As I am just returning to FFXI it seems that almost all of my gear that was once considered good, is now crap. One item I have that seems to still sell for quite a bit is the Witch Sash. It appears that there are many other options for waist, that compete strongly with the Witch Sash and are much less expensive. Can anyone elaborate on the usefulness of the sash? Should I sell it now while I can still get a decent amount for it?

Thanks for any feedback on this.

I ended up selling mine and replacing it with the extremely inexpensive Cognition belt.

The reason I used to have it was because at the time, the only belt that gave more than INT+5 was the Black Mage relic belt. And this of course had the added boon of having magic accuracy on it (which at the time, no other belt had macc on it) and the boost to mcrit was just strictly a bonus.

But with Abyssea, atmas, and the Empryean armor set, more focus on INT and MAB is needed versus Magic Accuracy. There are so many more ways to increase your magic accuracy now than before. And most of it doesn't have anything to do with gear - especially since the Empryean +1 set alone gives +17 magic accuracy (w/ the neck) and +17 elemental magic skill (w/ the back). There's little point once obtaining this set to have 2 extra macc where on 99% of the mobs you fight you will have capped accuracy anyway. Mind as well put 2 extra points on INT and help your damage.

yes sell it now. It's still a high price for some reason (no idea why) and its easily replaced.

This belt was outdated before abyssea came out. Sorcerer's Belt was always the better choice. However, the more gear that gets added that increases damage on m.crits (goetia hands +2, genesis locket) will slowly close the gap between witch sash and cognition belt.

Personally, I think it still has a use if one is building for a m. crit set, which is something I want to try for sometime. Though, that's mostly because I'm a silly person who happens to have capped and partially merited scythe from levelling drk as my first main, so I want to try out a m. crit build around a maleficus, see what can be done to get less crazy spike damage on blm and better DoT, with scythe melee, occult accumen, and most likely using more frequent, lower-tier nukes. It's just a train of thought I'd like to explore, personally.
