I'm coming back to FFXI this weekend, after 4 years of inactivity.

Is BLM still the way to go, or has SE managed to cripple it beyond viability yet?

Abyssea revived BLM, and I believe is also useful in Voidwatch. Not sure about Legion and new Nyzul, but my guess is that BLM has a place in those two new endgame activities as well.

Abyssea and then VW revived BLM in a way, but the expectations are so low it hardly counts. Any naked BLM who can hit the magic procs in a somewhat timely fashion is given a pat on the back, regardless of how many stuns they miss, how little damage they contribute, or how poorly they coordinate with the rest of the mage line. So yeah, in that sense, BLM is a viable use of an alli slot or two.

This is very true. I haven't had the opportunity to play BLM in VW much. I did a few runs the other day on BLM and was actually complimented on my stuns. I kind of had to giggle at that because it seems so simple, yet it apparently isn't.

I will admit that I have to really concentrate on the chat log to see moves coming, but aside from proccing, isn't that my job? Smiley: smile

I get that it's tempting to get tunnel vision on procs, and truth be told, that will indeed increase the speed at which you hit them. But when a Death Prophet goes off twice per fight, what was the point of those NQ procs over those 5 now weakened DDs?

Speaking of which, that guy also said something to the effect of 'I will not participate in a phsyical AFK check, thus the notion of a physical AFK check is flawed.' Yeah buddy, you're right, there's a flaw somewhere in that system alright.
