So I decided to test out comet in abyss today thought I'd let you all know the numbers I got with my current gear/atmas in case anyone is debating on purchasing the scroll or going after the BCNM.

Gear:

Main: Plutos(working on Yama's still)
Sub: Bugard +1
Ammo: Witchstone
Head: Goetia +2
Neck: Saevus pendant
Earrings: novio/hecate's
Body: Goetia +1
Hands: Goetia +1
Legs: Goetia +2
Feet: Goetia +2
Rings: Sorc/Snow
Back: Searing
Waist: Oneiros Sash

Atma: MM/Baying/Beyond

La Theine Gigas's: 4100-4200
Birds: 4200-4220
Fly's 4100ish

I only played around with it for about an hour before going to do trials, but it is certainly of no use in abyss compared to ice with no atma adding as much power as beyond does for ice spells, I will be nuking some mobs outside of abyss later, but so far it seems to deal good dmg for its mp cost

Unless you have tons of gil to spend I wouldn't pay more then 500kish for this spell since it is so marginally useful at this time.

Isn't the whole point of this spell that it gets more powerful the more you use it?

If you are also trying to build for Comet, using Cosmos would pump up the dmg. But since we rarely go into Aby with the mindset of "I'm here to do good Comet dmg" I can't see using Cosmos as a viable solution to increasing the dmg. This would only gimp our other spells.

Contrary to popular belief comet is NOT aligned with dark magic skill. Despite it being of the darkness element this spell is still aligned to the elemental school of magic. Proof below

Screenshot

Dark magic skill has NO EFFECT at all on damage. The only stats that affect comet damage are Int and MaB.

I'm surprised to hear that this was a popular belief. I had always assumed that it would use elemental magic.

Up until today the groups I had been partied with thought differently and originally BGwiki even stated that it was dark magic (although I see it was modified two days ago now). The reasoning was that the Holy/banish line of spells are light elemental magic nukes based off divine magic, so people thought the counterpart darkness elemental magic nuke would be based off dark magic skill. It made sense because darkness and light are unique from the six primary elements and light is to divine as darkness is to dark magic, plus up to this point the only "elemental magic" spells were nukes tied to the primary elements as well as the elemental debuffs. It made sense so people originally associated comet with dark magic skill. I didn't notice the info was already updated on bgwiki but the history page shows it was only updated two days ago. So I apologize for the late info. My mistake.

I figured it was elemental as well. And people using that argument doesn't always work. Luminohelix and Noctohelix are both elemental magic as well.

Impact is dark-element, elemental skill magic as well, and has been around a while.

You guys are making me want to go out and get my spells!! Smiley: cry

Haven't had a chance to put together any HKCNM runs yet because we have been working on people's empys and whatnot and I have tried 1 WoE so far and we failed to kill the boss before we timed out.

Congratulations to those of you that have gotten them to drop (or bought them on AH)!

I got comet from antlion hkcnm the first or second night after update, which resulted in in me taking blm to 95 right away. When I hit 94 I went and put on mm ultimate cosmos and had a best of like 6200 avg around like 5800. Yesterday I was farming fire clusters in sky, aero 5 on day + weather did 2200(no thunder 5 yet) while comet did 2300, cumulative cast did 2800.

Gear is:

HQ/bug+1/witchstone
AF3+1/aesir/hecate/novio
Morri/af3+1/sorc/6int diamond
Searing/cognition/af3+2/af3+2

You'd be surprised how many people still confuse dark-based magic with Dark Magic.

I still encounter people who think Dispel works off Dark Magic.

Darkness-element Dark Magic can be used to magic burst on Darkness skillchains, which consist of 4 elements including dark.

SE really should have gotten more creative with "dark" and "light". At least they started using "shadow" for a few dark-related things.

Also, I just broke the word "darkness" for myself, and it means nothing now.

I just thought that after all this time, BLMs would be used to Darkness element not necessarily equating to Dark Magic, due to Sleep.

Or, more notoriously: "Stun isn't a dark magic spell because it's thunder-based!"

I remember those arguments. It was like a **** Abbot and Costello sketch trying to get people to agree on the nomenclature.
