (and better) ideas out there. Let's hear 'em.

I swear, every time I ask a question, this thread drifts off the bottom of the page. Whatever. I'm not playing much anymore and will probably be leaving FFXI altogether soon. But I've come to love the warrior job and the people here who play it, so I'd like to have this program continued on Kujata.

If anybody can carry the banner of the GreatAxe Challenge on Kujata, I've got enough gil stockpiled (thanks to Pikko) to finance the challenge for a long time, and THEN some. I obviously can't monitor what's done with it if I'm not around, so this will have to be honor-bound only. If anybody is willing to pick up the job of being Kujata's mentor, just let me know.

The reason i didn't respond to your ideas is, if the demand from this post was much higher, then it is (as sad as it is), i would not be able to handle it. I'm not at a level where i can just roam around with 10 great axes all the time and everytime i see a newb hand them one. If I could, I would.

Saw a n00b in S Gust yesterday with a G Sword. Coreccted him by buying him a G Axe and inviting him to the LS i'm in.

He gave the same response that a lot of people have once their told about Weapon grades G Axe being A+ and all that.

"Gah, how was I supposed to know that?!?!"

I'm low on Cash (bought NEckchopper recently and haven't farmed since) but once I get some mo money I'll hand them out. Theres quite a few new people now because of Christmas, so we should get them while they're young!
