I have been playing on and off since 2005 (big break between 2009-2011 due to work/training), I have always just stuck with BLM and never cared about the other jobs in game. Having come back I found a lot of changes but have now settled in am I am getting along. Just wanted to review what I have done and make sure I am heading in the right direction.

BLM95, SCH60, RDM49, WHM49, SMN37.

Complted Windurst Missions, Zilart, CoP, WotG, ACP, AMK and ASA. Just ToAU (Mission 15) to complete.

Fully merited MP, Int, Staff, Evasion, Enfeebleing, Elemental, Dark, Enmity Decrease, Spell Interuption Rate, Ice Potency, Lightning Potency, Freeze II 3, Burst II 3, Flare II 1, Flood II 1, Tornado II 1, Quake II 1.

All spells except Blizzaja, Thunder V, Comet and Break, I will either farm these my self or wait for the price to drop, current situation with these spells is pathetic

I have killed 3/9 Abyssea Zone Bosses and have Atma of the Beyond. I am aiming to get Ultimate and MM and finish the Zone Bosses.

Equpment:

Weapons: Varuna's Staff +3, All H.Q. Elemental Staves
Sub: Bugard Leather Strap +1
Range: Empty
Ammo: Witchstone
Head: Goetia Petasos +1
Neck: Uggalepih Pendant, Elemental Torque, Dark Torque, Promise Badge
Ear: Moldavite Earring, Moonshade Earring, Sorcerer's Earring
Body: Goetia Coat, Errant Houppelande
Hand: Goetia Gloves
Ring: Snowsoul Ring, Tamas Ring, Sorcerer's Ring
Back: Searing Cape
Waist: Cognition Belt, Penitant's Rope
Leg: Goetia Chausses, Sagacity Lappas
Feet: Goetia Sabbots

I am obviously looking to get my Goetia set to +2 and some more Magian's Staves.

I also have full AF, 3/5 Relic from Dynamis and 1/5 Yigit Gear. I would like to get these all to +1 and get the full Yigit set. I would also like to try and get Morrigan's set but have never done Salvage.

What else should I be looking to upgrade? I know there are new Sub (+3 Int, +1 Conserve MP), Ammo (+4 Int, +3 Conserve MP) and Neck items (+9 MAB, -3 Elemental Accuracy). Is the Twilight Cape worth getting? What about Elemental Obi's? What should I be looking for in hMP and Refresh gear? Any other advice on what I should be aiming for? Thanks in advance.

Why full Yigit? Just for town gear?

A matching Elemental Obi will boost your damage much higher than anything else you can wear in that slot. I think it's well worth the work to get some.

I used Black Cloak for my idle refresh piece until I got my Goetia Coat +1. Other refresh pieces you might want to look into are augmented Wivre Hairpin from Gold Chests in Abyssea Konschtat and augmented Stearc Subligar from the quest "Brygid the Stylist Strikes Back".

Definately working in the right direction, which is nice to see.
Barring the stuff you said you're working on, here are a few things:

1. Waist: Oneiros sash is a nice piece with mab +4 (marginal over what you have already)
2. Neck: Aesir torque (mostly for the -1 inv so you can trash the dark/elemental torque's)
3. Novio obviously if you have the means to obtain it.

If you're just coming back to the game steadily, you could try taking a look at some of the other sets you carry to try and reduce your inventory. Stuff like stoneskin sets and convert sets can now be accomplished without needing as much gear as you did @ lvl 75.

When you get Goetia Sabots +2, be careful that your other sets do not contain equipment that will swap these out when you have manawall active. These provide a 10% bonus to manawall but you lose that bonus if you unequip these.

Enfeebling set. Some people say this "new ffxi" doesnt require it, I say it can only help and it makes the character that much stronger. Plus, you may just actually need it sooner than you think...

A good idle/-pdt set. The -50% PDT cap can be easily attained with minimal hard work these days.
1. Earth/Terra's staff 20%
2. Twilight torque 5%
3. 2x black/darkness earrings 2% each (1% is more common)
4. Tatsumaki Sitagoromo 4% (if you chose that augment hopefully)
5. 2x dark rings 6% each (need to get very lucky, cap amber lights and stick with it)
6. Umbra cape 6% (12% at night)

This will put you at the -50% pdt cap and you can mix/match a couple of the pieces depending on the augments you get on the earrings/rings.

Just a quick story as to where this came in handy for me. Soloing Ironclad Severer in abyssea-miser. for jewels of ardor/wieldance. I went blm/nin and used lion/blinding horn/mm atmas. Nuked thunder only and was able to kill in under 30min (under 20 minutes on occassion with some lucky procs). I lost focus during one particular fight and got hit with a ballistic kick to the face. With manawall up, goetia sabots +2, and my -pdt set, BK did approximately 100 damage to my mp (damage before encumberance took effect); it was laughable! :)

As for a hmp set is pretty basic. alot of stuff on ah now for hmp plus you could shoot for relaxing earring, af body+1 (also good for enfeebling set), selenian cap augment if you have it, oracles gloves just to name a few.

If you want to be BLM numero uno, you can't miss doing a few TotM staves. Ice, Thunder, and Dark MDMG are the front runners these days. The other elements are nice for spamming -jas, but outside of that they fall far shorter in terms of time spent to reward ratio. If BLM is your main and you have time to give, they definitely rule. The -cast time is quite nice for non-nuking purposes btw, my RDM casts Ichi like a boss with 50% Fast Cast and -12% cast time from staff and -10% from that necklace.

To your speficic questions, yes the Twilight Cape is a healthy part of day correlated nuking, as are Obis. Hyorin (ice) is a must, after that the rest are as worth it as you make them, same decision making process as TotM staves basically. hMP sets have fallen out of necessity inside abyssea because of /RDM giving convert and refresh, all the refresh from atmas and gear, and the 5k MP in free meds you carry around. Honestly I haven't played BLM outside in ages, but I imagine BLM's usual role as sleep duty is a breeze with 'vert. You'll have to ask someone else about outside-abyssea BLM nuking though.

I know, my code format is prolly ugly and old.

I found all those things not worth the inventory space, especially inside abysssea ^^;

Also, I found RDM/NIN to be a much easier job to do Severer on, if you have it. The Fast Cast makes getting a nuke off without getting shadows taken a real possibility, and inherits much of BLM's nuke accessories so the nukes are still pretty potent.

With Goetia +2 head and elemental celerity traits, I'm pretty sure my BLM nukes significantly faster now than my RDM does.

Trying to stay away from the "Abyssea-only" types. If you're serious about blm, seperate sets for inside and outside are best. Meaning you really should have SS, enfeebling, dark, hmp sets (at least have it readily available to use).

@Vx: RDM gets 50% Fast Cast, 12% staff. BLM gets 15% Fast Cast (if /RDM, which I'm not sure I would or wouldn't), 25% Celerity, 12% Petasos, 12% staff. So it is a near tie, 62%RDM and 64%BLM/RDM 49%BLM/NIN. I guess my perception of RDM Fast Cast making the difference was placebo, and I was actually impressed by the Stoneskins, Cure IVs, or something else altogether. I'll have to go back at it as BLM, I just went RDM because it was safe and I barely had to pay attention :3

**additional minor Fast Cast gear on BLM not noted, that was just quick and dirty. I don't bring anything with Fast Cast but Loq anyways.

@Jar: I'd build an outside set if it ever came up, the thing is it just hasn't ;p

Is there anything you'd do differently inside and out for hMP, Dark, Enfeebling, etc? Stoneskin set would have some MND over haste, but that's all I can think of.. Yeah, I'd potentially feel the loss of Enfeebling Magic Skill where I decided I'd rather just use random INT/MAcc gear instead of a dedicated, marginally superior enfeeb piece, but that Inventory +5 is just so much nicer than the 10-20 Enfeebling I passed on. Especially since I haven't seen the word Resist to a sleep outside of PLD mobs since forever, and lolBind/Grav these days.
