BLM Gold Pyxis / Amber LIghtsFollow

I am interested in starting to farm gold pyxis and have two classes available to me, thf and blm.

I attempted doing it on my thf and capping out pearl/amber was fine, however I was not able to get the TEs I needed to keep going.

Is it difficult to build amber/pearl on blm? I need to max out my staff still, but if I did would that be the best way to go about it?

It seems finishing off meanders to build pearl, and then empherels to get amber would be way to go.

Anyone have any experience doing this as blm? Just looking for general information/etc.

Thanks!

Elemental WS are pretty shoddy on blm, not to mention you don't have very many WS at all unless you /whm. I tend to use Cataclysm, which is the 290 WS and is a darkness based AoE. It's rather nice. However, I normally do not farm amber lights as blm. I'm there for the Azure kills. Depending on your staff skill though, I wouldn't suggest blm because you will be doing a lot of swoosh swoosh right over the mobs head.

I could see ja/ga nuking down a bunch of mobs and then cataclysm for the kill shot working if you do have the skills.

I think I may go try that now! well after work anyway

I guess from what I been gathering is I have two choices.

Build azure on thf with ninjutsu, which is painful.

or

Build amber and pearl on BLM with staff, which may or may not be worse :O

Or go on thf and bring a blm, rdm, or sch friend Smiley: wink

The questions is what are you farming gold for? KI, gear, or items? Its a bit easier to tell you how after that.

For your staff skill ups the next question is do you have apoc and cloak and dagger?

I can give you a better answer after I know those things Oo.

Sorry to answer a question with a question lol.

Ideally I want to do it for gil, but the diamond/dark/etc items that are really nice are a plus.

I have cloak and shadow, need 2 more caturae / shinryu kill for apoc.

If you have alpha and omega then you can you use that for double attack and use cloak and dagger for acc to skill up staff. MM I would think would still be needed. I would definatly reccomend getting apoc though before you do this the triple attack is that nice. .....

You could do that in a party after you capped azure for the merit points you may still need. :P

One "easy way" to get around the azure issue on thief is to join a party and get capped on lights. Find a replacement and have them join and you can continue on farming in that zone.

Or you could ask a blm friend to come do a couple of azure kills for. I would prefer to farm on thief for chest vs blm. Much easier to get capped azure than it is gold which take a little more time.

To answer another question, I do have RDM90. It use to be my main at 75, but I kinda...hate it now :)

If I cap on lights on my thief and do farm, will the probably capped out ruby (seems to always happen), make a huge difference?

Well you do make a good point there lol. Yeah the ruby will affect you. Seems your best solution is get a blm to give you azure :/

Can BLU establish azure pretty well also?

BLU is one of the best at Azure/Pearl/Amber lights. They can do all 3 solo, effectively and quickly. BLU self skillchain is considered an azure kill, as well as their magic spells. They have savage blade which just rocks for amber kills and keeping them alive w/o having to p. embrace often. And pearl is just melee, which they do well because they can kill quickly.

It's possible to get pearl on BLM nuking something to 1-2%, then killing with DoTs while it's bound or stoned. This is generally more trouble than it's worth.

Amber is much easier, at least once you have a good supply of restore chests... and have Vidohunir unlocked. Vidohunir in randomish nuking gear will do 1500+ dmg (dark based), so it's really pretty trivial to drop a medium sized nuke on a mob, pop the restore chest, and finish the mob with the TP you get. You just have to be careful not to weapon-swap away your TP.

I don't suggest meleeing for TP though, or trying to -ga+Cata, since going /whm sucks and you still only get one amber out of it.

Another possible strategy is to -ga down a large number of mobs before you have much azure and hope to get lucky on lights from a couple red chests, and go from there.

Or can sub /rdm (with capped skill and 5 dagger merits I think, that probably have from THF), and AE with nuking atmas.

The only problem with that is that you need to equip the dagger before opening the recover chest.

Wow! I am excited to get this now! I have my base weapon and am on floor 95 of Nyzul. I started my whm club first, since it dropped on our first run. I should be pretty close to finishing it, since I have been using it to help people break other WS weapons since we were on floor 10. So definitely going for this next!!

Ok having done this a few times in Konschtat for my uber dark rings, here is my light building method for you (using Konschtat for this example)

I build Amber first to the level I need. If i'm looking for superior augmented items, I will cap amber.

Atma: Cosmos, Sea Daughter, Beyond

Mob: Treants

I recommend you use your Aquilo's/Varuna's staff and put all other staves and grips away so you don't accidentally swap them in and lose TP.

Put up Ice Spikes, Stoneskin (and Refresh). Use Blizzard V on a nearby Treant. By the time you have run to them you should have gotten 100+ TP simply through SD's regain. Once the mob approaches you, whip out your staff and Vidohunir. Should take off 25% or so and finish off the mob. Gives 16 amber.

Rinse and repeat 15 more times to cap amber. Use temps and convert to restore MP (I also will sleep the Ephemeral Limule that roams through and Aspir I/II that)

After Amber, I move to Azure, getting roughly 160 Azure for TE, ISL, and multi temps

Atma: Beyond, Ultimate, MM

Mob: Imps

You know what to do. Kill 10 imps for 160 Azure.

Next is pearl lights.

Atma: Same for azure

Mob: T1 VNM.

Pop and Blizz V. If you have strong gear you should take it down to 3% or so. Melee it down with the staff of your choice for 10-15 pearl light.

I typically go for 120-150 pearl.

If you're quick and the VNMs are close together all of these lights should take about an hour to do solo. Obviously if you have a friend or two they can do VNMs while you build amber and azure.

Hope this helps. I'm still waiting for a refresh hairpin, but I do have a -5% PDT/-6% MDT and a -5% MDT/-6% PDT ring from farming like this.

Wait treants give 16 amber? I thought only the roaming avatars give enhanced amber light.

Not to mention the imps giving 16 Azure. I think the Tonberries also give 16 Azure.

This guy helpfully mapped out all the mobs and their various light values. There's really no rhyme or reason to a lot of it, but it's handy to know which mobs to go after.

As high as possible, really. With all 3 Destiny abyssites you should see a pretty high rate of large chests at around 128 Amber, but higher won't hurt.

With capped amber I was getting a lot of aug items which I did not want. I'm not sure if amber amount has any effect on what comes in the large boxes aside from better aug and temp items. I tried this the other night and in about 4hrs I saw maybe 10-12 KI.

From my experience what is in the big gold boxes have about equal chances to appear - temps, items, augmented items, and KI. Of course, big gold boxes are required for KI, but every good augmented item i've seen has come from big gold boxes only. If you happen to need the KI this is not so bad. Tahrongi comes to mind with this (as does La Theine if you're looking for a TH sash or fast cast neck). In Vunkerl snagging a Bukhis or Sedna pop while trying for INT7 rings is nice as well.
