Great sticky. Do you think it's possible to link the armor and equipment to the actual items on alla?

why Justice Badge??? Leather gorget is def +1 and cheaper at he AH (why do we need Mnd +3...we arent mages....) I am still using mine at lv 20 becuse NOONE has Scale gorgets, ther is one at the Bastok AH on ceberus but it is 6K and I didnt have the cash (I sold my swords and un-needed armor at the AH hoping that when they sell it will still be there...).

I'm fairly sure Justice is the one you can quest for.

I was gonna add all the links but for somereason when I do it under edit it moves the link to the bottom of the page. So it'd require a LOT of time. maybe this weekend though.

Buckhorn, Justice badge is mainly useful for soloing as a WAR/WHM from levels 7-15. The added MND helps in increasing potency of "Cure". Quest for it or buy it from the AH for 800 - 1k+ gil. Increased MND also gives a mild increase to spell resistance? << unsure

Isten, Enkelados's bracelets are very useful in a DD role IMHO. The big hit to DEX and AGI (DDs dont need it) can be overcome with other equipment. +7 STR is too good to pass up. My character profile:

TP gain DOES present a problem sometimes... fighting very high level mobs, lack of a BRD, mages not debuffing sufficiently, having a SAM or RNG as skillchain partner or using a great axe (slower TP than dual 1H Axes). In such instances, i'll swap back to R.K. Mufflers.

Zalakria, good idea on the equipment swap for Sneak Attack =)

First time reading through responses, thought I'd add one. Plus RSE stuff.

How come Mahogany Shield is listed at 20? Decurion's Shield should be there! +2 def compared to Mahogany. And an Elm Shield at 13? Why not just stick with Aspis?

For Ranged:

LVL6 Coarse Boomerang
LVL14 Boomerang

Coarse Boomerangs go for about 1k-3k depending on servers, so chances are you won't ever use one. Boomerangs aren't too expensive and are nice to have before waiting until 19.

--- RSE ---

This stuff has lower defense than the Centurion set, so keep that in mind. Also note that the point of RSE is to make up for what your class lacks in, except Humes since they're balanced. As such, Galka won't find a lot here, but Taru will.

I am trying to decide between the Lantern Shield (DEF 4, ATK +5) and the Decurian's Shield (DEF 6).

I'm a Mithra, so I like having as much DEF as possible, but the ATK bonus would also help. So, I'm not sure.

Also, a question about rings. I'm currently wearing a Courage/Stamina combo. Should I go full stamina as the party tank, or go full courage for the STR bonus?

Mostly because I'm a fool :P Problem solved. As for Elm it lets ya sell the Aspis for some gil and avoid jacknut PTs asking why you have "Old" gear.

LVL6 Coarse Boomerang
LVL14 Boomerang

For the most part unless the weapon gives you something spiffy I could care less :P Sure you can pick them up earlier to keep the skill up for pulling... but you don't have to hit to pull :P

Really since I'm hume all I know is Custom M. Glove = good stuff. Mostly for DD and SATA Partner though.

Latern Shield +5 ATK > 2DEF. Keep courage/stamina untill you can afford 2 of each would be my suggestion :P With 2 stamina your pushing into PLD territory, with 2 Courage your pushing into DRK, where do you want to be?

Hmm...I'd have to take issue with that. While most of the time you can miss a shot and still pull fine, often missing can be a major hassle. A missed pull only gives you very minor aggro, and if you have to pull past your mages resting (often the case when you are at a camp and have to pull from multiple directions), the mages wil l oftentimes get aggro from just sitting and healing, thus disrupting their healing and causing them potentially major damage. The the tank or subtank aren't overly bright and looking in the wrong direction, mages can take substatial damage and require large heals at the beginning of the battle that can seriously ***** up the aggro.

You should definitely level up your throwing/archery/marksmanship so that you don't miss too much on pulls.

Guys, having given it alot of thought and alot of research before I sank much money into it, I've decided not to go /nin for lvls 24-37 (I'm only interested in getting WAR to 37 right now). I've decided to go /thf, but with all I'm reading I can't figure out if I'm gonna need the Leaping Boots and Emp Pin to be all I can be as a DD 30+. Is this +dex and agi needed? Or would I be better off with the Centurion's set at that level? Any help would be appreciated.

stick with the cent set. the money you spend on emp hairpin and leaping boots could be better spent on a bunch of other HQ items in other slots that would help your performance much better than boots and pin could.

having said that, if you already have the boots and pin (i.e. youre a thf main) then yes, you can use them. they WILL help, but are by no means necessary.

if youre hume, think of getting some custom RSE gloves too. great DD item, like a spike necklace for your hands.

The new Eisen and Kampf gear should be added to the list. Here's some examples of the new gearcompared with some current choices.

Eisendiechlings Lev 29 Def: 17 Vit +1 Agi +1
Kampfdiechlings Lev 29 Def: 18 Vit +2 Agi +2
Centurion's Cuisses Lev 30 Def: 16 Agi +2

Eisenchaller Lev 29 Def: 13 Agi +1
Centurion's Visor Lev 30 Def: 12 Dex +1

Eisenhentzes Lev 29 Def: 9 Vit +1
Kampfhentzes Lev 29 Def: 10 Vit +2
Royal Squire's Mufflers Lev 30 Def: 8 Accuracy +2 (Tough call here. I like +ACC gear.)

Eisenschuhs Lev 29 Def:8 Vit +2
Centurion's Greaves Lev 30 Def:7 Agi +1

The Eisen line of armor is PLD/WAR only gear. Definitely all the +VIT would appeal to PLD. I think WAR/THF would benefit tremendously from some of these pieces.

You can't use a shield with a Great Axe; only when you're using a one-handed Axe.

I'm looking for opinions on DEX vs STR at my level (33WAR/16THF). After spending weeks farming and Smithing, waiting for certain members of my static party to catch up to me level-wise, I was able to pick up some pretty decent equipment.

Now, two nights ago, we finally commenced leveling. We settled on the Beetles in Altepa, which were all checking as VT or IT to us, and mixing in some VT - IT Antica every once in awhile. The EXP was great, and I was soundly outdamaging the BLM and MNK (granted, we were fighting Beetles) who were with me (and annoying the heck out of my Paladin buddy), but I noticed missing was hardly a problem. I'm wondering if maybe my DEX is a little overkill for my level, and I should try to snag some more STR instead, maybe with two Courage Rings. Am I seeing diminishing DEX returns at my level, and would a little more Strength be of more help to me?

This is just my opinion, but you definitely have plenty of DEX. I would think you could give up some DEX and drop in STR or VIT rings depending on situation. For more damage dealing, I would replace the two balance rings with courage rings. This would still leave you with +13 Dex and putting your STR at +12.

I notice the profile doesn't seem to add the Dex from the Pilferer's Earring. My profile is off by 2 in Dex as well.

P.S. That's some nice gear you have.

Thanks. I bought gear that catered solely towards being a DD simply because there's a very capable Paladin in my static. I miss tanking, though... I had more fun tanking with WAR/MNK than I did with PLD/WAR.

I actually sold my Emperor Hairpin last night, and I'm using the gil to help the Monk in our static buy Ochiude's Kote. Also made the switch over to Courage Rings from the Balance Rings, and tested out my new equipment setup briefly in Altepa - didn't notice a difference.

That Twicer was a friggin' rip at 150K though, if there's no way to recharge it...

For WAR/THF, which would be better?

Beetle Earrings +1 (+3att,-2eva) x2

Beetle Earring +1 and Pilferer's Earring (+2dex)

I go with the Pilferer's Earring/Beetle Earring +1 combo. Munching on Mithkabobs or Chiefkabobs already gives a nice % increase to attack, so I figure I'll get my +DEX where I can (using Courage Rings rather than Balance Rings).

I was thinking whether I should go Bravebelt or Warrior's...

Is the -1 dex noticeable?

Also, I currently have a Bastokan subligar which I used with my MNK. I'm 24 and was wondering if I should wait it out and use this or go for the Chain hose...

edit: -1 I mean ><

It depends. If you find you're primarily taking up the role of damage dealer in parties, I'd definitely go with the Brave Belt. I found +2 STR to be much more beneficial than +2 DEX at that level, and you're already using two Balance Rings, according to your profile, for a DEX bonus.

i third it. eisenschuhs are i believe def+8 and vit+2 (so another def+1 really). i think these are better than IM sollerets (def+10 rng acc+5?) if you don't worry about ranged accuracy at all (like i dont ^^;). only 1 less defense and you still get the raw vitality boost. i have the kampfschuhs for tanking (as mithra) and the +3 to vitality helps *immensely*. i may end up keeping them till i get my AF foot armor.

Warrior's has +3 Vit while Brave has +2. Brave traded 1 more Vit for 2 more Str and 1 less Dex.

I know that it's mostly common knowledge that Warrior's is for tanking while Brave is for DD, but does 1 more Vit actually have such an effect that Warrior's is considered a much better Tanking belt?

Are sniper rings really a luxury item?
Everytime i looked into a job it seemed that they were a must have. In my server they are above 600k. I was thinking of trying to quest the +3 acc ring once i do the promv missions. But I was wondering if I can really just go with 2 DEX or DEX and STR rings and not feel and looked gimped. Also I don't want to have a miss fest going on.
I started lvling war/nin and I dont know why but I really ended up enjoying it. (I always hated playing war not sure why)

Edit: I want to be a DD war not a tanking one ><

In my opinion, Sniper Rings are the optimal ring choice for warriors on the DD path. I have a Sniper Ring and a Venerer Ring that I use and combined with all my other gear as well as aggressor, I have easily over 50 accuracy. That allows me to hit quite often. If you equip yourself with strength rings and what not, you may hit harder but I don't think your total damage output will equal a warrior with accuracy rings.

Ummm.... Is there any reason that the neither the Eisen, nor the Kampf armor are on this?

I have the full Eisen set and it raises both vit and agi, both of which are very useful for war/nin. I am very happy with this lv 29 gear and will prolly keep it till lv 40 ish.

Am I wrong? Should I start my quest for the RSE?

They were added to the game after the guide came out, Would definitly be good to see them added in however as they are the best armor for tanking by far until about level 40.

As far as the RSE for Hume, As a warrior I think only one peice is of any value and even those (Custom Gloves) are only good for a DD

Also there is a good update list of equipment from 1-60 in this thread

I am a stubborn a$$ and I love the challenge of being busy, needing good timing etc etc as sensei Quor has stated in reference to war/nin pre-50. I also am a drummer so the timing thing is not an issue.

Hooooooowever. That Sarishi belt? Holy S#$@! 300k last time you checked? Wow even though Hades is a newer server the prices haven't been shy. 700k! <thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass>

I made a pt in yhaotor last night and #1 I found a whm. #2 I found a nin to bounce hate with. The rest was standard setup.
rdm/blm, blm/whm, thf/mnk and we were tearing through mandies like wrapping paper. No less than chain #3's, ever.

It seems as though war/nin can perform well enough providing the setup is proper, and unless you are an elitest, I cannot see why you would not get an invite as a pre-50 war/nin.

Back: Look onto the Knightly Mantle at 60. +4 vit for a tank.

Body: Assault Jerkin for the less financially set?

Ear: For the love of God, remove shell earrings. No one fights pugs at 11. Shield Earrings do work without MP. Make a note that Wrestler's earring ONLY works if you sub MONK. The 30's sets with those name ONLY WORK WITH PROPER SUBS. I don't know how many people i've told thier Trimmer's earring is worthless because They have to sub BST to activate it.

Ring: Remove Shell Ring. Pointless on every level. Add in the Woodsman's Ring and Toreador's ring.

Hands: Add in a few of the higher bracelets as optionals. Pallas, Alkyones, etc.

Ranged: Add in Lightning Bow at 55 and Rosenbogen at 70, if you like. I think they'd work nicely.

Nice work, and very appriciated.
The reason most players are "traditional" is because they also want to be successful. If other subjobs could be played successfully, they too would become traditional setups among the player base. If your aim is to be non-traditional, then the consequence is that you also won't be successful.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't looked too closely at the lower-level stuff, and forgot about the Bracelets. I'll add them in later.

I started a new thread.

You should add the 43 Swordbelt or the +1 variant to the list of Waist gear.
